Parotidectomy for Parotid Gland Tumor
The OHNI medical team encounter a New Jersey woman with a giant tumor who has given up hope. Her daughter tricks her into a consultation with Dr. Ryan Osborne and Dr. Jason Hamilton which ultimately changes her life and their careers.
About Dr. Ryan F. Osborne:
Ryan F. Osborne, M.D. is the Director of Head and Neck Surgery at the Osborne Head and Neck Institute (OHNI) and is an internationally renowned expert in head and neck oncology. Dr. Osborne has developed a special interest for the treatment of parotid gland tumors and focuses on the use of minimally-invasive techniques in the care of patients needing parotid surgery. He has innovated many groundbreaking surgical procedures, including a treatment for accessory parotid gland tumors, which requires no skin incisions and leaves no facial scars.
Dr. Osborne completed a fellowship in advanced head and neck oncology under the mentorship of world-renowned expert, Thomas Calcaterra, MD, at UCLA Medical Center. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Osborne, became an Assistant Professor of Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA, and was awarded the Clinical Instructor of the Year Award for outstanding training of surgical residents. While at UCLA, Dr. Osborne collaborated with Dr. Calcaterra to provide their patients with unsurpassed surgical care.
In 2003, Dr. Osborne left UCLA to become the founding Director of the Head and Neck Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In 2007, he resigned the position, dedicating all of his time to advancing the mission of OHNI and the Head and Neck Cancer Foundation for which he serves as President. The global mission includes: the creation of a center of excellence where patients' comprehensive cancer needs can be delivered, to collaborate with internationally renowned surgeons to advance surgical techniques offered to patients in the United States, and the pursuit of unrestricted clinical and biomedical research projects to advance the diagnosis and surgical management of cancer patients. Under the umbrella of OHNI, Dr. Osborne has traveled throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe to observe and exchange ideas with other surgeons who have similar goals.
Dr. Osborne is a board certified diplomate of the American Academy of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of University Otolaryngologists / Head and Neck Surgeons, and a member of the Triological Society.

❤️❤️❤️I have been a nurse for 38 years, and in all these years I’ve never met nor have I’ve ever heard a doctor speak as humbling as these two doctors express themselves. What an amazing pair of doctors and office staff!!! Keep up the amazing work, and optimum patient care you all provide‼️
You're and your staff are Angels, God bless you
You are so correct. I’m heading into my 30th year of being a nurse so I know you remember well that years ago when a doctor came into the nurses station you got up and gave him your seat. I only remember 1 doctor in that timeframe who would put his hands on your shoulder and tell you to stay seated. He was a true gentleman. These 2 doctors are so humble and every nurses dream.
@@karenculpepper973 Yes, I remember how the majority of the male doctors expected the female nurses to get up and give their seats at the nurses station. There was this one doctor (a jerk) that would stand right behind us and would annoyingly exhale loudly to let us know he was exasperated, so we (the nurses) would purposely take our sweet time documenting or would pretend to be talking on the phone. LOL
I have been a pharmacy Tech since 97' and all the doctors I've worked with had a GOD complex. It was a surprise to see how humble these doctors are.
Congratulations and thanks to all nurses who are able to continue in the world of medicine as it is today. I have a neighbor on either side of me who retired early because they could not handle it anymore. I have a daughter who is a nurse and loves it.
I do not understand how any physician would not immediately be pro active in finding the proper health professionals to help her. I am so glad she found help at last.
I’m just furious on her behalf that no physician would do anything, searching out the best people to help her. I’m glad for her that she was finally connected with these wonderful and talented doctors that were able to help.
Who else was in tears watching this video? I would absolutely love to meet Drs Osborne and Hamilton, just to thank them.🙌🏾
А плакать отчего?
What an amazing daughter she has. She felt her mother's pain and took the step to set her free. 🙏
These doctors are the heroes we need to hear more about instead of the negative things we hear on the the news. We are lucky to have people like this.
Agreed
I agree! May God bless these wonderful doctors.
These doctors are truly guided by the Grace of the Lord 🙏..... A doctor that Prays with the family before the surgery is a doctor everyone should be graced with... May the guidance of God forever be ingrained in the Osborne Head & Neck Institute and all of it’s staff 🙏
This story restores my faith in humanity - thank you so much to these noble doctors and for this women's courage to never say I've had enough and keep hoping.
These doctors are doing God's work ,bless them!
I do have one comment. Why do they present
the actual surgeries as a 'slide show'? Why does the portion of the program that
portrays the wonderful work being done and the techniques being used reduced to a
frustrating collection of stills.
Dr. Osborne's voice over when he is walking up to Madeline's door gave me chill bumps. It does not surprise me that Dr. Osborne recognizes God is guiding him and his team during surgery. Dr. Osborne successfully removed my husband's grapefruit size Parotid Tumor in 2010. Dr. Hamilton's plastic surgery skills left no trace that my husband had ever had a tumor much less surgery to remove it. Like Madeline, fear (of facial paralysis) kept my husband from having surgery sooner. We prayed and searched for an answer for two and a half years while the tumor grew. It was definitely divine intervention that led us to find this team. We are eternally grateful to OHNI and to God.
bless you dog
He is an amazing man and such a gifted doctor. I believe God is using these two men and their team for great things. Such an inspiration! So glad to hear your husband's surgery was successful. I don't think he could have been in better hands.
Dr Hamilton saved the life of a USC athlete who literally dropped a barbell with heavy weights onto his neck during team training. Not sure how he even survived the weight on his neck without being decapitated but Dr Hamilton fixed the rest up and saved him 🙌🏻👏🏻
Chill bumps 😂

