Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together. We also do a lot of epoxy projects as well as woodturning. - Jak na to + styl

What a beautiful piece of wood. When you were showing the finished product, I was thinking, 'That would be the perfect urn for Happy.' (My four legged baby.) Then Carl told us who the piece was made for. Sorry for your loss, Robin. You couldn't have chosen a more perfect piece of wood and design! Thank you, Carl.

I've watched several of your videos and this is my favorite piece. Hope you don't mind I'm gonna steal a little inspiration from it.
Thank you so much Charles! That's what I'm here for 😉
Fantastic work as always Carl, sorry to hear about your pup. I just lost mine as well 17 years old. I went to the plumbing store to buy brass threads but it’s great that you guys are making them❤
Thank you Robert! I'm sorry to hear that, but it sounds like you both were very blessed.
Thank you Carl. I’m sure this was a tender spot for you. The urn is beautiful. Thought you were going to put another bead at the bottom as well. No issue, I was just anticipating what you were going to do.
Good to see the threads coming into the lineup. They should be a great addition.
Thank you very much Doug!! Ever since Rick passed away it's been hard to find the right inserts for urns. I'm glad we could start offering theses so people can make custom pieces for their loved ones.
A master at woodturning. Beautiful, I was surprised that was maple. Lots of figure.
Thank you buddy!!
Good job Carl. Gorgeous piece of wood masterfully turned. I did miss the dulcet tones but at the end I understood how it would have been difficult to talk through that turning. Sorry for your loss.
Thank you buddy!!
sorry to hear about Jackson, I remember seeing him at a couple club meetings - those threaded inserts look nice, I will order a couple and try out - thanks for the show.
Thank you Mark!! Jack was a big sweetheart! The wood Robin picked was one of the pieces you gave us at the last show.
Sorry for your loss, they are a big part fo the family, mine is 15 years old.
I wish I would have been able 5 years ago to purchased a set of those inserts.
The urn was beautiful, wood and design. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much Jay!! They are a huge part of our lives! We're happy to be able to offer the inserts again.
Beautiful work, Carl. Both you & Robin, sorry for your loss. We had to put our 14 year old down two months ago. Miss her intensely at least once a day, yet. Diagnosed with cancer at 10 months, turned out to just be inflammation, treated with simple Prednisone, turning her into a food crazed puppy, was all it took. Enjoyed her for another thirteen years. I hope time heals. Might tag you on IG with her memorial. Beautiful piece, beautiful and lovingly honourable purpose.
Thank you so much Jay!! We're sorry for your loss, but it sounds like she had a wonderful life. With intense love comes intense heartbreak, but we would/will do it all over again. Take care, Carl and Robin
I didn’t know about Jackson, so sorry you guys. Beautiful urn Carl.
Thank you buddy!!
Carl fantastic mate absolutely smashing and so so sorry to hear about your puppy, but he will always be with you and your good lady, we have been there my friend
Thank you Alan! They definitely give us a lot of love! Take care
Sorry for your loss..
Thank you very much!
I purchased a set of rings from you just recently. This is my first urn for a friend that passed. The brass rings are much nicer that the pvc pipe that people make. Thanks for the video.
Sorry for your loss, I'm glad you like them.
That is a beautiful urn. My local Woodcrafters store in Tucson, AZ told me about your channel. I'm now a subscriber.
Thank you so much!! Got to love Woodcraft! :)
Sorry to hear about your puppy Carl and Robin.
That is a really beautiful urn
Thanks brother!
Condolences on the loss of your family member. Beautiful urn.
Thank you very much Mike!!
Many thanks for the insight into your workshop. Your work is very beautiful. I was also impressed by the chuck, where you can change the clamping jaws so quickly. I would love to buy one of these. Where can I buy one? Many thanks for your reply. Greetings from Andi in Switzerland
Stunning as always Carl!! Sorry about the pup. #belikecarl
Thank you brother!!
First off I am sorry for your loss. That is a beautiful urn and final resting place for Jackson.
I was wondering if you have any plans to make a larger size insert in the future?
Thank you very much Duane! We're talking with our machinist to see what he can do.
It looks beautiful Carl.
Sad to hear about Jackson...
Thank you very much James!
What kind of maple is this? it is so beautiful! Great work Carl! All the best. Ray
Thank you Ray! I'm not sure, I got it from a friend. Take care
Thank you for the insight into your workshop. You have created a stylish piece. But I was also impressed by your chuck. The quick change of jaws is brilliant, I always have to screw ...
What is the name of this chuck and where can I order it?
Thank you very much! It's the Easy Wood Chuck and it's great! Here's a link, www.easywoodtools.com/easy-chuck-1
Thank you very much for your reply - I ordered this chuck immediately. Greetings from Switzerland 😉
Very nice presentation Carl and what a beautiful, professional result! A couple questions with the Doctors Walnut oil and Pens Plus application - it looked like you put the Pens Plus right over top of the just applied Walnut oil? You don’t need to let the oil cure/dry at all? And after you parted off the bottom and finished turning the bottom you applied finish to the bottom of the urn, those products allow you to do that without any witness line where the finish applications overlapped?
Thank you very much Lynne! I let the Walnut oil dry about a half hour before applying the Pens Plus. As far as finishing the bottom, I gradually sand back up the piece and reapply the oil and finish. This week's video is all about sanding and finishing, so I'll go over all of this in detail. It will be out Friday morning.
Really nice! What size beading tool did you use? Thanks.
Thank you Mark!! I used the 3/16"
Just asking. Can you give us a 101 on start to finish from sanding to the finish and what products you are using. As a beginner wanting to know. Can I go to my local store and get the products for getting started.
I think I made myself clear I hope.
I really enjoy your work. Just like this one I am watching.
Thank you very much Jeff! I'll do next week's video on sanding and finishing.
These threaded inserts are exactly what I have been looking for...a 3 inch inside diameter would also be nice and some in stainless steel and copper...I will take 10,000
We've had a few request for different sizes, so we'll get with out machinist and see what we can do.
@@CarlJacobson I'd be interested in the 3" too. Also, sorry for your loss.!!!!!
Very nice urn, love the brass lid insert! Are they available anywhere? Thanks
Thank you! They're available on our website, nilesbottlestoppers.com/product-category/mandrels-accessories/
Very nice work. Are those inserts commercially available to purchase.
Thank you! Yes we have them on the Niles website nilesbottlestoppers.com/product-category/mandrels-accessories/
What kind of chuck is that? I love how easy it is to change the jaws.
It's an Easy Wood chuck, here's the link.

