    A quick note on One With Nothing: It did see some sideboard play in Mirrodin/Kamigawa Standard as a counter for exactly Owling Mine, a deck that used Howling Mine to keep your opponent's hand at around 7 cards and Ebony Owl Netsuke to try and burn the opponent out. Sorrow's Path
    It's a land that allows you to swap what creatures your opponents control are attacking your creatures at the expensive of life and I believe it hurts your creatures as well.
    Example: your opponent attacks with a 2/2 wolf and a 1/1 spirit. You block the wolf with a 2/2 zombies and you block the spirit with a 0/1 plant. You can then tap this land (that doesn't tap for mana) and make your plant block the wolf and your zombie block the spirit, take two damage, and your creatures take damage from the land

    • @osterpenpen9379
      @osterpenpen9379 Před 2 lety +4

      Worse, it does 2 damage to you and all your creatures whenever it gets tapped for any reason, not just its ability. So even if you play Tomb of Yawgmoth and tap for a {B}... 2 damage to you and your entire board.

    • @Fyrefrye
      @Fyrefrye Před 2 lety +3

      @@osterpenpen9379 Even worse, it only lets you target your opponent's BLOCKING creatures, so you're likely killing several of your attacking creatures mid-combat. The only potential use I can see is in multiplayer where you're messing with combat between two other players and you have a board of creatures that either can take the damage, benefit from the damage (stuffy doll or the enrage dinos), or you're playing control and don't have any creatures. I think I heard that one with nothing was played in sideboards in standard against decks built around ebony owl netsuke and howling mine
    While a vanilla 2 mana 2/2 isn't great, it also isn't something that was given to red at common until shadows over innistrad, a very long time after legions (not to say the card is in any way good)
    Ixadron is an example of a card that flips things face down and it is actually pretty good in commander since face down creatures can't be turned face up unless they have morph or were manifested.
    Mindless null is a pretty bad card. 3 mana 2/2 that can't block unless you control a vampire
    It's also pretty interesting to look at cards that were once thought to be terrible but have since become format defining (dark depths, lion's eye diamond, death's shadow)

      Or in any type of deck where you're actively trying to sacrifice your own permanents. Get 2 Mayhem Devil's on the battlefield, later play and sacrifice a Goblin Firebug to Deadly Dispute and sacrifice one of the tapped lands. You would now get to draw 2, make a treasure token, and deal 4 damage divided as you choose to any target. Combine that with the fact that you're most likely at turn 5 by this point and have generated some treasure tokens, you can cast another spell dealing an additional 2 damage divided as you choose to any target per treasure sacrificed. All that for 4 mana and a land sounds like a solid combo to me.

    A fun thing to do when looking for bad cards is to go on gatherer (the official card database from wizards) and do a search filtering by lowest community rating. Once you get past a few of the newer cards with only 1-2 votes you start finding the REALLY bad ones. Razor boomerang is there (good job on getting that one).
    But then there's Aven Trooper. 4 mana (3+w) 1/1 flying bird soldier with "2+w, discard a card: this creature gets +1/+2 until end of turn." The art even looks half-finished.
    Another fun one is Sorrow's Path. A land with (heavily paraphrased) "tap: target two of your opponent's blocking creatures. swap the creatures they're blocking if all new blocks are legal. When this land is tapped, it deals 2 damage to you and all your creatures."

    I feel like Break Open has a niche use as potentially getting your opponent to waste a Willbender or Voidmage Apprentice, or even Bane of the Living/Skinthinner.
    I don't think Razor Boomerang is THAT bad. Prolly not constructed playable, but it's basically "5: Deal 1 damage to any target," basically a slightly pricier Rod of Ruin that can theoretically be activated multiple times.
    The worst card is Great Wall. It's not a creature, so it can't even theoretically kill an opponent, and its sole function is to negate an ability only used by like 6 cards of the tens of thousands printed in the game's 30 year lifespan.

