  • A video primer showing how I've customized the setup / gear rigging for my 14-foot Clearwater Designs Inuvik Angler fishing kayak. Because it's a sit-in, as opposed to a sit-on boat, it requires a bit of a different approach. I've worked on this setup over about 5 years, taking my time to get things exactly the way I prefer. Hope this helps provide some ideas for others who want to set up a sit-in kayak for angling. Don't be shy when you're done, leave a comment and/or hit that LIKE button. Cheers and tight lines.

Thanks! That boat is my happy place. Just love being on the water ... and the more remote I am, the happier I am!

Looks good. Simple and effective. I like that. I use a bigger SOT but sometimes fish with a few friends who use SIs. Guess who gets to the good spots first?(it ain’t me. 😉)

Thanks for watching and for commenting Stewart. I also like the speed of the SiS boats, fished a few tourneys and never got beat to my spot ... and as someone who uses it both for fishing (mainly) and some recreational paddling the versatility was an important factor. Cheers!.

Thanks for sharing. What’s inside the laundry jug for your anchor?

Hi Amy … I had some leftover cement mix, so that’s what I used. However you could just fill the jug with gravel or sand. Can also use whatever size jug you want … Cheers.

How/where do you mount your transducer? I’m thinking of getting this exact kayak but I have a striker 4 fish finder

Hey Nick, first, I think you will love the Inuvik Angler ... very versatile boat especially if you want it for both fishing and recreational paddling. That's why I got a sit-inside model. Re. the transducer, I use a ball mount at the right of the viewscreen. If you stop the video at 0:16 seconds, you'll see the transducer on an arm at the side of the kayak. There's a closer view around 30 seconds, you can see the arm attachhed to a ball and track mount on the side of the hull (above the water line). I drop it down when I want to use it, and swing it up when turned off. I'd suggest using the kayak a few times before settling on the exact position, as it could affect your paddling ability if you get it, say, a bit too high on the boat. It works for me but I'm not 100% sold on it being the best possible position. Whatever you decide, all the best!

Why did you remove the fishing deck? I'm considering adding it to my Inuvik but could be swayed.

Hey Adam very sorry I missed this comment. The fishing deck is certainly useful, but I wanted to be able to store several of the Plano-style Stowaway gearboxes inside the kayak shell in front of the foot pedals. It would be very difficult to access the gear with the fishing deck in place. By removing it I just lean forward and can reach any of the 3-4 Stowaways I usually take on longer half- or full-day trips. Depending on where I am fishing, and what I'm fishing for, I take several different lure types, all organized in the Stowaways. I can also store a small cooler bag up front, and I have easy access to all of that stuff. I do sometimes use the deck if I am out for something like crappie early in the season or if I'm just doing a very short trip with just a few lures. It is also useful for mounting a second camera (I almost always have a GoPro with me, mounted on a geartrack on the deck just to the side of the cockpit. I can also mount my cellphone on an extra mount on the deck if I want to give me a second angle). Hope this helps.