Beautiful Carl. What brand of chuck is that?
Thank you so much Suzette! It's an Easy Wood Tools Chuck. Here's the link, www.easywoodtools.com/easy-chuck-1
@@CarlJacobson thanks!
Carl: beautiful work, beautiful wood, beautiful design, beautiful urn but I need way more volume for human cremated remains. I work for a funeral home and urn size would have to hold 5 -6 times that much. Do you have any videos of large urns using the bronze inserts? I have purchased the small insert and probably should have purchased the large one which I will do. Thank you for such a great product and I also use Ruth Niles bottle stoppers exclusively wonderful product as well. Thank you Garry
Thank you so much Garry!
I don't have any videos turning a large urn with the threaded rings yet, but Sam Angelo turns quite a few urns. He have some great video on how to measure cubic inches. www.youtube.com/@WYOMINGWOODTURNER
I like your urn, threads, and you are a good brand ambassador for easy wood tools ..but sorry the music is not for me had to mute.
Thank you so much!! Believe me, the mute button is priceless sometimes 😀
Ha Carl real nice but maybe a little small for an adult don't want kids but it happens I've been thinking of making one for me for a while now been dealing with prostate cancer for 23 years an recently found out I had colon cancer so just thought it would be nice! love your video's thanks so much may I ask where did you get the incests ? You make everything look so easy!..........Larry from Calif!! God Bless
Oh Larry, I'm so sorry to hear that. We do have larger ones for bigger urns.

Take care,
Carl
I've noticed that more and more you go with carbide scrapers rather than traditional tools. Any particular reason?
Hey Thomas,
No reason.... I go back and forth all the time. Whatever tool works best for that cut :)
What kind if finish was that
It's Pens Plus here's the link, nilesbottlestoppers.com/product/pens-plus/
Sorry about your puppy 😢
You bad a beautiful urn for them though ❤
Thank you Wyatt!
