Cello Suite "Prelude in G" on Marimba (w/ 4 Mallets) by J. S. Bach

- Last night, I spent some time on a real, 5-Octave marimba! So I decided to record one of my favorite compositions: the Prelude from J. S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major.
I also made a Marimba Skillz video (the first in many years), which will be coming out next week! So if you love marimba as much as I do, you'll definitely want to be subscribed so you can check that out 😉!
P.S. I often use this piece as a warm-up, and my goal was to involve all 4 mallets, even though fewer would suffice. Let me know if you have any questions, and please enjoy!
Mics: Rode NT2A (stereo pair)
Mallets: GS13 (old model)
Marimba: Marimba One Izzy (heavily tweaked, just fyi) - Zábava
I love many instruments, but marimba will always be number 1!
2021 will be the year that I finally get a marimba! But in the meantime, enjoy this recording I made in a local percussion studio. Plus a new "Marimba Skillz" video coming next week 😉

Jeez! You never actually had a marimba lol?
Thank you for this!
great performance, as always

My daughter said, "that sounds nice. It looks easy." I whispered, "that's how good he is."
Hahaha! Tell you daughter that this was take number 26!
But that's what happens when you haven't been practicing 😭

This would be a great ringtone, the bad news is I would never answer a call.
You could always put it on Vibraphone when it rings.

4:40am in Italy and that's like a sunrise!
We should really be sleeping lol
But this is the best thing to listen to when falling asleep

Why is everyone sleeping on this?
Our man here did a rendition of a timeless classical on an peculiar instrument
This is so good!
To be fair, this isn’t a peculiar instrument. Collegiate percussionists have been playing Bach on the marimba for decades, specifically his cello suites
@@user-fl6jf4pn2o agreed!
@@user-fl6jf4pn2o Absolutely! I'm glad marimba is becoming more popular. And very glad to help expand its exposure!
Good to see that legendary afro is still going strong.
The Marimba just sounds so satisfying.
Wow 😍 so beautiful!
Anita Diaries, thanks! And whoa, congrats on 200K subs!! :o :o :o
As a cellist this is incredibly Enjoyable! Amazing Cover Aaron
Heyyy, thanks Ocarina Owl!
Cellist here who came here after listening to your wonderful soundtrack for Stickman vs Minecraft. Wow, you are so musical. I love your interpretation - you emphasise and connect phrases so effectively without having to change the tempo much, all while paying full attention to the voicing of certain notes and keeping the articulations so clear and equal. I pretty much instantly subscribed when I clicked this video. Thank you for presenting ideas to me that I can use when I play Bach Suite no. 1 Prelude as well.
Ho-se Kim, thank you so much!! It's a pleasure to meet another "cellist" lol. Hope to see you play some day!
Listen man, I don't know how I found you. But I subscribed when I saw you do the spin move on another video. Now every time I see one of your videos in my feed I get a little dose of joy. Your love for your instrument and music is infectious.
I can almost see J.S. Bach looking down & saying, "WHOA!!!"(-or the Old German equivalent thereof) in awe & joy... thanks for this. I'm moving in under that marimba.
With my dog. & my phone. We are both small, & will move to one side if required.
Scuze me while I listen to this again a few thousand times...
🤩🎶🎵🎶🐺
Glad you tried a song at a more relaxed pace! So happy seeing this in my recommended :)
Even if it is not on a violin, TwoSetViolin NEEDS to see this!
I must admit that I love your version of this prelude... it feels really smooth ! I'm certain that if Bach would have heard you... he would have composed music for the marimba !!!
Incredible interpretation. This seriously is up there with the best of the best on any instrument, I mean that. Extremely successful result right here. You've really given a ton of life to it, tons of sensitivity and fun here. Would LOVE to hear more of the Cello Suites. Also, obligatory mention of the Chaconne - there actually is a Marimba transcription out there and at least one video of it. I know you could handle it and I'm sure it would be tremendous.
Classical musicians know that you don't attempt to play Bach in public unless you're 100% confident because the Bach snobs will eat you alive if you mess up. 😂 Kudos to you. Leigh Stevens would be very proud 👌🏾
*Nom Nom Nom*
This song very calm for me. 😌
I like your song !!
He’s like the black bob ross of music he puts out an unkillable vibe that you can watch for days
Your comment wins 1st place! Congratulations Champ! 🏆🎉
Yeah ok, but he's also like the Bob Ross of music. 😆😆
Who cares if he's black. Weird to add it.
(Unless English isn't your first language. We wouldn't usually say someone's the 'white' or 'black' unless they do the same thing, like painting or making music.)
@@BoogieBoogsForever Chill. Stop focusing on color so much. This isn't a BLM séance.
@@Liu-Kang-Xi So just to be clear, you commented on a racial comment that it "wins 1st place," and then you told the person who is against racial comments to stop focusing on color so much. Then you needlessly -- and unprovoked -- insulted an organization fighting against systemic racism. 😵
@Bob the tomao, I don't think you meant to be racist, just fyi. I appreciate your compliment. Thx for the kind words! I do agree with @Boogie that skin color shouldn't matter. I don't know if you regularly comment on the skin color of "white" youtubers, but I've been called black at least a few times per week for over 5 years now. Sometimes multiple times per day. It's relentless. It's not a pleasant experience. But I fully understand that this is a societal problem, and most are not trying to be mean. That's why I'm commenting here. To help raise awareness.
So no hard feelings. Love you all, and thanks for your support!
@@aarongrooves he wasn’t attacking BLM. He was saying no need to get angry it wasn’t really a racist post.
So beautiful!
I love the full control you have over the mallets and the differences of volume sound like a single squiggly line, you know, completely fluid and beautiful :))
Can't find any word to praise. AWESOME!
Love J.S. Bach, I love the way you preformed, nice job, man. I will want to learn so many instruments just like you. Keep it up and keep on inspiring many like myself!!!
One of the greatest pieces of music ever written, and a beautiful rendition. Thanks.
Love how the melody just blooms out of nowhere and the past notes reverbs into the present ones ^_^
The absolute genius of Bach so beautifully reimagined
Love the rich low range of the marimba and the many little things like the musicality and even the mallet choice going into this to make it awesome

What a masterclass on how to play this piece on marimba. I loved your playing in the low register. You kept it towing the line between pushing it on the bars but maintained the sound. Killer!
