    Interesting video about a filter which is a bit of a taboo in this hobby!

    This canister is awesome I bought it for my 14 gallon rimless tank and the flow is very strong. I only added some activated carbon pellets to the center media basket.

    Very similar to Fluval canister filter (which I'm using now) and it works great.

    @Thomas Burton or @Bulk Reef Supply Can the outlet support rigid tubing like the intake can? I might need to extend mine by an inch or two (run it through a predrilled hole in the euro brace of my tank).

    Can you use a random flow nozzle on the out flow?

    I bought one of these to replace my aqua clear 50 that I have on my 10 gallon tank. I got the whale 200 because I had seen a video from Thomas were he recommended going bigger than what the box recommended for my tank size due to flow. Sadly the flow coming out of it was very little even at max. I got mines from petco I’ll see if I can return it and get a tidal hang on the back instead. The reason I was changing from my aqua clear is because the top some times comes off when the basket pushes it up so I know the tidal filters give a solution to that problem. I guess the one used in the video was the whale 500 it seemed to move the water well in that tank which is just like mines but the 200 not that great.

    Thomas, how do you clean the filter canisters without disassembly of the lines from the tank?

    • @madworldproductions855
      @madworldproductions855 Před rokem +1

      I know this is 2 years late, but for anyone still curious, the piece where the tubes connect to the main unit detaches, so you don’t have to actually take the tubes off. From there you can move your filter and disable and clean with ease

    Awesome video! How often do you recommend cleaning the filter?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  Před 3 lety +1

      It would be a great idea to give the sponge filter a good rinse every couple of weeks. The bio media requires less maintenance as you don't want to rinse away all of the good bacteria that have worked so hard to populate the media's surface.

    Any idea on why I have microbubbles? My Sicce whale has been running for about 2 months and it’s been since day 1. I’m new to canister filters. Thanks!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  Před 2 lety

      Sounds like air is entering the system somewhere. Make sure to check all connections and also the intake of the filter to make sure air isn't being sucked in.

    • @geirfammestaddonski4835
      @geirfammestaddonski4835 Před 2 lety

      Most likely you have a small gap close to where the intake tube enters the canister. Try to make sure all hoses sit firmly attached, and the air bubbles will most likely disappear.

    What do do when priming is not working?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  Před 2 lety

      If you've primed the filter, but it still isn't moving any water. Try taking everything apart and making sure there isn't anything assembled incorrectly. If that doesn't work, shoot Sicce an email and the team there can help with further troubleshooting or warranty support if necessary.

    Are these canisters any good and what are some cons

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  Před rokem

      Sicce is a leader in the aquarium space and absolutely make good canister filters. The biggest con with canister filters in general is that it's usually a bit more labor intensive to clean them out. Thankfully, the way that this one is designed, it makes maintenance a little easier to relieve that headache.

    • @slooky14
      @slooky14 Před rokem

      Do not buy this junk, cons are it leaks! its not a canister that is water tight. When you put the top on if you don't put the hose thing in right, it leaks. I would always put it inside a piece of tuperware so I could see if it would leak. The last time I used it, it was all good, tuperware was dry. A few days later, it started to leak I had water everywhere. Tuperware was full. That was the end of that piece of junk.

    Why are people saying they are taboo?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  Před 2 lety +2

      Canister filters just aren't used much for the saltwater side of the hobby. Most aquarists look at them as a freshwater filter, but they don't have to just be for freshwater!

    Great videos as always but Sicce filter seems a poor design to me. I would recommend anyone looking for a canister filter looks at the Fluval or Oase filters
