  • In this episode of Cabin in the Woods. I take you thru the remainder of the interior trim install. I also show you the best way to build and install window trim. I know there is still tons to learn as a carpenter, but learning this window trim method has not only increased my efficiencies, but also made my window trims the best they've ever been.

I notice your attention to detail and the great lengths you go to in order to ensure that your building itself, and everything in and around it are square. We had a 48x32 post frame shop with a 12 ft lean-to built on my fathers property here in Ohio. When it was nearing completion my dad was looking down one of the end walls and noticed the building was about two feet out of square- he mentioned it to the guy who was building it and his sarcastic response was "Yeah I noticed that- what did you expect me to do, tear it down and start over?" It blew me away how someone could take such little pride in their work. This was from a reputable company in our area.

This guy Rob just said something that should have been a mind blowing, epiphany for all who heard it. So simple yet so elegant were his words. I hope there is nobody at this point who is wondering what the hell I'm talking about. But just in case there are, it should have absolutely blown your mind when he said, "It only saves you money when it's running".
I've been retired going on 4 years now, but was a GC for more than a couple decades. I cannot count the number of times I've heard customers say the same thing Kyle said; "Go one bigger". I can still remember the couple of times I've had to hold my tongue when trying to convince a "know it all" customer that they had the wrong idea.
edit: Finish trim looks fantastic Kyle! The only thing that bothered me was that air gap twix your box and the jam. Although it seems totally handy to install the entire box with trim as a unit, I still think you should build them to match but install them separate. That way you could properly fill that air gap with a backer bead and foam. And that screw idea to center your box was awesome!

It's nice when people actually show you or tell you about their mistakes. Most people especially broadcasting their work on CZcams. Try to make it look like everything they do is perfect. With trolls and everything. You don't want people in the comments talking a bunch of smack. However, that's just not real life. Everyone makes mistakes and has to fix things here and there. This job is really coming together and looks amazing. ✌

That’s the same way I hang my doors, I also use a trend winbag, you place it under the door and then pump it up, it’s easier than packing the door up with scraps of wood, once the door hinges are screwed to the jamb you just release the air out of the bag. A single air bag can lift up to 300lbs , check them out on Amazon , they are excellent 👍

Here is good tip about using the main blue Kreg jig base. Build yourself a flat base from 2x lumber 12” front to back and 36” wide (long). I used 2x6 tongue and groove Southern Yellow Pine (not treated) that was left over from something else. Of course, I connected them together using Kreg pocket hole screws. Then you can then screw down the Kreg base centered left to right and pulled to the front - check the front clamp lever for clearance. Then cut filler strips to support the wood left and right of the base. Then you can clamp or screw down the Kreg jig platform wherever convenient and have a ready to use unit. I keep all of my Kreg jig inserts in a seperate box so they do not get misplaced or damaged.
    Best wishes.

Gary Shell how is the strength compared to wood glue! I have never heard of that always been told not for real wood will have to give it a go

@@luketein7965 for trim purposes I feel as though it I quite good. It probably isn’t as strong as wood glue. But I have pre assembled door casing and was able to handle it just fine. Also if you have a wrong angle on baseboard outside corner for example it takes a decent amount of force to break it it will usually let you push it in without breaking. I got the Bob smith Industry’s combo pack of glue and accelerator.
