The gene that predisposes to the development of retinoblastoma is RB1 and is located on chromosome 13 in region q14.2
Genetic predisposition is explained with the double blow theory, where two mutations necessary for the development of the disease are established, that is, by loss of heterozygocity, and that is why, the inherited rb can occur in both eyes, and the predisposed, where there is only one affected allele, is mostly unilateral.