These doctors are angels!! She was so brave and beautiful inside and out!! Thank you Father God for the healing and recovery of Madeline!! Bless her and these doctors for giving her her life back!!
These two men are the kindest doctors I've ever seen. They were assessing the whole patient and not from a negative aspect. Your compassion and passion for the human well-being is beyond gratitude. I've worked my share of physicians and you are the mythical unicorns. Many bright blessings 2u always.
I loved the part when he hugged her and ate lunch at her house with her family , so heartwarming ❤️

Me too. He really cared. U don't see that these days with doctors. The whole story touched my heart
These gentlemen are amazingly talented and caring. Anyone treated by them will live to say they have two guardian angels. Wonderful story.
It never ceases to amaze me how cruel the people we are supposed to be able to trust with our health and our lives can be. How can someone spend so many years and so much money to become a doctor only to treat their patients like garbage. I am so happy that she has been able to heal and get her life back. Bless her , her family and her medical team!
Dr. Osborn and Dr. Hamilton are an example of what doctors should do! What a wonderful example of such wonderful people that can make a dramatic but positive change for someone else's life! Madeline has truly blossomed and the doctors made that happen! I wish I could work for such a dedicated doctor that really cares about everything and everyone!
Some days you need something like this to remind you that there is hope for mankind. That there are actually decent human beings that care about others and are able to help someone out. I am happy this video exist. Despite the fact that I am crying.
Angels on earth! So good to see people like this! People who really care!
Me too, my mother had the exact issue, not as large of course but I'm amazed with this doctor!! Sir, you have your calling and you do it with honor.

I am 84 yrs. I have lived in 3 Countries and have 4 Children. 🌟🙏🏻💗I have never met any Doctor that is akin to The Team EVER. I PRAY I may one day find a Unique Dr like these to help me. So beautiful to see all the people They have helped.
This gracious lady has a Beautiful Caring, Loving Daughter🙏🏻💗
This just gave me head to toe goose bumps. I've been in healthcare for a long long time a lot of doctors are incredibly arrogant and they are the ones that just sit and write scripts never having performed surgery, and to see these two doctors to be so humble, truly empathetic with patients to make them feel that they are truly cared about by the doctor and can relate to them on a personal level is just amazing. I love when he told her she changed his career but they changed her life.
"He's about excellence." Yes, yes he certainly is. This is an amazing story, and what a courageous man to step up to the plate when other doctors turned this woman away. It is also disgusting to hear that she was treated poorly by other doctors. Most likely because they were intimidated and knew they didn't have the necessary skill to help her.
The fact that tumor is not malignant is a miracle itself..
One who decides to save is ..
@Marta Liébana a
So sadly it is:( I hope they give an update on her treatment.

The world needs more of these doctors. You can honestly see the care they have for their patients. And how humble they seem, amazing. Doctors like these are spesifically called for this. You get so many doctors that you feel like you are just another payment to their wealth. These doctors geniunly care. I salute you!

I am in awe of these men - their compassion, courage and faith is an example we all should follow.

