Turning a bowl from a growth that war part of a big old maple that I got from my neighbours. I'm using the Oneway easy coring system to core out another bowl. Thanks for watching!

Turning of a big live edge bowl from elm. The wood was sourced from one of the last big elms in our area. Unfortunately, it succumbed to the elm disease after growing for about 200 years in the alpine highland of my hometown - Berchtesgaden. The landowner called me and asked if I want to buy it and a few days later 10 cubic meter elm with a max diameter of 120cm arrived at my farm. The bowl was...

Turning of a salad bowl from olive ash. The bowl blank used for the making of this bowl has been air-dried for 1 1/2 years. It was cut from a beautiful piece of olive-ash that came down in a storm about 2 years ago. My neighbour generously offered me to source it from his forest by the cost of a big salad bowl... what a nice trade! The outside is cross-pattern sanded on the outside. The inside ...

Woodturning - A big bowl from ash.

Turning a big bowl from ash. When I started the bowl, I planned to do an even bigger bowl, with the pith of the crotch going through the centre of the bowl. Since I waited too long proceeding the raw piece, there were too many cracks. So I decided to cut through the middle and make two bowls. The wood was already pretty tough since it lost a lot of moisture over the last three years, so... not ...
Woodturning - A bowl from spalted beech
zhlédnutí 10KPřed 6 lety
I really love spalted beech. Nevertheless, this one was quite a challenge. I waited two or three months too long before I turned it, so the wood already was pretty soft. I used a good amount of sanding sealer to stabilize the wood so I could sand it more easily. The bowl will be left to dry for a few weeks before I will put on the finish (hardwaxoil).
Woodturning - A textured bowl from locust
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 6 lety
Locust is one of my most favourite woods when it comes to texturing. In this case, I used a thread chaser. I missed filming the sanding (but that's boring anyway...) The wood was oiled right off the lathe since it was almost dry. I removed the oil that wasn't absorbed by the wood a few minutes later. When the bowl has dried and relaxed, the tenon will be removed.
Woodturning - A basswood bowl in real time
zhlédnutí 31KPřed 6 lety
Basswood is one of my most favourites species for objects of daily use. It has a really nice texture and develops an awesome patina if left without a finish. The piece I used was bone dry. Basswood desires razor-sharp tools and delicate finishing cuts. Tenons tend to break, so I don't take the heaviest cuts while roughing the inside.

Has been three years since we did the first image video for Ginger Wood. Since then, so many things have changed. My beard grew, I got more tattoos, I built a bigger and better workshop and improved my woodturning skills. At least my passion and love for woodturning remained. The idea was while working with the natural resource wood, we were fascinated by its structure and characteristics. It w...
Woodturning - The making of 130 Bowlblanks
zhlédnutí 25KPřed 8 lety
This timelapse video shows the process behind bowl blanks. In this case it took me about 18 hours from scratch to make 130 bowlblanks that will be turned into wooden bowls once the wood is dry (and 60 pieces of square timber). Don't worry, the offcuts will be used to heat my workshop during the winter months and the shavings will be used to heat our house or to make a bed for our animals.
