  • The Florence Academy of Art thanks the Region of Tuscany for allowing art students to return to their studios.
Next Wednesday, June 3, we will open our doors after almost three months of lockdown. Students, faculty and staff will finally leave isolation and get back to work. We will be taking all the necessary precautions.. including the tricky problem of portraiture in masks!
We also wish to thank our students, staff, faculty, trustees and supporters for helping the FAA community during this challenging time. An open invitation is extended to all of you to visit the Florence campus.

A fantastic opportunity for professional and art tutors alike to ingrain and sustain the strong rudiments of serious art, which in my opinion is going through a decadence!

Florence Academy of Art, does your Atelier accept non-professionally trained artists? Mostly self-taught and I want to take my art to a greater level by getting a classical education in realism.

Thank you, Hugo, for your interest. The Florence Academy accepts candidates with various forms of training, from self-taught, to students who have previously studied in an atelier similar to ours. We ask for 5 recent drawings, paintings or sculpture, and look to see if an applicant’s work reflects a strong interest in figurative realism, if he or she is attempting to draw, paint or sculpt from life, if they have looked at or studied from the old masters, and finally, if they exhibit some raw talent. It is a good idea to submit examples of work done in the materials we use, like charcoal or pencil, or possibly oil or clay. These suggestions are not meant to imply the student must already be working at an advanced level, but simply demonstrate that he or she is interested in working figuratively, and in the realistic tradition. I hope this helps!
