- Stockard Channing wins the 2002 Emmy Award for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Abigail Bartlet in The West Wing.
In that era the Emmy nominees for supporting actor and actress always had several from The West Wing. Some years there were four West Wing actors nominated out of 6 for supporting actor. It was just a great, great show. Janel Maloney could have easily won it too. All the writing and acting on that show was fantastic year after year.
Everyone on The West Wing deserved an EMMY. The best ensemble cast ine history of TV.Dule Hill, Emily Proctor etc. The list goes on and on.
Sometimes underrated, Stockard Chaning is one of the best actress in Hollywood. For main or support roles, she is unique on screen and my favorite in Grease with her hills dancing Sha na na's Houng Dog. Great girl!

damn near everyone in the main cast of that show, won an Emmy or SAG or some other award....I mean, good God. And its one of 3 of my favorite shows, that includes Six Feet Under and Sons of Anarchy. Stockard was NAILS on this show
Stockard Channing had great acting on The West Wing in season 3.
Interestingly it was only decided during the last weeks rehearsal to have a First Lady. So who to choose? Well, so the story goes, it was suggested “we need someone like Stockard Channing”, next scene well why not ask her? So they did and the rest is history. She and Martin Sheen met for the first time about an hour before their first scene.
I think that her costars were surprised because she is only in a few episodes per season. However the episode that she submitted was fantastic and deserved the Emmy, in my opinion.

Dang they don't look excited at all. She was magnificent in season 2 and 3 tho....her storylines were some of my favs in both seasons.
