  • Geo discusses reports that West Ham United have made a contract offer to former Real Madrid and Wolves manager, Julen Lopetegui to replace David Moyes in the summer.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, West Ham have made an offer to Milan target Julen Lopetegui who has already met the Rossoneri owner Gerry Cardinale.
Milan will split from Stefano Pioli at the end of the season and Lopetegui appears to be the leading candidate to replace the Parma-born tactician in 2024-25.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the ex-Real Madrid tactician and his representatives have already met Milan owner Cardinale. The Rossoneri haven’t yet made an official offer for the Spanish coach but seem willing to put on the table a €4m-a-year salary for two years, plus an option for a third season.
However, the pink paper claims Lopetegui has already received a lucrative offer from Premier League side West Ham and will decide on his next club by the start of May.
Paulo Fonseca, a former Roma coach, is also on the Rossoneri agenda and Cardinale will discuss the next steps and other potential candidates with directors Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada, and advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic today.

Lopetegui would be one of the few correct answers to the 'careful what you wish for' trope. I'm not enthused. His being the manager of Real Madrid gets mentioned as if it should be a merit badge. There can't be many Madrid managers that had losing records and got fired after 14 games. That's his CV at Real Madrid, and it included a 5-1 thumping to their rivals. And at Wolves he had very decent players and their style under him was every bit as dour as Moyes's. No thank you.

Sullivan is cheap: Lopetegui is free; Amorim has a 12.8 mill release clause. Realistically, I find it hard to believe that we have a chance with Amorim. We have a history of taking imperfect - mercurial - players, why not managers. I hope not, but it would be very west ham...

    We have 3 problems now.
Number one is obviously Sullivan. If he remains involved it won’t work.
Two, as it seems almost certain that Moyes is leaving we will be linked to every manager under the sun.
And 3, virtually anyone is going to be a disappointment after Amorim. If Amorim was some sort of publicity stunt it has backfired spectacularly, it’s set expectations sky high and I don’t think the club can now meet them expectations. Most of the managers we have been linked to are kinda meh already but once you start to compare the likes of Fonseca, Potter and Cooper to Amorim they go from meh to 💩.

I got stupidly excited about the Amorim story as I think he really would take us to the next level. If he turns us down because he thinks he can do better there's nothing we can do about it. But if as I suspect the thing collapsed because Sullivan doesn't pay compensation for managers and was just paying lip service to keep Tim sweet, then things aren't changing at all. Is Tim just going to be Sully's beard? What's the point of bringing in class players and then skimping on the manager. The manager should be our most important signing. What was the famous World War 1 saying.... heroes led by donkeys. I don't want Lopetegui just because he isn't Moyes and he's unemployed (that should be a clue to Sully in itself)..

Amorin was so excited when he met steidtman. However, and unfortunately, he had to meet Sullivan. Let's face it, coming face to face with sullivan and listening to his ideas would leave any of us deflated. I couldn't see Sullivan being a good front man for west ham and lesser still brady. I would be on that private plane like a shot making all sorts of excuses. That's where I get concerned. A decent manager meeting Sullivan and thinking, no thank you. It will be an interesting appointment but one I have been crying out for for 2.5 years. One advice for Sullivan....please leave the claret silk jacket off when meeting potential managers.

  • @billclarke7893
    @billclarke7893 Před 16 dny

Looking at modern corporate companies, you have people running the business who have to fulfil the role, or who are liable to be dismissed and replaced. These companies no longer have the person who founded them, who decided which path to follow, who is able to make a mistake without the threat of becoming unemployed. Yes the funding can be withdrawn, but in that scenario the whole company fails.
What is the difference to a football club? The owner’s brought themselves into the club, and yes they are now steering the path, but the reason they were able to buy the club is they are successful elsewhere and still have responsibilities elsewhere, and they need people who essentially are running that business but can be replaced.
This is the setup of successful football clubs, people who specialise in a particular role, Dan Ashworth for example, a PA teacher who helped the England FA create a new structure, then changes Brighton, and now head hunted by the biggest clubs.
This is why Steidten should be allowed to decide who will coach the squad he has put together without interference from Sullivan or a Moyse/Lopetegui style ‘manager’.

    Hola,

Would take Silva or Potter over Lopetegui. Heres hoping we still manage to entice Amorim. Going to be a nerve wracking month or so.

He’s the 3rd or 4th favourite but bookies odds mean zilch.
Xabi Alonso was odds on to be the next Liverpool manager

@HammersChat apologies wasn't t there at the time I checked. I think I'd rather have Potter using the Brighton model

Sullivan hiring mid table managers with a mid table budget. Sullivan is the problem moving forward, hes always been the problem. Hes 2bob,never was going to make us a top side, because hes never ever had the money to do it. All hes ever done is take money.
Must sell up and go. Like moyes hes a cancer on this great club.

The list seems to be this guy, Fonseca, tuchel, potter and Silva

Lopetegi will be a huge flop. Worse than moyes. He basically is not class and really will be useless for us.
DO NOT SIGN LOPETUGU PLEASE. rather have a washed up mourinho or tuchel instead. Ideally amorim would have suited our club to a T. no joke

Was not impressed by his Wolves tenure. Big mistake. Why not go for a British manager. Graeme Potter has my vote. He would be a good fit.

Lopetegui is crap, with outdated football knowledge and nasty personality, good luck!
