Living in Florence, Italy! 🇮🇹 Day in the Life of

- I know you’re used to seeing us out on the streets, what with me stuffing my face with a ridiculous amount of food, and Matteo wearing one of his 10 exciting black t-shirts… but today we thought it would be fun if you hang out with us at home, so I can show you what a typical day in our life looks like when we aren’t out and about in the city!
Kinda like Friends or Seinfeld, it's really just an episode of us in our apartment except without the A-list cast or studio production value, and instead with Matteo being misunderstood by Alexa and us trying not to break the radiator! 😂
🍕If you’re enjoying following along the journey and would like to help fuel me and my ridiculous love for food, you can buy me a small pizza! 😊🇮🇹buymeacoffee.com/theglobalexpats

Hi, I'm Micha! This is the behind-the-scenes & in-betweens of my life in Italy 🇮🇹 USA 🇺🇸 South Africa 🇿🇦 I am ½ of the CZcams channel 'The Global Expats' where I'm currently traveling through all 20 regions of Italy with my Italian / South African husband, Matteo 🥰
I am 100% Lebanese 🇱🇧 Born in Canada 🇨🇦 Raised in Los Angeles 🇺🇸 and being married to Matteo adds Italy and South Africa into the mix…so you could say my life is quite literally all over the place!
When we aren’t filming content for our main channel and bouncing around Italy, we spend time in one of our other home countries, so this channel is more of the behind-the-scenes and in-betweens of our lives overseas!

Whilst you shouldn’t tamp the coffee, you should tap the bottom of the filter basket on the counter so that the coffee settles. To avoid bitter coffee, use hot water instead of cold.
He is right.
Until the water boils, the heating burns the coffee.
When making coffee with a moka pot, try pour in boiling water from the start, thereby reducing the time the ground beans are heated, and less chance of burning.
Micha has the exact same accent as Owen Wilson 🤭
You shouldn't ever wash the moka pot with soap, that's true. But rinsing out the dark coffee oils once in a while is a good idea, otherwise they'll make the next coffee more bitter (unless you like it more bitter).
Also, barman's trick for a good moka coffee: coffee is very sensitive to heat (the higher the temperature when you brew it, the more bitter it becomes); mokas are pretty bad when it comes to overheating, so a couple of good tricks are pre-boiling the water outside the pot before starting to make the coffee, and turn down the heat to the minimum once coffee starts coming out (that plus the residual heat is generally more than enough to finish brewing).
Great video Thank you both. I have a mocha pot for years, but I was afraid to use it, thank you for showing proper way of making coffee on the stove with Mocha pot. I always put my red wine in the refrigerator too, and I agree with you chilled red wine taste better. Any food video coming up soon? Thanks again for all your videos in both Chanel.
That’s awesome Mojgan, I’m happy you found Matteo’s tips helpful for making your own coffee! 🤗 hahaha I’m happy to hear you also keep your red wine in the fridge! 😂💯 and we will have some food videos coming up soon! 🤗
Any Day trips to Tuscan Towns planned ? Lucca , Siena , SG? Would love to see your Vlogs there
Hey Kade, yes those will be coming soon! 🤗🇮🇹
Thank you so much for showing this video. Wow it is so different the way I make my boring coffee(lol). I really like how you prepare your coffee, very special. Ahh that makes me wanna taste your coffee with oats milk. Looks delicious.
I’m so happy you enjoyed it! 🥰 and yes coffee with oat milk is my favorite 😍
Another great video! It's nice to see that living your best life in Florence still includes the mundane things we all have to deal with like laundry. Note: I like to have the subtitles on while watching you videos - they are quite funny sometimes because CZcams doesn't understand Matteo either! (I personally enjoy the accent)
Hahaha aww thanks Jill! 🥰 Yea, we notice how much it doesn't understand Matteo when we go to correct the auto generated subtitles! 😂🤣
I’ll be spending a month in Florence early next year so very much enjoying your vlogs on what living in the city is like 🎉
That's so exciting Linda, we hope you have the best time! 😍🇮🇹

Love your apartment😍
Thank you so much! 🥰
Really good video. I like learning/seeing how different every day things/life in Italy are from the USA . It's so interesting.
Thanks M! 🥰 And yes it’s so interesting how normal daily things differ between countries!
I can’t find the pasta recipe! Looks delicious!
Looks about like our exciting days.
😂❤️
Thanx for a great video! Love seing your everyday life :D
Me and hubby are planning on moving to Florence ourselfs, so really liking your content! Ciao!

