At only 17 years old, Logan hails from Boone County, West Virginia - home of Jesco White, coal mines, and...not much else. He’s got a sound and songwriting ability that’s eerily reminiscent of guys like Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan.
Logan has that mystic quality that every songwriter seeks to harness each time they put pen to paper, and he’s just getting started. “Dark Black Coal”
is a striking lamentation on growing up in coal country, and he takes you there. - Hudba

I'm not sure if he misspoke or if his muscle memory just went into the wrong song, but if you look up Far From Here you will find the song he performed at 4:35.

Got a chance to hear him play at Laurel Cove back in June. He turned 18 that weekend, he’s an insanely talented young man.

Logan, Im so glad you found an outlet through music, please keep it up! But goddamn it makes me sad as well. For someone so young to have already experienced the things you sing about... it makes me weep. We are not doing right by our younger generations. CHILDREN getting addicted to drugs, drowning in booze and spiraling into depression... its so fkn sad. It shouldn't be like this. 😕

Listening in Northern Ohio near Toledo. I love CZcams and Spotify and how they select songs/artists that they think you might like based on your previous choices. That's how I found Logan Halstead on CZcams and Tyler Childers & Cole Chaney from Spotify. I been listening to all and discovering more and more artists from the hills of Kentucky and West Virginia, where my Dad and Mom were from Mingo County, West Virginia, around Williamsom, Delbarton, Red Jacket, Matewan. Floating around to coal camps in Eastern Kentucky also, Paintsville, Prestonburg, Pikeville, Floyd and Johnson counties, all my relatives are down in the hills there and it is my family heritage and I love learning more about it through this music. My Grampa fought with John L. Lewis and the other strikers at Matewan against the coal companies and the G men the Feds sent in. and I am loving all them singer/songwriters emerging from that area (Chris Stapleton) playing REAL country music, in my humble opinion. And Logan especially has a bright future ahead of him!

ANYONE REMEMBER HIM TRYING OUT FOR AMERICAN IDOL OR AMERICA'S GOT TALENT AND BEING DENIED A PASS ON THE FIRST TRY AFTER AUDITIONS ? they made everyone pair up and they paired a wild ass WV white hillbilly with a much more domesticated black girl from a city/town with blacktop roads and chich fil a and he couldn't change his style ... I had really given up on country music, you are right they are going to be the one’s to save it. I’m a Coal River girl myself, so this really makes me feel proud my Appalachian people have a hand in saving it.
Tug river valley is plagued with drugs and poverty, drugs make for horrible living conditions. People get tired of their living conditions and dieing young next thing you know people find stuff deep inside them and they realize that's their way out. Plus with the technology we have today there are way more platforms for artists to post too. That's how they get the exposure they need. It's fairly simple when you think about it. Hard living makes for good song writing throw in the internet and boom you get these coal countrie artists.
