    Thanks Reg, great video. I was thinking of these for my M140i as still on the original supersports that came with the car from new in 2017. (Yes only done 12000 miles in 5.5 years) and I really do struggle for grip now even though I still have 5mm of tread. I was looking around for tyres and after your video will be getting these PS5's ordered this week. Thanks mate. Stay safe and well.

      Get them - I went from the PSS to PS4 and now on PS5 on my 2017 M140i. For daily driving with some open road touring and maybe the occasional track day, they work beautifully. The original PSS used to set off DSC all the time in the wet. The PS4 and now the PS5, you have to be really be lighting it up to break traction.

    • @sebastiancatalan1376
      @sebastiancatalan1376 Před 9 měsíci

      I second that. My brother replaced the PSS on his M140i after 67000 kms and still tread left on the tire with the PS5, because of the time that passed since manufacturing. I drove the car on dry roads and i didnt feel any difference (except a little bit more traction at the starts), but he says the traction control intervention is greatly reduced, and in the wet the difference is abysmal, the PS5 is a much better tire (the low point of the PSS is wet driving, the car is barely drivable at best with that tire and even dangerous at times).

    Very nice interesting video Reg! Just food for thought, I have still a bit more than a year of BMW warranty so I will need to stick to my current MPSS *. I like the MPSS but it's an old tyre(introduced in 2011, with tyre knowledge the years before), I know from Jonathan Benson YT and a relative who works in the tyre industry that specially developed tyres such as * or ND Porsche tyres are completely different tyres than their non-marked variants, they are also developed on even more parameters. I recently saw that the fronts are available in MPS4 in * as well as in ND0, so I'm curious to try the * ones. I'm also curious to know the Traction, Temperature and Wear numbers and compare with the PS5's. No doubt the PS5's are good, I had PS4's on another car and it felt like driving on rails, especially in the wet. I heard the PS5 don't have super stiff sidewalls and they steer very light.. keep up the good work! Cheers!

    • @mshackleton1
      @mshackleton1 Před 10 měsíci

      As long as your tyres meet the specs on the door plate, you shouldn't have any issues with warranty. The PS5 should easily meet that.

    I fitted these to my 128ti and the difference was massive! The "old" tyres were Pirelli P Zeros and came with the car when new in October 2022. And they were shocking. The Michelins brought improvements in grip but also in terms of ride comfort - far less crashy and much more supple.

    It is hard to push most tyres so hard to rank them on the street. Most ultra high performance tyres have similar performance. Sometimes slightly better in the wet or the dry, or better steering feel.
    The PS5 aren't designed to significantly outperform the PS4 dynamic performance, but they are designed to improve tyre life though. Considering how good the PS4 tyres are that isn't such a bad thing.

    I had factory fitted PSS* on my M240i which were bonkers in the dry but had to change as they hate cold temps! I was deciding between GY A6 and MPS5. I went for the MPS5s as one of "Mr Benson's" videos mentioned aquaplaning which I have experienced and was keen to avoid.
    In short, TO ME, the MPS5 felt quite a bit of a touring tyre compared to the MPSS. It was a great tyre re: grip and cold/wet but so much understeer and not very quiet and didn't feel "sporty". I put on GY A6s now and it's night & day - much quieter, more "sporty" feel and great sidewall protection- something the MPS5 lacks, as I found out last summer on a trip across to Bratislava and back. Just my "2 penneth", as I see most here drive the m14oi. Informative video. Thanks🎉👍

    Reg, I have these tyres now fitted for 2500km. Starting with the negatives, they are completely different in steering feel compared to MPSS. Very light steering almost too light I’d say, it almost felt like my car was jacked up when I drove the first meters from the tyre shop. But also came from worn down 3mm MPSS, hopefully the steering weights up a bit more and they wear. You have to get used to this first when starting to push the car. They are also quite comfortable, ridges are nicely absorbed and feel they are more polished out. Positives, loads of grip, I thing on the road with daily driving it’s very hard to push to the limit of these. Putting power down is going easily with stock power & LSD. I can floor it in the wet without DSC intervening. Car feels like on rails in the wet, strong braking as well. They look neat as well. Next time I might go for PS4 * codes ones or ND0 Porsche spec ones hopefully they have better steering feel. Cheers!

    I found these tyres extremely noisy and only got worse as they got worn with a strange thrumming noise. Dry they were good but wet unfortunately not as good. They do wear better than the Pilot Sport 4 but got rid of them at 50% tread and got some Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 and they are definitely superior everywhere and bonus of softer riding and quieter. Very happy now.

      I’m intrigued about the AS6’s. I love to try different tyres, and Goodyear are my second favourite tyre brand. I loved the Eagle F1 Supersports for feel and dry grip. Just didn’t cut it in the wet, but I need to maybe try them again.

    You guys in the UK don’t run winter tyres ?
    Than it’s quite clear to me you don’t like the PSS (in winter condition) as the PSS is one of the greatest tyres once it’s above 15c outside and dry, but cold & wet weather is not what PSS was designed for

      Its true, but because the PSS is discontinued and the PS4S is not available in many countries in 18" (like mine, PS4S is 19" upwards) the PS5 is the only choice if you want to have a Michelin in your PSS equipped car. My brother had to do just that in his M140i. The good thing of the PS5 is that in the dry you do not lose much compared with the PSS, but you gain a lot of traction in wet conditions
