It is an underrated movie. Many refuse to accept it is even a Western. For most things in life there is a City Slickers scene. Always worth a watch if you are having a crap day.
That's exactly right! I've figured my priority out a long time ago and I made her my number one priority in my life! I LOVE YOU LISA WITH ALL MY HEART & SOUL!!
*herd I would like to presume that viewers know why Curly (actually the writers) made that clarification of saying "Texas," because Oklahoma also has a panhandle, so there's an inherent need to specify which panhandle.
@@TheWinstonSlip And did you know that you and everyone else was incorrectly taught to use the word "cowboy" by Hollywood and publishing houses (of books)? There were cowhands and drovers, meaning those that worked with cattle and those that drove them. In actuality, the character of Curly was a Drover, not a "Cowboy." The term "cowboy" was **exclusively** used to refer to rustlers and outlaws, never legitimate handlers of horses and cattle. The "Cowboys" were a large outlaw gang (500?) that robbed, raided and killed in the nineteenth century in Texas and the surrounding area. They were driven out by the Texas Rangers, and the survivors, perhaps 200, then went into the frontier, into southeast Arizona, into Cochise County, to continue their crimes. These outlaws were known far and wide, across the nation, as "Cowboys". For Hollywood and publishing houses to use that label on legitimate cowhands or drovers creates confusion, and causes most modern folk to not even know about "the Cowboys." It virtually covers their existence in history, effectively hiding it, to use that label on anyone else. It was a vile insult of extreme offense to use that term on anyone: it was not used, because it was a total accusation of rustling and outlawing. Now you know.
Curly said he been with lots of women but he found his priority the "one thing", in his words and I quote.."there's nothin like bringin in a heard" he loves bein a cowboy and doin cattle drives.

Only modern folk who've been deceived use that term on legitimate ranch-hands. Why does this matter? Because of who the Cowboys were, what they were up to, who they served, and what they did. Beware the application of terms to wrong references: it serves the system by confusion and ignorance > it deceives.
I saw this scene when I was a boy. I remember it so well. I took a great effort not to pass any happiness opportunities in my life. guess I ain't no Cowboy
When you've lived your life chasing women and chasing female approval, an empty man finds himself in Crystal's shoes. I should have been chasing my "one thing ☝."
But what if you don’t want rum raisin after having Seabass? What if you want moose tracks? Or caramel chocolate? Or strawberry cheesecake? So how would Ira know?
No ones talking about 'the one thing' !? What do you think it is? It's either : stick to yourself.... or, have 'faith' in there 'being more' and everything will be ok, no matters. (God) What say you?
I lost my grandmother. She cut her life short. Can anyone relate to me? YES. There is only one person who can understand not only why I suffer but how I suffer because he suffered as well and only those who can relate to someone can be of help to that someone. Jesus can certainly relate to me. And if my grandmother understood this truth she wouldn't have cut her life short because she would've been able to look at Jesus and everything Jesus stood for and taught and she would've been able to see a friend instead of an angry distant God who sends people to hell. Indeed, the truth is that hell does exist. But there is another truth that people often overlook. This truth that people overlook is that Jesus loves us. How can both these truths exist simultaneously? Maybe that is the "one thing" that this cowboy was talking about. He gave up the opportunity to be with that woman he saw working in the field years ago because, in my opinion, he was scared of rejection. Could it be that most people choose not to believe that God loves them because of their fear that God will not give them happiness?
Joshua Brandao While I understand your loss, pie-in-the-sky religion has nothing to do with it. What ol' cowpoke is trying to convey, is ambition and single-mindedness. Most people ALREADY know what makes them happy, but it's usually buried "under a lotta shit." Do you have a big enough shovel to dig UP your happiness? That what YOU gotta figure out...
Edward Gaines you're right. I wrote that at 2am in the morning yesterday and when I can't sleep I write things that I think are deep and profound. However, when I get a good night's sleep I tend to not try to find deeper meaning into every little thing. Lol
My "One Thing" is my girlfriend and always will be! I want her to be my wife! She's most important to me and everything else don't mean shit! I'll do whatever I need to do to be a good man to her!
Same here dude..my girlfriend is MY ONE THING. We are long distance right now..she lives in India..we video chat everyday she calls me when its mornin there and when its night here and i call her when its mornin here and its afternoon there. We met last year online on October 10th 2018 we celebrated our 1 year anniversary the day she found me on Scout. She is takin a trip to Japan next year in March and wants me to join her so we will meet in Bangkok and be on the same flight to Japan and spend 10 days there and some days in Bangkok after our visit. She is my world and my priority. She is the most beautiful pure angel in the world and we are very much alike inside. Good luck and god bless to you and your woman..Billy Crystal said on his comedy 700 Sundays when u meet the one..you never let her get away.
No he isn't. MGTOW is about despising women. Curly thought he saw a woman who could have been the love of his life, but he chose to ride away; not because he was worried about becoming "whipped," but because he felt nothing else could ever top that first moment. Maybe he was wrong; we'll never know.
This is an underrated scene. One of the great scenes in cinema
I agree 110%...
It is an underrated movie. Many refuse to accept it is even a Western. For most things in life there is a City Slickers scene. Always worth a watch if you are having a crap day.
We find out what the one thing is at the end of City Slickers 2. Great sequel!
I didn’t understand this scene when I first saw this film at age 22. At age 54 I know it’s absolutely brilliant.
"she could have been the love of your life"
"She is"
That is such a great, great line.
Remember this scene as a kid! Hits much deeper now. "City Slickers"
The tracking shot, score, Jack Palance' delivery of wonderful dialogue romanticizing the cowboy spirit ... absolutely perfect!
Yes. Palance was superb
Two life lessons
One scene.
Still resonates after 30 years
My favorite part of the movie......it has stayed with me since I first saw this movie.
One of the movie scenes, ever! Jack Palance was among the greats.
A truly magnificent scene that everyone who don't know what to do with life should watch.
I agree with you.
Touching…sad… All about living a life that brings you happiness.
It is finding a priority and living for it. That is why it is "what you got to figure out".
That's exactly right! I've figured my priority out a long time ago and I made her my number one priority in my life! I LOVE YOU LISA WITH ALL MY HEART & SOUL!!
Exactly. Finding God is the most important for your soul
One of the best scenes from a movie ever 😉. Live your life no matter what
“I was driving a herd across the panhandle (looks at Mitch) ... Texas.”
That look when a cowboy Curly says Texas! LoL

Whats panhandle ?
That guitar right after the “she is” line….
So good
This scene is one of the best parts of the movie! Awesome!
Hell yeah it is!
Curly reminds me of my gpa. There a dying breed. An lived life on his terms. Simple, honest an brave ! Miss you gpa, everyday. We all do🙂
Life is simple! We make it difficult
He doesn't smoke that cig, he breathes it.

My "one thing" is pictured on my left arm here. Such simple advice from a silly movie but incredibly true none the less.
Bill Cayemberg I'm with you on that brother!
Ha, gayyy

Probably your values.
I'm sure its something a little different for everyone, but it always has to be something you love more than yourself.
I still haven't figured out that one thing yet.

I was not talking about "Jesus." I never claimed that the movie spoke of such things.
The One thing for me is: Horses. International show jumping horses. sláinte!
