    Rob studied Opera in college and has a bachelor’s degree in music
    Austin has a degree in Musical theatre
    At the time of this he hasn’t sung opera in 15 years. Austin wanted to show off opera Rob and talked Rob into doing this so glad he did 😊

    This was all Austin's idea, and he had to convince Rob to do it. Rob was classical training in college. But he hadn't sung it in over 15 years. Austin was a musical theater major, but he also had some classical training. I truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

    Yes, Rob studied opera in college but that was years ago. Austin always wanted Rob to do this but Rob wouldn’t unless Austin did it with him. Austin studied musical theater and is from Georgia by the way. Austin was very respectable and Rob was wonderful. Great reaction YB! 😍😃🥰

    Yes, the opera singers that reacted to this one said that Rob's voice was more of the classical opera style due to his training, whereas Austin's is more contemporary or lyrical opera. Austin is from Georgia, and when he first joined Home Free, Tim (who is from Texas) would have to "translate" what he said to the others who were all from Minnesota and had difficulty with Austin's strong southern accent.

    Rob studied opera in college. Austin majored in musical theater but probably had a required class in opera. Peter Barber did do a reaction and analysis of this (and kept it honest) and surmised that Rob could definitely have had a career in opera.

    • @patriciamcl54
      @patriciamcl54 Před 7 měsíci

      Rob was perfectly well aware that he could have tried for opera, but he was also aware that 1) you start at the bottom, in the chorus, which is very badly paid; and 2) that keeping his voice ready for auditions at a moment's notice meant hard daily practice,, which he didn't feel prepared to do. People always talk as if Peter Barber were the ultimate expert, but in fact he seems to know little of what is and isn't in demand on international stages. Rob's style of voice is less in demand as Verdi, Puccini and Rossini have become less fashionable. There has always been a demand for lyric tenors, particularly those with the slightly "metallic" edge that you can hear in Austin's voice, which enables a higher voice to cut through an orchestra or chorus. His sort of voice is also more versatile.

      @@patriciamcl54 I’m sure Rob knew what he was doing and I didn’t suggest that he didn’t. Peter Barber and Elizabeth at the Charismatic Voice are opera professionals and should know what they are talking about since their careers depend/depended on it. Personally, I strongly dislike opera so I depend on these trained professionals to educate me on what is happening during an operatic performance. I really don’t care what voices are in demand or what it takes to be an opera singer-I appreciate listening to music I like and supporting the musicians. Please keep your negativity to yourself or, at least don’t connect it to me.

    Rob studied to be an opera singer. Pretty obvious, eh? 😊Opera reactors say he would’ve had a great career in it. He is so diverse in his singing skills! Gospel, rapping Rob!
    This is from Puccini’s “ Turandot”. Man could write a tune.
    Peter Barber said Rob has “ chiaroscuro “ which adds weight and darkness to the tone. Austin is all brightness, nasal and forward. Perfect for musicals and country.

    I have never been a big fan of opera except maybe some Andrea Bocelli & a few others. But I have always appreciated the talent it takes to sing opera. I was pretty impressed with Rob & Austin's version of Nessun Dorma. I have heard this famous song done by Pavarotti. I think I was more surprised by Rob's range & powerful delivery than even Austin's. Pretty good for a couple of country boys! Nice to see them dressed up in suits & looking classy. Rob had some opera training about 15 years ago & Austin has been trained in musical theatre.

    Rob has maintained his diaphragm- it's stronger so he has the juice to sound richer and complete those long drawn out phrases with creativity and emotion. Austin is working it but his education is in musical theatre, and he did a good job but there is just no comparison. I love them both in Home Free, but Rob is magical in this. I've listened to it many times and love it always makes me happy.

