  • I’ve been kayak fishing for about 5 years now. From simple sit in kayaks to luxurious pedal kayaks. While both are nice, sometimes the simple sit ins are all you really need. With all the options out there today, you can easily rig up a cheap kayak and make it perfect for fishing. In this video, I’ll show you how I rig mine and keep it relatively cheap.

    I dig the tool holder modification. Never attach an anchor to the port or starboard side of a craft. Bow or (preferably) stern on a forward fishing boat setup. Cheers

    I have the very same kayak. I just put a stadium seat in over the original seat and really enjoyed the extra inches of height. I can't bring myself to cut out the back hatch yet but it makes total sense. If you modified the opening could you put a milk crate in there?

    • @zackoblinger7596
      @zackoblinger7596  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey as long as it works! I originally bought a stadium seat to do the same, but the jumper seat is more comfortable for me. As far as the back hatch, I think a milk crate would need more hole back there than I’m willing to cut. You might lose too much structural integrity in the back. Mine is just big enough to fit a smaller tackle bag.

  • @cliffw5061
    @cliffw5061 Před 4 lety +2

    Did you notice any extra flexing after cutting out the seat? Seems like it is part of the structure of the kayak

    • @zackoblinger7596
      @zackoblinger7596  Před 4 lety +1

      If there is any flex it’s minimal. I’m sure that’s relative to each model of kayak though

    How did you mount the boat seat to the kayak. Did you use nut and bolt or is it just laid in place?

    How did you attach the seat , I might have to the same thing.Also you could put a backing board on that anchor cleat.I used a piece of plastic cutting board.

    • @zackoblinger7596
      @zackoblinger7596  Před 3 lety

      I left the seat loose. Works great and don’t have to worry about fastening it to the bottom of the yak

    Hello from a fellow WVian!!! Stumbled onto your channel looking for modifications to sit in kayaks. That is some great modifications to the kayak. Just getting into kayaking myself. My channel is more about hunting here in WV, but I also have reloading, casting, leather, knife making and amateur radio. Sub'd to your channel and will be looking thru your videos. Yea sorry about that. It’s pretty simple though. I took a small piece of tree branch with leaves. Rattle can orange, brown and black. Just spray over the branch in random spots

    Great video. I would have liked to see how the seat was actually mounted. Did you mount it with hardware, or strap it with bungees?

    • @zackoblinger7596
      @zackoblinger7596  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! The seat is actually loose. I didn’t want to put any holes in the bottom lol. It works though.

    ive rigged my aruba 10 for fishing but cutting out the seat makes me nervous as in what if i dont like the seat im putting in to replace the cut out one

    • @zackoblinger7596
      @zackoblinger7596  Před 4 lety

      It’s kind of a risk for sure. I’ve done this with a few kayaks now using 2 different seats. Both were far better than what was molded in the kayak. But I understand not wanting to cut the original seat out

    Would the seat had been able to been mounted on top of the original seat?

    • @zackoblinger7596
      @zackoblinger7596  Před 4 lety +1

      I don’t think so. The molded seats are usually rounded to contour your legs and butt. The seat would probably fit, but it would move around too much and probably be at a weird and uncomfortable angle

    • @skatehabitat711
      @skatehabitat711 Před 4 lety +1

      @@zackoblinger7596 Yeah that makes sense. I really just want to sit a few inches higher. How did you secure the seat to the yak? Would I be able to make some sort of spacer that could slip on to those knobs comming off the bottom or do you think that would through the balence off too much?

    • @zackoblinger7596
      @zackoblinger7596  Před 4 lety +2

      I just leave mine loose. It will vary from kayak to kayak and whatever seat you have. As far as spacers, I was going to make a small frame for the bottom of my seat out of pvc board just to sit a little higher. I ended up not doing that since it fit so well on those knobs. I’m sure you could make something like that work for yours
