Love seeing this video. I go every year to the car show and to drive the track with my 43 Ford that is painted up like an old stock car. Its a shame the infield is all trees and there is a skinny path left to drive on. All in all great video to take us back to great racing days. Love the song too lol
ohh wow super awesome to get to hear the song here... by chance any one know who's singing it........... & were the singer inspired to write / sing of this race track ever there either racing or what not or what..........???
I do not understand why so many cars Ford, Chevrolet, Plymouth and even some Nash, the year 1951 run. A Studebaker Commander V8 of that year defeats by far to any of those brands in acceleration and maximum speed.
Here from S1ap. Also this song S1aps.
same.
Me to lol
This song paired with the video, paired with the fact that occoneechee is abandoned, makes this heartwarming and sad at the same time.
Went to races 3-4 times in mid 60s . Also, I played football for Orange High School on the infield of the track. Back in the day!!
Thanks. My wife and I walk it frequently. Glad it is being used for exercise, meditation and nostalgia today.
Another CZcams gem. Classic.
I'd have gone to this race, but it was held 12 days before I was born.
I enjoyed this! Glad you had the footage. Thanks for posting.
I just realized the racetrack in Pixar's Cars 3 movie is Occoneechee.
The song is called Down that Occoneechee! You can find it on Visit Hillsboro, NC's Facebook page.
absolute true STOCK CAR racing

You don't own a 1943 Ford.
And how the hell would you know?
all production was stopped in 42 because of the war effort.
all until 45 went to military and our allies.
Yessir
Beautiful and nostalgic viewing.
This song just makes me sad for some reason
Unbelievable. GREAT POST! WOW. If this doesn't capture what NASCAR was at the beginning I don't know what does. MOORE

Great video of the old days at Occoneechee Speedway. Who wrote and performed the music?
Song is called “down that Occoneechee”. I believe it is sung by the Occoneechee string band.
Sad the track doesn’t look like now, we need to go back to simpler times
Awesome...
Love that song! Very catchy.

I wonder what the penalty for speeding on pit road was here *lol*
Imagine driving flat out on DIRT in one of these bathtubs! Not for the timid!
I'm sorry there's no verse for the old northern raiders that raced in NJ and points north while taking checkers down to Fla. as well.
What song is it?
Down that Occoneeche

It's shame Nascar abandoned its fan base
