- Turning a big bowl from ash.
When I started the bowl, I planned to do an even bigger bowl, with the pith of the crotch going through the centre of the bowl. Since I waited too long proceeding the raw piece, there were too many cracks. So I decided to cut through the middle and make two bowls. The wood was already pretty tough since it lost a lot of moisture over the last three years, so... not the best preconditions, but the result was worth it.
Due to data loss, there are a few scenes missing and some short parts without sound. I hope you don't mind!

Oh man, what I wouldn't give to be able to turn a bowl this size... The hours of roughing it out, the hours hollowing out (those never really show on videos, all those 'lost' hours..) are very therapeutic... :)

@@GingerWoodturner Grüße dich Franz,ich besitze seit heute dein M42 Schalenröhrenset von crown.Sehr edel muss ich sagen!Ich schärfe mit den Tormek Schleifhilfen und hab noch keine richtige Einstellung gefunden die 2 Fingernagelröhren zu schleifen.Der Winkel ist kein Problem,nur wenn ich das Eisen auf die Seite drehe, passt das nie richtig.Möchte die vorhandenen Anschliffe für den Anfang so lassen.Kannst du mir da weiterhelfen?Freihand wird das bei mir nichts.Viele Grüße, Karsten
@@karstenweinigel7659 das ist kein Problem. Du musst den Kniewinkel der schleifvorrichtung anpassen. Einfach immer wieder verstellen bis nicht nur der Winkel mittig, sondern auch auf die Seite gelegt passt. Dann die Einstellungen am besten irgendwo markieren.

Sooo... Was it still drying? What happened after it dried? Or did you miss out the drying process in the vid?
What size faceplate did you use for this piece?
The short video does not do you justice to how long this takes. Hollowing a crotch section can be tough. Great work.
Sehr gutes Video, das ist eine Riesige, schöne Schale geworden! Warum hast du denn den Rohling mit Folie eingepackt und dem Rand mit Klebeband abgeklebt?
Zwischen schneiden und drechseln ist einiges an Zeit vergangen. Damit der Rohling in der Zeit nicht reißt wurde er in Folie eingepakt. Das Klebeband am Rand verhindert ein Reißen der Schale während des Trocknens.

Nice bowl! You could use a coring set-up.
I actually do, most of the time. When I do production work, I use the oneway coring system. But on big and more artistic work I prefer to work straight forward. :)
Man your a giant to take on a bowl of that size, greatest respect for your endeavours and good result.
I don't see your lathe jumping around. You must have it weighted down.