WOW! These Doctors are the true meaning of what it means to be a doctor. Absolute angels and true to their cause.
I have never ever seen any type of Doctor in my 51 years of life that has the human component and true empathy sympathy and humble personalities to do what they have committed to Do for others. I truly wish that more doctors of our future are committed and passionate about what they do... Many blessings!!!...

Drs Osborne and Hamilton, you are such a breath of fresh air. I wish there were way more physicians like yourselves. And your not just a man, Dr. Osborne. You're a very very special individual with great talent and great compassion. Too many doctors seem to lose that human element in their practice making them so detached from their patients that they come off as being uncaring and even sometimes cruel. I understand the need to be somewhat detached but please don't ever lose sight of those metrics you talked about because that's what places you and Dr. Hamilton far above most doctors. You are both amazing and inspiring men as well as a first class surgeons. God bless you both.
Cindy Coker you nailed exactly what I was thinking so eloquently...wish there was a love button.

Such an AWESOME team to do this for Madeline, their family members must be proud of them for giving back this lady life to her ❤️
What a nice Doctor. He’s an an amazingly skilled human being, Bless the patient that tumour was gigantic and you had tried so hard to live with it and then like a butterfly you emerged from the chrysalis of the tumour. You are a beautiful lady.
Madeline is such a beautiful lady. I am so happy she got her tumor removed by these amazing doctors. May Madeline, her family, and these doctors have much health and happiness for many years to come❤
She didn’t trust any other doctor, she trusted him. This was beautiful and amazing.... she is finally free💗 And What a gentle soul....
I had tumors on my foot / toes. I saw 8 doctors. They all told me no. 1 said I would have to have amputations. I met 1 doctor and I never had any doubts about him. From the very 1st handshake. He said he would do it. But he did not seem happy. I had to go to specialist is San Francisco 1st. So I did. Went back to the 9th doctor and had 2 operations. 1 more left. So far so good. You just know! When you met them. You just know!♡
I feel the same way .
Jessa Jarrell I was like what the fuck is that? Gross!
@@donaldmcjizlletetz5499 If you are referring to the woman who needed the surgery as gross, I truly hope you never experience such a life altering condition, as I think you would have a lot of trouble coping. Not only do people with these tumors and other conditions have to adapt and limit their lives, it may take years to find someone with the expertise and the willingness to help them. Try hard to imagine you had this problem, and how it would affect your life - relationships, work, and simply going outside - and looking in the mirror. And think about why someone who looks so different makes you uncomfortable. Sometimes we have inner problems that need healing.
Deborah Saneda I was just like ew what the actual fuck is that gross nasty shit and ew you’re an ugly blonde fatass bitch haha😂
Wow. Look how her life was changed. She seems so sweet .. look at her now she’s amazing you can tell it’s not just how beautiful she looks but her personality is so nice.
Seeing the physical and psychological burden of that tumor lifted from that terrified lady was mind-blowing. In her pre-surgical photo you can see in her eyes the resolution, fear, hope and determination all at once. And she just glows now.

You people show a level of caring a patient can only hope for. What a blessing for those that are in your care. Dr. Osborne you are an amazing young man.
What an amazing outcome for both the patient and doctor.

Doctor Osborne is not just a man but an incredible one. I loved his description of what a Dr has to deal with. The burden can weigh heavily.

how did it go
I had the surgery at 18, but this was 1974. Practically the stone-age in terms of these types of surgeries. I had a general surgeon who did all sorts of surgeries. Not a specialist, he was assisted by my family doctor. I am very grateful it wasn't cancer , I had been told at 13 when it first came up that it was just a swollen gland. I also had the mumps at 16. Idk if that had anything to do with it, same gland I believe. That side of my face was completely paralyzed. Over the course of a year I got probably 75% back. Psychologically devastating for me. Also no cosmetic surgery. But honestly I think those docs did pretty well, considering! I'll always be grateful to them. Dr. Soldman and Dr.Lyons. La Mesa California
Every now and then a person comes along who warms your heart. Dr. Osborne and his team are a group of those people. I love them and what they do. Doctors tend to lose their compassion for humanity, but not the Osborne group. It seems as if they love more and more each day. God Bless them all.
No words can express what I feel about these doctors and what they allowed this beautiful woman to rediscover in her life and relationships .I'm in absolute awe of their talent , their empathy and humanity to others

