People who do this are either crooks looking for a quick buck, discounted meal or to hit on women. Or, they're clearly mentally ill if they fight to stick to their stories once exposed. Only the one guy admitted he was a fake soldier. My Brother in Law (now deceased) use to go to Air shows dressed as a Pilot and walk around to get attention he stood next to Fighter Jets as if he flew them, he'd get inside the cockpits and have my sister take his picture (who btw was oblivious to his facade) He did this for several years and pretty much got away with it until he climbed into a Jet in front of the actual pilot who approached him and asked for his Military ID. He couldn't produce it so the Pilot called for the M.P's to question him. My sister had to deal with the embarrassment of standing there with their children while the real Air Force told him what he was doing was illegal and they had the authority to place him under arrest because he was on an Air Force Base. How humiliating for my sister and her kids...but even afterwards she defended him saying that he had just forgotten his Military ID. Pathetic. All he did was go to a Surplus store and purchase an outdated flight suit. In his lifetime he claimed to be a Doctor, a Pilot, a Clergy, a writer that wrote all the Black History Encyclopedias...(although he was a white guy) A country music singer and an undercover CIA agent for the President of the United States. He once disappeared for a week and when he returned he told my Sister he had flown the President to Mexico for a secret meeting with the Mexican President and that he couldn't disclose the details of his mission or he'd have to kill her. In reality, all he did was work for a Sheet Metal company as a Gopher... He was as mentally sick as it gets in that respects. I honestly think he was mildly retarded as well.I would confront him for his lies and he'd flip out on me like a crazy person.
P.S- I say if they're gonna go around dressing like a Clown in Uniform then they should join the Circus.

What's next a VA that's actually properly functional and gives vets what they need?

Sadly by my area of work we have people who "claim" to be homeless vets always holding signs asking for "anything". While I can't prove or disprove their status, I see them often in the same place and area several times a week. They aren't the only ones. There are plenty of panhandlers in general in the area, one guy even pretending his has a disability, holding a sign that says "Anything Helps" and walking with his feet together going up and down the side of the shopping complex I work in, pretending. Again, same person, same area.
These types of people sicken me honestly. There are people out there who truly are on their feet who need help and yes, some actually are vets who, for some reason, ended up in a position of homelessness. The fakers piss me off, but there is nothing that can be done. While there are plenty of cops in the area, I don't think the cops stop them, so they continue to beg for money. One person I talked to at my job (a customer), thinks the reason in the area I work is because it's highly religious as there is a temple down the road. Even if that's the case, it's so horrible that people would give money to people who clearly aren't the real deal.

A real Navy Seal would never make any claims about what they do.That alone says it all.

exactly, the whole point of being a navy seal is to not let any leaks happen and keep the whole thing a secret. But obviously the homeless man wasn't the real bully was he? It was the other guy who was probably a fake seal as well who was the bully. The one who wasn't in uniform was obviously the aggressor.

How things have changed. When I got out of the service there was No One that claimed they had served that didn't. Even the Vets that served didn't tell
anyone they served. People just didn't want to tell people they had been in Vietnam as they didn't want to get spit on. So glad the men and women today
    get the respect they deserve.

Any real vet talks about their buddies not the service or their achievements so much. The people you served with are your brothers and will always remain your brothers.
