because the difference between the Italo's 10 and Jordy barrel can't be only 0.5. If Jordy gets barrel first and recive a 9.5, Italo's best wave woud get 11. But 11 does not exist. Perfection means 10.
Guy Thompson, you know that you are wrong. Did you see Jesse Mendes and JJ Florence ? Jesse Mendes last wave was 7.17. If Jesse got a 7.17 with only one move, that was not perfectly done , why Italo's wave shouldn't be a 10 point ?

Western King high backside 360, good turns and a shovit at the end, for the small conditions, you cant ask for more...
The judges reward goofy foots way toooo much for what is essentially the same maneuver repeated over and over with little to no variance, its also the easiest move to make in surfing, getting vertical on you back hand is so much easier then doing it on you front

why its a easy trick to do and he did the samething like 5 times, thats not exciting surfing, and now you can get 8 by simply doing the same trick over and over with little to no risk

Italo was overscored this entire competition. He should have been out in the second round. Then the third round. Then it just kept going. No doubt he won the final. I don't question that. But he shouldn't have been in the final.

However, anyone who differentiates surfing based on an air or not -- thus ignoring turns, power, uniqueness, and smoothness between transitions -- is likely a kook.