    • @patriciamcl54
      @patriciamcl54 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Both these men have fine technique. It would be impossible for either of them to do the work they do every night without excellent diaphragm control. If you check out Austin's version of When a Man Loves a Woman or Bring Him Home, or hear him singing live, you'll see that he has impeccable vocal and breath control. In fact where Austin studied, the music theatre students had exactly the same classical training as the opera kids - someone recently posted who knows the school well - and all students had to prepare and perform in auditions for the college shows, both opera and musicals. If Austin had had exactly the same training as Rob, their voices would still have been different - Nothing to do with the diaphragm or the training,, but with the equipment they were born with. Check out Jen Glatzhofer's reaction to this to hear a real expert describe the difference in their vocal folds.

    • @tml9174
      @tml9174 Před 7 měsíci

      I don't pretend to be an expert, Patricia and I appreciate the info for Jen Glatzhofer's reaction- I will definitely take a listen to what she has to impart. I am a physical therapist that specializes in respiratory issues, so the strength of a diaphragm and how much air and what you can do with it is what I notice. No shade on Austin, I love his work, admire his voice and am aware that he was the one that proudly wanted to show off his friend's pipes. A generous spirit. I have listened to everything that HF has put out(individually and the group) and love it all.@@patriciamcl54

I was as well at how good he sounded and they sounded together I mentioned that in comments on another reaction video and was attacked by a couple of other Home Fries who said they were never surprised at anything they do, and I know they are very versatile and do different things, but that's what good entertainment is supposed to be. We are supposed to be surprised, awed, whatever you want to call it. It's why we keep coming back to see what they will do next, it's not boring, it's entertainment at its finest. I love Home Free.

    Rob's father always wanted him to sing opera professionally. But Rob wanted to go down a different path of singing. Because the training is so hard and intense he didn't know if he could stay with it I guess. So I bet his father is so proud of him doing this. Austin never really sang opera on a professional level like Rob has. But he does a great job with this one. They both have such beautiful voices and such a pleasure to the ear. 😊

    This is wow, wow and again wow. It's extremely good. Fantastic. Both are doing great. I still recognize Austin's powerful voice (Musical training)But Rob, I'm perplexed.(opera training 15 years ago) His voice is just magical, so rich, so warm. Chills just ran through my body. Rob sounds like a (good) opera singer, and not like Rob from Home Free where he is also so great. For me he will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers.
    It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers . But here it is. This is perfection. Even if you don't like opera, this must touch you, you must like this.😉
    Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..

    I agree that I would not have recognized Rob if I was just listening to this. Austin's voice is so distinctive I think I would have, plus he wasn't singing in a pure operatic style (although still amazing) so he sounded more like himself. I don't know if you noticed, but Austin did not have his usual Southern twang. When he was in college he worked very hard to control it. When he met up with Home Free and they decided to focus on country, the other guys asked him to bring it back. Now it's like a dimmer switch. He can turn it way up (as in HF's Delta Dawn or totally off like here or in his solo version of Bring Him Home. As far ass their backgrounds, Austin is from Georgia, Tim is from Texas and Chance is from Alabama. Adam and Rob are from Minnesota.

    I've seen a couple of opera singers react to this, one of them very happy over it, another one.... not so much.
    The overall consensus is, it's a wonderful and fun try. Rob gave a very good showing. Austin gets the volume out there but he's still singing from the upper chest, not the diaphragm, so not opera technique at all. (Opera, of course, was invented before microphones so the object is to sing louder than the orchestra.) Opera snobs are overly concerned with pronunciations and Rob is nearly spot on and Austin is acceptably close. It's all in the shape of the jaw.

    This was lovely! Loved your reaction.♥️ It made me REALLY want to see your reaction to Dan Vasc’s “Nessun Dorma.” I like listening to Dan even more than Pavarotti. (There’s just something about his voice that I prefer…I can’t help it!)
    Dan’s father was Italian, and the song is very special to him. They used to listen to it and others (like “Time to Say Goodbye”) together. 6 years ago his father passed away from cancer, which is right around the time Dan released this song on CZcams. I think I can see tears in his eyes at the end of the song…but the emotion doesn’t make his throat close! (I can’t do that.) Another of Dan’s from the same time frame where you can see the very real emotion and tears: “An American Trilogy” originally sung by Elvis. Oh, and “Son of Pain” shows his tears too, now that I think of it. Enjoy!

