PlayMemories Mobile is a free app that makes your Wi-Fi compatible Sony camera use more convenient via tablet or smartphone. // Send photos and videos to your smartphone, with the choice to transfer all of your photos in either its original size or 2MP files in one batch. // You can remotely control the camera in any of the P/A/S/M exposure modes from your smartphone, while watching the live view of the camera on the smartphone. // You can also intuitively control the camera, making it useful when taking a photo or video in situations where you don’t want to be holding the camera directly: such as night scenes, long exposure water scenes, or macro photography. // You can add the smartphone's location information to the saved photo in your camera if the Location Information is compatible with your camera. // You can also add the smartphone's location info to the saved photo on the smartphone while remote shooting if your camera is not compatible for Location Information function. // Compatible PlayMemories cameras can use BULB shooting, continuous shooting, and Wi-Fi connection setting by QR Code, etc. by updating "Smart Remote Control" application on the camera. Available remote control functions depend on the camera. // Action Cam users can operate various functions on your smartphone: live-viewing the subject, shooting, remote playback of shot image, etc. // Lens-style Camera users can operate various settings of the camera by smartphone: viewing the subject, shooting, zoom, touch-AF, etc. Get the Android app for free from:
    play.google.com/store/apps/de...
Some of the recorders supporting this feature are HDR-CX620, HDR-CX670, HDR-PJ620, HDR-PJ670 but also many more.

Every time I use my iPad to control my Sony camcorder it raises the audio input level far too high. I have it set really low so the audio from my mixing desk won’t distort but the app on my iPad raises the level far too high when I start to record.

Thanks for sharing the experience. Somehow, Sony changed the support for this app and switched to "Imaging Edge Mobile". It's lousy for a big company like Sony didn't update the info description of their "Camera Remote Control" and direct the new search traffic to their new one.

Any idea of an expected range of successful control of the camcorder from a smartphone? In other words, do you have to be fairly near the camcorder with your smartphone to control the camcorder or could you potentially be sitting far from the camcorder in the stands in a high school gymnasium and still have access to control the camcorder setup on the floor across the gym?

    Great video, thank you.
In the camcorder in the WiFi section, there is an option "Send to Computer".
When I select it, this information appears:
"Information of the computer where the data is to be saved is not set to the device. Connect the computer to the device with an USB cable and set it."
How do I do that? Do I use PLAY MEMORIES HOME for that?

Looks like you have to use the play memories pc app yes. Alt: You just connect the usb to a computer or even better use a microsd card reader

Not having remote picture controls is a major fail of this app. For a one man video recording that's a must.

This app is constantly updating and adding more functions. For my a6000 mirrorless camera, it is almost fully functional with the camera features. Touch focus on your phone etc.