This is one of the most beautiful, heartfelt stories, from both sides I have ever heard.
Before my husbands death a year ago, he worked on the LSUMC orofacial team. They did the most amazing life changing surgeries. I admired those doctors so much. They are very caring, skilled risk takers.!
May your husband's soul rest in perfect peace
I thanked G-d for your talents. You are all such beautiful humans that help others get their lives back! Thank you all so much from my heart.
Not sure why this was in my feed but wow am I glad I watched this. Most people do very little with the lives they are given. They don't take risks and they don't reach for the impossible. They don't add anything to the world, only their own lives. These men make a difference. And we need more people like them. I hope they are able to be proud of all they have accomplished. They are humanity at its' best.
People should realize that this type of surgery is extremely delicate, and patients are in danger of facial paralysis. The reason is that facial nerves exit near the ear and progress along the mandible and inside the parotid gland , then splitting to control facial movement. These doctors did a remarkable job in dissecting the tumor away from this lady’s face and at the same time preserving the facial nerves on that side. It is very tedious work, and these physicians deserve all the accolades that have come their way because of their training, expertise, and caring demeanor.
Good of you
I think most people do realize that.
Ya. Not to mention help from above, they actually prayed with the family.
It seems miraculous she didn't have any residual facial nerve or movement damage.
Um... ok
This hits my heart deeply!! Thank you doctors for giving this beautiful woman her life back. You are all angels 💓💓

if your god is so just and good, why did he give her a tumor in the first place? silly theists
da139114 God doesn’t “give” cancer to ANYONE!!! Are you a parent? Would you “Give” your child bleach or fertilizer? Of course not, but you are there immediately to help them go through it..... some people think they know so much about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, when you don’t know dedidly squat!!!!!
Anita Davis yes but if God is in the control of everything and Humans are meant to be a mortal reflection of God, explain why we have terrorists, racists, sexists, homophobes, and many other horrible people. Also if God is so nice, why would he flood the world? Why would he kill of innocent people because of the actions of one Pharoh. The bible also contradicts itself multiple times, also a woman cant come from a man, a man can come out of a woman/a man with the sexual organs of a woman. If god is in control of everything, he akso has the choice of who dies, who gets cancer, who gets fortune, which people are forced to live in slums and die young of poverty and disease, ect ect. What you're talking about is an idealisation of a God, what a god should be. No being, omniscient and omnipotent or not in their right mind would give anyone any harm. Isnt it also insanely idiotic to punish an entire species just because of the actions of 2 who ate a forbidden fruit on a plant? Im not going to go on about this further as I would write a whole book about the problems with religion, the bible, and gods. Feel free to respond to this in anyway
You are wasting your time Sketchy Tiger. All they say is "Because God" with their ears covered, minds closed, and can do it with a straight face. They are programmed, and that is that.
I bet most of them don't realize that had they been born in a different country, their ridiculous beliefs would have been about some other sky fairy.
Anyway, let them keep bleating on the magical spaceman, because I find it hilarious :)
Most people who talk to imaginary friends, and hear them speak in their minds, get locked up in soft padded rooms, with nice jackets that fasten at the back. However, call it religion, and they get a by. They are as mentally deficient as other people who talk to themselves, but "Because God".

Just found your channel! Dr. Osbourne. Madeline literally changed the way that tumors are handled. She was the mega and you, Dr. Hamilton and your staff did what most doctors would say is unthinkable! You handled that tumor like a boss and she came through it and can live her life now and not be afraid and hiding her tumor behind her hair. Madeline is a beautiful woman that has a beautiful heart! You guys changed her life for the better and it’s like she is the pioneer to what you all do today for many patients. God Chose you all to do this and I’m so glad that both of your testimonies reached other people who need you worldwide.
This Dr has me completely sold. His entire person is amazing.

I couldn’t do this job, I would cry for every patient
These doctors are awesome, they changed that ladys life, after so long carrying that tumour, the weight must of pulled on her face and neck so much, it's great that she speaks to other patients going through similar, and can empathise with them

This is the second time I’ve seen this and I think you guys are the best surgeons I’ve ever seen. Thank you so much for helping that lady. God is good and he is with you through your surgeries.
Most people never fully realize their life's calling, but both these doctors have used their abilities to now make not only a physical change but emotional change in such extreme medical cases.
I wish there were more like you in the world to travel the globe as you do to make such huge changes in the lives of others.
Blessings to you both!