    • @DoABarrelRol1l

      I kind of want to see Razor Boomerang in some 'artifiacts etb matter' deck or a silly storm combo. Make it cost less to cast, less to equip (I'm sure there are plenty that make it cost 0) and either a creature that untaps itself when doing the above or something like Stonybrook Schoolmaster + haste or a wide board of 1/1s could be a cool way to throw the 'rang 3-5 times in a turn then hit them with a Grapshot etc. I do think they could have made it 2 damange, cost 1 less, equip for 1 less, for give the equipped created +2/0 (you can always stab someone with it), or a combination of all 4 to be a quaint fun card.
      You say Great Wall is bad but I'm destined to make a legacy Plainswalker deck if only for the pun and confused faces of my opponents when they thought I was playing Super Friends.

      Break Open still isn't useful at even that cause it's not like you have a way of knowing what an opponent's morph cards are until they've been turned face up anyways, so you'd just have to get lucky in targeting the counter spell morphs, which in that case running any kind of cheap removal like a shock would just be 100% better as it actually has numerous other uses on top of just that one single thing Break Open may or may not be able to do in that specific scenario.

I remember watching a game in standard where this agro beatdown deck become a control deck post sidboard using Mastery of the Unseen to Manifest lands and sorceries off the top of his library so he can have enough creatures to finish off his opponent after countering most of his early game plays. so sometimes like if it was an instant or sorcery that got manifested turning it face up will just make the creature evaporate (because instants and sorceries are not permanents) but in 99% of cases if the creature has an ability other than an enter the battlefield ability flipping it face up makes that ability live again

If you have a way to recast the Chimney Imp (or otherwise get it back on the field), or if you have more than one in play, you can effectively make it so your opponent never gets to play any more cards.

    JuJu bubble is a good late game card. Lets say you can use 11 mana mid to late game, play this card and immediately gain 5 life, next turn another 5 life. A few good combos too with "whenever you gain life...." effects. Now if you have this card in a mana producing deck mid to late game you might get a 10 life boost for two turns.

  • @ryangainey94

    Rakalite is my pick. You pay 6 mana for an artifact that says pay 2 mana: Prevent 1 damage to any target, and then has the additional clause that at the end of any turn in which Rakalite's ability was activated, you return it to your hand. So a turn 6 or 7 you play this card and it does nothing... A turn 8 or 9 you play this and can pay 8 mana to stop 1 point of damage... Then it returns to your hand so you have to do it AGAIN. The only way you really make this card useful is by having infinite mana, but if you have infinite mana, there are so many BETTER things you can be doing with it, and every time you recast it is another opportunity for your opponent to use countermagic on it if they draw it so it's not even consistent damage prevention

    Razor Boomerang sounds like Yūgioh’s Final Countdown but a thousand times worse.
    Final Countdown basically requires you to pay 1/4th your starting life, and if you can stall for 20 turns you win. It’s a Normal Spell, basically a sorcery, and incredibly difficult to tutor without incredibly high cost cards like Left Arm Offering - which requires exiling you whole hand - or Ancient Gear Drill - Requiring a discard and keeps you from using Final Countdown for a turn along with only using Ancient Gear creatures, which are all based on high attack and trample effects.

    Delif's Cube may not technically be worse than any of these since it doesn't actively hurt you to play it. But it's both terrible and convoluted. It's an artifact that costs 1 to play. Then if you attack with a creature and that creature isn't blocked you can pay two colorless and tap the cube to have that creature do no damage in combat. Then you can put a counter on the cube. Once it has a counter you can pay two mana and remove the counter to regenerate target creature.
    So for 5 mana and not doing damage with a unblocked creature you can regenerate something once. Got to love fallen empires.

    Break Open is probably the worst card ever printed. At best, it's useless if your opponent doesn't use face down cards. At worst, you spend resources to speed up your opponent's tempo and help them. It literally never does anything good for you. I think there is only one creature that, when it is turned face up, can change the target of a spell or counter it unless someone pays extra. and if I'm not mistaken, the decks that use that can return it to hand or place it face down again. Still no gain.
    With regards to the 2/2 goblin mentioned, the goblin decks that would have run that would not care in the slightest if they lost a land on their turn, they probably have one or two to spare and it wouldn't really slow down their tempo enough. In that example, creature type matters. But then that was a long time ago, I don't remember how good those goblin decks were at the time and there was probably a better two drop.