@@michaworldwide Thank you so much! Wish you a glorious day!
@@michaworldwide it is nice you are happy. I see so many videos of people relocating from US to other countries and finding happiness, peace of mind .
Never ever ever do I have my coffee on the same surface as my laptop... learned that the hard way🙄
Oh no!!! 😭
Every time he said "Hey Google", my Google Home got triggered....Annoying lol
Hi! We were in Florence in March and had a great time. We saw a lot but after watching some of your vlogs looks like we missed a lot also. We always kept a eye out for you two while walking the streets. How current are your vlogs? Enjoy what you are doing Thanks!
That's awesome Mark, I'm so happy you had a great trip! 🤗🇮🇹 We left Florence back in December after filming everything, so there is a few month delay as we've been editing and releasing the videos since then, but that's so sweet that you guys kept an eye out for us! 🥰 I know you said you missed some stuff that we've shown, but having an excuse to go back to Florence isn't too bad 😉 Hopefully you'll get the chance to visit again! 😄
It is perfectly acceptable to chill your Chianti! 🍷
Haha thanks Tania, I'm happy to hear that! We just find it so much more refreshing! 😂🍷
Omg i need a bi lingual Google to esercitare mio italiano!❤❤😂😂
Hahaha it definitely helps keep you on your toes! 😂🇮🇹
Do you have any tips on finding an apartment to rent for one to three months in Florence? I often type in searches and airbnb type things pop up, but those sites are still charging a daily rate x 30 days- yikes! Too pricey! Thanks in advance for any tips on this. Loving your detailed videos about getting around the city by foot- so clear & easy to follow. -from Belfast, Maine, US
so funny I got the same socks lol
Hahah love it!! 😂💯
Hi Micha i just discover your channels recently and i really liked them. I’m planning to move to Florence maybe next year, what part of Florence are you guys living ? I like the walk by the water. I hope you can share, i really like Oltrarno, but i see is getting also touristic, i love to eat and green, I’ll really appreciate an advice or a video with good local trattorias and green areas. Thank you !!
Thanks for this, it was very entertaining, and answered a lot of my questions. :) Are/were you able to return to the same apartment after your SA trip or did you have to find another place in Florence (assuming you're still using that as a base)?
Thank you so much Travis, we're so happy you enjoyed it! 🥰 No, we won't be returning to that apartment in Florence - since we need to keep moving through the country, we will just find different short-stay accommodations as we go! As far as a home base in Italy goes, Matteo's family owns a house in Sicily that his grandparents bought and was passed down to his father and siblings, so that's technically what we consider our home base / where we keep some of our stuff while we travel through the country! 🤗🇮🇹
Very good video. I can tell you live in the city itself. Are there restrictions to owning a car in the city (other than parking inconveniences)? If one lives in Tuscany but outside of Florence are there any restrictions to driving into the city itself?
@globalexpats you need a scumatore! I have a great oat milk for caffe latte. Buono! ❤
Coffee with oat milk is the best! 😍
Ah! You triggered my Google nest and it started playing Milky Chance. 😂
No way! That’s hilarious!! 😂🤣
I think the bins are locked to stop homeless people sleeping in them. We have the Biffa style bins in the UK and people will sleep in them and unfortunately they have been crushed and killed when the bin has been collected as the sanitation workers weren’t aware they were in there
Oh my goodness, that is heartbreaking, I had no idea! 🥺
Haha! Triggered my google too! 😊
Hahaha that's hilarious, I love it! 😂🤣
Ah, real life! So, do you guys settle in one place for a couple of months and then move on? Sounds like my kinda lifestyle.
Looking forward to my visit to Florence in just a few days.
That's so exciting about your upcoming trip, I hope you have an amazing time! 😍 And yes, we're finding it best / the most practical to just stay in one place for a couple of months and then move on to the next place/region! 🤗
Are u guys living on an airbnb or are you renting an apartment?
Wait a minute. You’re telling me you’re regular people, just like us? Never! We know this was a charade. You can’t fool us.
Can’t wait to see what you try to trick us into believing next video. Stay awesome and when you come back down to earth to walk among us, we’ll try to forget we ever saw this.
I know I know, the secret is out now I guess! 🤣 Hahah thanks Steven! 😂
Do you have any recommendation on how to make sure that you have great Internet for your laptop while in Italy particularly around Umbria and Tuscany? TIA!
Wait, I’m confused…you were making an appointment for hair cut, then showed video clip of getting your hair cut. But your hair is still long in the video…did you time travel lol?
Hahah yea I posted that video on my channel a few weeks ago, but this video was filmed before it! 😅
This was great guys, I've always wanted to know how to make espresso with one of those, not sure how to spell it. So thank you that demonstration was fantastic!!! Now to get one. the walk by the river was beautiful, need to have a picnic there!!! thank you this was great!!!! have a great day ❤
Aww thanks Cheryl, we are so happy you enjoyed it! 🥰❤️
