    Parotidectomy for Parotid Gland Tumor
The OHNI medical team encounter a New Jersey woman with a giant tumor who has given up hope. Her daughter tricks her into a consultation with Dr. Ryan Osborne and Dr. Jason Hamilton which ultimately changes her life and their careers.
    About Dr. Ryan F. Osborne:
Ryan F. Osborne, M.D. is the Director of Head and Neck Surgery at the Osborne Head and Neck Institute (OHNI) and is an internationally renowned expert in head and neck oncology. Dr. Osborne has developed a special interest for the treatment of parotid gland tumors and focuses on the use of minimally-invasive techniques in the care of patients needing parotid surgery. He has innovated many groundbreaking surgical procedures, including a treatment for accessory parotid gland tumors, which requires no skin incisions and leaves no facial scars.
Dr. Osborne completed a fellowship in advanced head and neck oncology under the mentorship of world-renowned expert, Thomas Calcaterra, MD, at UCLA Medical Center. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Osborne, became an Assistant Professor of Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA, and was awarded the Clinical Instructor of the Year Award for outstanding training of surgical residents. While at UCLA, Dr. Osborne collaborated with Dr. Calcaterra to provide their patients with unsurpassed surgical care.
In 2003, Dr. Osborne left UCLA to become the founding Director of the Head and Neck Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In 2007, he resigned the position, dedicating all of his time to advancing the mission of OHNI and the Head and Neck Cancer Foundation for which he serves as President. The global mission includes: the creation of a center of excellence where patients' comprehensive cancer needs can be delivered, to collaborate with internationally renowned surgeons to advance surgical techniques offered to patients in the United States, and the pursuit of unrestricted clinical and biomedical research projects to advance the diagnosis and surgical management of cancer patients. Under the umbrella of OHNI, Dr. Osborne has traveled throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe to observe and exchange ideas with other surgeons who have similar goals.
Dr. Osborne is a board certified diplomate of the American Academy of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of University Otolaryngologists / Head and Neck Surgeons, and a member of the Triological Society.

You are so correct. I’m heading into my 30th year of being a nurse so I know you remember well that years ago when a doctor came into the nurses station you got up and gave him your seat. I only remember 1 doctor in that timeframe who would put his hands on your shoulder and tell you to stay seated. He was a true gentleman. These 2 doctors are so humble and every nurses dream.

@@karenculpepper973 Yes, I remember how the majority of the male doctors expected the female nurses to get up and give their seats at the nurses station. There was this one doctor (a jerk) that would stand right behind us and would annoyingly exhale loudly to let us know he was exasperated, so we (the nurses) would purposely take our sweet time documenting or would pretend to be talking on the phone. LOL

      frustrating collection of stills.

Dr. Osborne's voice over when he is walking up to Madeline's door gave me chill bumps. It does not surprise me that Dr. Osborne recognizes God is guiding him and his team during surgery. Dr. Osborne successfully removed my husband's grapefruit size Parotid Tumor in 2010. Dr. Hamilton's plastic surgery skills left no trace that my husband had ever had a tumor much less surgery to remove it. Like Madeline, fear (of facial paralysis) kept my husband from having surgery sooner. We prayed and searched for an answer for two and a half years while the tumor grew. It was definitely divine intervention that led us to find this team. We are eternally grateful to OHNI and to God.

I had the surgery at 18, but this was 1974. Practically the stone-age in terms of these types of surgeries. I had a general surgeon who did all sorts of surgeries. Not a specialist, he was assisted by my family doctor. I am very grateful it wasn't cancer , I had been told at 13 when it first came up that it was just a swollen gland. I also had the mumps at 16. Idk if that had anything to do with it, same gland I believe. That side of my face was completely paralyzed. Over the course of a year I got probably 75% back. Psychologically devastating for me. Also no cosmetic surgery. But honestly I think those docs did pretty well, considering! I'll always be grateful to them. Dr. Soldman and Dr.Lyons. La Mesa California

Not sure why this was in my feed but wow am I glad I watched this. Most people do very little with the lives they are given. They don't take risks and they don't reach for the impossible. They don't add anything to the world, only their own lives. These men make a difference. And we need more people like them. I hope they are able to be proud of all they have accomplished. They are humanity at its' best.

People should realize that this type of surgery is extremely delicate, and patients are in danger of facial paralysis. The reason is that facial nerves exit near the ear and progress along the mandible and inside the parotid gland , then splitting to control facial movement. These doctors did a remarkable job in dissecting the tumor away from this lady’s face and at the same time preserving the facial nerves on that side. It is very tedious work, and these physicians deserve all the accolades that have come their way because of their training, expertise, and caring demeanor.

Anita Davis yes but if God is in the control of everything and Humans are meant to be a mortal reflection of God, explain why we have terrorists, racists, sexists, homophobes, and many other horrible people. Also if God is so nice, why would he flood the world? Why would he kill of innocent people because of the actions of one Pharoh. The bible also contradicts itself multiple times, also a woman cant come from a man, a man can come out of a woman/a man with the sexual organs of a woman. If god is in control of everything, he akso has the choice of who dies, who gets cancer, who gets fortune, which people are forced to live in slums and die young of poverty and disease, ect ect. What you're talking about is an idealisation of a God, what a god should be. No being, omniscient and omnipotent or not in their right mind would give anyone any harm. Isnt it also insanely idiotic to punish an entire species just because of the actions of 2 who ate a forbidden fruit on a plant? Im not going to go on about this further as I would write a whole book about the problems with religion, the bible, and gods. Feel free to respond to this in anyway

    • @TazR6

You are wasting your time Sketchy Tiger. All they say is "Because God" with their ears covered, minds closed, and can do it with a straight face. They are programmed, and that is that.
I bet most of them don't realize that had they been born in a different country, their ridiculous beliefs would have been about some other sky fairy.
Anyway, let them keep bleating on the magical spaceman, because I find it hilarious :)
Most people who talk to imaginary friends, and hear them speak in their minds, get locked up in soft padded rooms, with nice jackets that fasten at the back. However, call it religion, and they get a by. They are as mentally deficient as other people who talk to themselves, but "Because God".

After reconstructive surgery and skin grafts she got her life back. Her case was so amazing that her Drs have her pics in their medical journals to show others before, during, and after. She was even on a local TV program . I lost the top of my nose 3 yrs ago to skin cancer also. I wore a bandage over my nose for way over a year. Modern medicine is abeautiful thing.
