I would only do opened adoption. As I heard, I wouldn't want the possibility of hurting feelings with closed adoption.

How do you deal with post-adoption agreements? In my state they have to be voluntary, but our agency states they are mandatory. We also been asked to have visits at Disney World once a year with our family funding all travel expenses for the birth family. I'm just not sure I want to have a legal document stating that we have to do this. What is we have a job change, a medical issue, etc. Why is this required of Open Adoption?

every state is different, so I would check with an adoption attorney inn your state to find out the answer to that

I would think closed would be better if the child was informed much later on. In that case, identity would be developed already with the adoptive parents.

MY HUSBAND AND I PREFERRED CLOSED ADOPTION THAT WAY THERE'S NO DRAMA IN THE FUTURE. I WISH THAT THEY HAVE THAT CUZ NOT ALL PEOPLE ARE WANTING DRAMA, BS, ETC,ETC. ALSO SOME PEOPLE ARE PRIVATE TYPE.

I am, more and more, gaining a sneaking suspicion from the adoption culture (i.e. adoption businesses) there's little to no concern for what's best for the child or the adopting parents' concerns. The only concern adoption businesses have, for example, is making money - they NEED a supply of birth mothers who want to adopt out their child and, of course, they'll suggest to the birth mother that open adoption is totally possible. They want to give every assurance (lie) to the birth mother that's what the adopting families want as well (it's not).
The truth is, most adopting families don't want an open adoption. There's no way my wife and I will want to share our child. We'd be beholden to the personality, character, desires of someone who is not in our family (i.e. the birth mother) and that can introduce a whole set of problems that will inhibit the authority we have as parents of a child. Once we adopt, we are the parents and ONLY US are duty-bound to love that child and that's the bottom line.

I wish they had had open adoption in 1970. This adoption thing has always haunted me.