    The thing that amazed me is not the voice of ROB. I have heard how amazing his voice is from the beginning. Of what he holds back and the little ways he keeps the timing in the group going. It is very clear why the other members of the group consider him the best singer.
    What amazed me is that so many reactors never seemed to have noticed it in the songs that they had previously heard and are shocked at his full on operatic voice.

And overall he said Rob was very good and could have had success if he'd chosen to go that route. And his critique of Austin was basically the difference in his vocal training in music theater. He didn't say it was bad, just not operatic vocal training. Maggie Renee and the Charismatic Voice said pretty much the same thing! In any case, the guys did awesome as far as I'm concerned. ❤

    Strange how you think a regional accent is "worse" than any other. In fact Austin can switch at will from his native Georgia accent to a neutral accent. You also have the common misconception of opera, which unfortunately is also peddled by Peter Barber. There is no longer on the opera stage a single sort of "opera voice". Austin is a lyric tenor with a rare "spinto" or incisiveness, which is greatly in demand on the opera stage. That vital edge, which can cut through an orchestra or chorus, is probably what Austin's teachers heard when they wanted him to switch to opera. William the Bangkok voice coach, who has training and experience in opera, explains that Austin is a lot more employable as a lyric tenor. Rob's voice is lovely but the heavy Italianate style is less in demand as the Italian operas for which the style was developed are not so fashionable these days.
    Btw the difference in Rob and Austin's voices is nothing to do with how wide open their voices are! (Actually there are points where Rob does not open as wide as he should). The difference is purely physical, in the folds in the throat. See Jen Glatzhofer's reaction to this for a full explanation. The difference between Rob's ordinary voice and the voice he produces here is purely the position of the larynx. You can also hear this in action in his solos in the Sea Shanty Medley

    Peter Barber has reacted to this. He seems pretty conservative and was more critical of Austln's Theatrical Crossover style , I don't believe he is a fan of that trend (which is more popular in Europe).
    Maggie Renee is less conservative and seemed nuch more accepting and less critical.
    I think both were disappointed that Rob was forced to take another path due to financial considerations and would have liked to see him make a career of it (anyone who can sound this good after 15 years without training obviously has talent). The fact is the finances are very daunting for those choosing to pursue Opra.
    I don't disagree with anything Peter Barber said from his perspective. I am however more of the Maggie Renee school that Opra needs to be more accepting of alternative styles if it is to survive. Surely a way to plot a moderate path were Opra can survive and prosper yet remain Opra can be found.

    ...THESE TWO *SINGERS ..... A Mid TENOR spectacular - Rob ..... his band-mate, Austin .... A Very High Tenor ...... ARE NOT COUNTRY ...... Rob is a MINNESOTA, city boy, and Austin is a SOUTHERNER - Tifton, Georgia, and HAS An Accent accordingly ..... his training, experience is IN MUSICAL THEATER .... A Capella as well as show tunes, popular songs ..... and frankly with his chops HE CAN SING ANYTHING !!! Rob had Opera training in College .... Austin - who thought to try this .... he learned on the fly. He and Rob both had to memorize the lyrics in Italian - therefore AN ACCOMPLISHMENT ! Your observation is off in two fold - Austin is singing the HIGHER Part in Harmony as well as his soloing the Aria lines SO OBVIOUSLY HIS ENUNCIATION is thinner and mouthing the vowels different than the Baro-Tenor lines of Rob. True Rob is the more experienced in Opera .... He is familiar with the Aria and Italian SO THE ROLLING OF Rs, THE CAREFUL DICTION is a given. Both are phenomenal talents. jj

    You say "principesa " with only one "s" , which is wrong. Principessa must be pronounced with double "s". In Italian we have double condonants, which must be pronounced.
