- Another big speaker I picked up for $20. These big old house speakers where popular back in the 90's. They were part of Hi-Fi hitting rock bottom. They where shells of the large floor speakers before them. Lets see if they can be redeemed into something decent.

I had these speakers in the stereo that went with it when I was a kid. About 3 years ago I found one in immaculate condition on Facebook marketplace for 100 bucks and I snatched it up. Found your video as I'm now going to redo the speakers thanks a lot!
Good gravy! I own these! They were sold with rack systems in the early 90's. Bass was excellent but clarity could have been better. Loved my old Sony rack system. 5 disc changer, dual cassette, am/FM. Sounded better than some peoples component set ups.

Are you talking about the Early 90’s Sony Dolby Pro Logic system , I have one of those systems . Surround Sound Amp, tuner, 5 disc CD carousel …Aaaannnd the cassette Deck 5 tape carousel!!!
Speakers are SS-U621AV. No SUB back then :) bought the cheap turntable separately.
$1200 total!
currently working on getting the foam repair kit for woofers . New Belts for the Cassette deck . not sure what’s wrong with CD PLAYER Yet. AMP is still great . Tuner is fine Turntable still turnin! just have to reconnect my PS2 . DVD player and VHS deck . want to compare my current 5.1 SS to the old pro logic

Hey I just got a pair of ss-u601av and just started the process of trying to improve them as well . The model I have has dual 12 inch woofers soft done tweeter and the mid is the same as yours I got rubber surrounds for the woofers though just the mid drive is going to be replaced.

When the base hits in mind it sounds terrible they got some serious vibration but hopefully some of the things you had here will help me figure it out
I got some just like this but I can't find anything on them. No numbers at all. They're super high quality though
is this like a bring back all the old good stuff month? becouse im doing the same with the some sony apm-690 speaker ..i have 2 bad twetters and one bad mid .. xD .. and the box has the same glue issues .. but i will get them to Bad @$$ again =)

I have a set of these that one of the woofers just went bad. Any tips on replacing it with something better? (maybe a parts list) Thanks.
I'd start out by re-gluing and sealing up the cabinets and adding some bracing like I've done. Then a better replacement woofer would be the Dayton Audio 10" Classic #295-315 on Parts Express. See how you like them and then from there decide if spending money on better crossovers is worth it. I have more videos coming on these just been to busy to even touch them the last few months.

those are nasty!!! tried to upgrade a set similar but the boxes and particle board split nd fell apart while bracing them... lol
