We had a tree removed in our yard and had to remove the stump. One day I heard this noise looked out the window and there it was a woodpecker chomping away at the stump. Wood chips flying up in the air. 🤣🤣. He sure saved us a few dollars. Thank you Woody . And the stump is gone
Tom same I hear it too but I can’t see it. Once my video started playing the pecking sound disappear in real life. Maybe it knows I’m searching about him.
I have these same woodpeckers at my family cottage in Ontario that visit often on the trees about 10 feet into the bush. I need to record them and post the videos. I’m not sure if it’s certain trees that make the ones I see often behave different or if they are just building nests and they are using a different technique, but when they peck at the tree they don’t go as fast as shown in this video, they take longer single “pecks” at the wood, like they are chiseling it/carving the tree then they hop to the left three inches, chop the same area from a different angle, hop back three inches to the right and chop from initial angle, well while they are switching the angle of attack, wood is flying everywhere, they take out fairly large chunks with each “peck” they take you would think they are holding a small axe. It’s amazing to watch and they do this very often, I’ll try to get it on video.
As I type this comment, there’s a pileated woodpecker in the tree of my front yard just pecking away. I hear more often than I see them. Never realized how loud their pecking sounds up close!
Just saw one in the forest next to my work truck and heard this thing going at a tree. Glad I found out what kind of woodpecker it was. Thanks for the video
Had one that was making music on my downspouts, drove us crazy for a while. Sure hope he found a girlfriend with all that noise, because he certainly did not find any foods in the process.☀️
630 am mine likes to rap on my tin roof. To get the old man to pour out the black seeds. And maby some mullet. He likes to be called "buddy" every fall he and his charming lady show off there children. Ling live " buddy"
'Drumming' is a way of attracting a mate and mark territory. When they actually hunt for bugs they made single strong strikes to take chips off the wood.
If you focus on the back of the woodpecker's head....it looks like two eyes looking back at you! It reminds me of when people who walk through jungles wear a mask with two big eyes painted on it attached to the back of their head. It has shown that predator animals don't attack humans that are "looking" at them. This bird only looks from side to side, never up, and back.
Woodpecker: Alright sir, that’ll be 1300 seeds for the interior design Tiger: oh I don’t think I have enough *tiger looks at woodpecker* Tiger: Wait, I’M A TIGER! I DONT NEED TO PAY FOR SHIT
Definitely 2 types of wood peckers around here, one that sounds not that loud and one that the whole forest can hear. I tried to sneak up on that loud ass noise and nope never seen it. I was shitty
Nope, they have tongues in their head that go around their skull, have a small but tightly packed brain, the cavity for the eyes is actually larger than the cavity for the brain.
@@FeyreArcheron741 They are fascinating, the amount of force that is produced when they strike would is equal to driving into a brick wall at 16mph, they have thick and porous skulls. They actually have to blink when they strike would because if they don't their eyes would pop out due to the shere amount of force. They can strike up to 20 times in one second. Sorry if I'm just dropping all of this knowledge on you. It's just cool to find someone else who enjoys this stuff.
I had one of this bastards mad a ton of hole on the side of my house while I was on vacation. One day I woke up to some banging and found it red handed. I scared it away and it kept coming back until I had to put sheet metal on the holes. Then it never came back.
Same thing but only happened once, didn’t know what the hell it was but had me petrified in my bed early morning, checked the cctv and sure enough it’s these fuckers.
Cartoon exaggerate every sound effect in the world, but they got this the woodpecker spot on
He doesn't sound like *Woody* at all!
CZcams comments usually exaggerate the content. This comment right here is spot on.
Actually they do make that sound, especially when they find a nice soft tree

It's woodpecker by my house no lie it sounds just like this
Fun fact for anyone who didn't know: Woodpeckers tongues are wrapped around their skull, and it absorbs the shock from pecking through the wood!
They also close their eyes when they strike to protect there eyes from popping out of their head.
I want to ask them how their brain tastes
@@littleredcorvette4491 haha
@@littleredcorvette4491 yummy
I think it's for force up to 1000 Newtons right?
I grew up listening to this in upstate NY. This video is the most accurate sound I've heard so far. And it echoes pretty far through the woods.
This just woke me up right out my sleep and I searched it up to make sure that was what it was and it most definitely is a woodpecker lmfao.
Did the same. They peck incredibly fast i thought it was a machine or a machine gun from far away at first.
This is exactly my case
Khelgar Ironfist fuckin awesome profile pic

It’s a hellbeast
This is the right reason I can’t sleep in on Saturday morning
^ Me at the moment

Lovely, I have one living in my backyard right now.
It's absolutely mind blowing to me how many people don't know what this sound is or have never seen a woodpecker before!
There are a few of these on my grandmothers property. You hear them throughout the day every day. It never gets old.

I see pileated woodpeckers all the time while deer hunting. Cool to watch.
My grandparents had a massive forest behind their old house, which was in a rural area. You would hear this sound all the time coming from the forest.
Heard this today in my backyard (Ontario) took me a while to realise
Tom same I hear it too but I can’t see it. Once my video started playing the pecking sound disappear in real life. Maybe it knows I’m searching about him.

The representative of all Woodpeckers
amazing how loud they are when pecking
What a fantastic sound, please post full vid if possible.
I can imagine how scared that big fat worm living inside the trunk must have felt each time it hears the drilling. "It's coming closer." it thought.
Beautiful video, thank you for sharing!
OuO cool sounds amazing

Everyone loves a woodpecker until it’s your metal chimney it’s using as a mating drum at 6am!
For anyone who didn't know toucans and woodpeckers belong to the same family
I heard that humming birds are actually related to them too

“Guess who!”
I wonder what’s going through its mind, like ”ait this ought to be a nice spot to pick a bit, or hm maybe here?”
