I was down there that bank holiday weekend, one week before my 16th birthday.
Too many stories to tell, but what a difference compared to today.
The government used to fear lads like the one interviewed here, proper lads who didn't give a fuck.
We've become a nation/world of grassing slaves obsessed with there credit score.
Many thanks to the elderly couple who lived right near to the ground in a bungalow and let all the Leeds fans hydrate from their garden hose one by one.
It was like a scene from Dunkirk, literally hundreds of lads calmy queueing up to get their water from this lovely old couples hose
But then going back to harass the OB.
There were rumours that West Ham had come down and a few others, but if they did then they didn't show there faces.
There was 15 000 Leeds fans down there that weekend, it would have been suicide.

@@andyclohessy5840 I couldn't agree more. I'm exile Mancunian what lives in Scarborough now. I've been a Manchester City fan of 40 years. My last City game was about 3 years ago V Norwich first game of the season. We were reigning Champions and the atmosphere was pitful. And 48 pound for the privilege. That was it for me. Sick and tired of paying ludicrous ticket prices, fed up, sat with corporates and Daytrippers who only jumped on the football bandwagon after Euro 96 because it became also fashionable. Sick and tired of silly kick off days and times to accommodate Sky and TNT sport's!!! City will always be my club in my blood. But I just stopped enjoying the match day going experience. It's not the game I grew up with stood on the kippax at Maine Road in the 80s90s even early 00s. Maybe living 115 miles away made the decision easier. I watch none league Scarborough now it's a good crack!!!

One will never forget how they destroyed my lovley seaside resort. I was sat on Bournemouth green, having a nice afternoon cup of tea, when these Leeds thugs came along. One took a bite out of my cucumber Sandwich, the other took the cherry of my Mr Kipling cherry bake, and one started drinking my tea out of the teapot spout. Then when I confronted them. They took my straw hat of my head, passing it around amongst themselves laughing and singing. I'll never forget it my dear wife was distraught!!!

7:17 so what kind of thing would u have to do to defend yourself? Ask a stupid question or what,I've heard many idiotic things said in my life but that beggars belief really. What was he expecting for an answer? Run away, run to cops grassing for protection from them? Or tickle him with a feather duster, lol? Natural human instinct,a survival instinct to react to being attacked/assaulted by fighting back in self defense no? I'm 47 been drinking in pubs since I was 15-16. Was attending Elland Road to watch my beloved Leeds United by myself as young as 12 cos my mates who claimed to be LOYAL fans like myself turned out to be plastic supporters, rather spend paper round wages on batteries for a Walkman than go to game? Anyway enough waffle,in ALL that time and all fighting I witnessed I only ever ONCE saw a guy curl up in a ball on floor and get kicked n punched. Everyone else attacked back.

V Gillingham at home in may 08 at end of -15 season We finished in play off places and sent them down to league 2 in the process to add to the celebrations that day. I went on pitch after whistle as I'd done after last home match of every season since 85-86. I was on my own, despite fact I wasn't aggressive or swearing just asking a player for his shirt I was assaulted by security, carted off by police. Day after game I got released and noticed in his programme notes chairman ken bates advised/asked fans to keep off the pitch. If I'd read it b4 game I'd still have done it. I was horrified and ashamed of my extended family that day. Allowing a greedy, selfish Chelsea bastard who clearly hates Leeds and only interested in making money from fans he slagged off. Charging category A,B +C prices in league1? Paying more than some fans in premier League to watch 3rd division and doing what your told by him even tho u hate him and being ripped off? Not me anyway I don't regret it, eventually got banned for 4 whole years, not seasons. Both home and away meaning if I tried to buy a ticket in my name etc I be refused after looking at p.c to learn I'm banned. I only missed 5 league games at home in that 4 years. Nothing and nobody can/will prevent me following my team. 3 seasons later after final home game of 10-11 campaign as Leeds players did a lap of honour an old lady,a pensioner bolted out of front of kop past stewards who not doing what club pay em for yet again. She was led away, eventually received a ban for same offence, encroachment of playing area or something like? Committed exact same offence aswell as banned by same individual who dished out a 4 year ban both home and away to the 6'2" tall skinhead man with tattoos. As she an OAP who already renewed and payed for her season ticket for next season. So refunded her money, only banned from home games for 1 season but allowed to purchase a membership card, enabling her to buy tickets for aswell as attend away games?

Thanks for the comments - i 'm glad the uploads attract both opion and debate - the theme of the channel is to represent a social history and archive of Leeds United Football Club in particular - and British soccer in general - a large section of content is dedicated to the 1980s, a decade where i only missed a handful of matches both Home - Away & Pre Season . Truth is football hooliganism was a fact of 70s & 80s soccer life and as a young lad following his team away from home it became something impossible not to notice or aviod - been on the recieving end of it more than once you soon realised that the safest way to follow your team away was to stay team handed and have safty in numbers - i neither glorify it nor comdem it -but it's a fact that groups such as the Service Crew and others played it's part in the Leeds United story during the 80s and to ingore that wouldn't be telling the true strory of the period
