As a Christian I must agree; Judaism and Christianity are not the same. However, I must ask a question of Linda Strauss: How does the Tanakh and Christian Old Testament differ, other than different organization? I have a copy of the Tanakh on the shelf here. The title page Identifies 1999 Edition, published by The Jewish Publication Society of Philadelphia. The entire book is translated into English but the translators are not listed. Looking over the table of contents, I see no overwhelming surprises. The first five books are the same. The Prophets are in a differnent order, but I see nothing not in the Christian Bible. The Writings, in a different order, but the same titles. A major difference is the interpretation of some passages. Orthodox - classical(?) - Jews do not recognize Jesus but do accept some prophesies speak of the coming Messiah - Mashiach. Christians read these same passages and see Jesus as that coming Mashiach. That is clearly a difference in interpretation here and both 'sides' (I really don't like that usage) agree that is the point of contention. I cannot understand the difference in the recorded words and thoughts.
Which "the Christian bible" are you referring to? There is no such thing as "the bible". There have been multiple Christian bibles/canons throughout history and none of them match each other nor has one ever been demonstrated to be authoritative. And btw, I'm speaking of different versions with differing content and not translations. Christians historically cannot even agree on what is actually scripture. This is demonstrable as nearly every version is extant.

D. 325. There are others and I see no reason to list them here. However, these do not disagree in the writings common to all. So to claim 'differences' is rather misleading, if not entirely false. Every discovery made by historical research of texts and archeology verifies the writings and claims of the Bible as a whole. Authoritative? It is authoritative to me as I know God. Christians may interpret the Bible differently. Reorder some books. And they did add a "new testament" but the actual text is identical. They both are based of the exact same Hebrew. This video is so monumentally incorrect. Please point to a single difference in actual text, not interpretation
Via the 'Septuagint'. The NT is in Greek, and its authors used a Greek translation of the OT. Therefore, its an interpretive translation to make the OT read more Christological. See Tovia Singer.

I have never heard a Christian say that the Tanakh mentions Jesus (at least directly, though they do believe some of the prophesies are about him), and every Christian I have ever heard from knows that the ‘New Testament’ is not part of the Jewish canon. If any make those mistakes it is important to correct them, but those are not Christian teachings. I have heard many say (and most I know believe) that ‘Christianity’ is the same as Judaism but with the added belief that Jesus is the Jewish messiah (Greek ‘christos’) and the implications that follow from that. Christians believe in the God of the Tanakh, with their understanding of that God being informed by the teachings of the one they believe to have been the Jewish messiah and his disciples. They hold that Christianity is Jewish in its roots and at its core (all the original disciples and leaders were Jewish and the ‘New Testament’ is written by Jews), and the gentiles were just granted the opportunity to join in the service and worship of the God of Israel (thus blessing all the nations of the earth through Abraham) because the Jews rejected the messiah, though he will reign over the world as the king of Israel from Jerusalem when he returns. As far as needing to be saved, I don’t understand your point; Christians do not hold that anyone should have whatever religion they want, and so only Christians need to be saved (surrender to and be forgiven by God for their sins), but that everyone needs to be saved, and that the messiah/Christ is the only way. So if you are rejecting the way to reconciliation with God by taking a different ‘religion’ instead, that is ALL THE MORE REASON to repent (if they are right).
Torah is just Genesis-Deuteronomy. Tanakh is what matches the Christian OT. Christians believe that there are allusions to Jesus and even appearances of Jesus in the Tanakh, but my point was that she seemed to think that Christians believe the ‘Old Testament’ is as explicit in talking about Him as the ‘New Testament’, which would make it different from the Tanakh.

Yeah I'm not sure you get it. The hebrew bible is the old Testament. But you need to get a real Jewish publication. Not Christian or Messianic. The Christian version - Greek translation has molested by inserting wrong translations, bad cross referencing and manipulated certain passages in order that they appear Christological as to assume the foreshadowing of a Crusified Messiah that dies for our sins on the cross. It is the same Torah and same Old Testament, the Bible has the same writtings of the tanakh. Only difference is Judaism adds the oral law and relies on the oral law the Talmud as part of the word of God but it’s not. So yes it’s different at the same time. One uses soley the tanakh and other uses the tanakh and the Talmud. So yes and no. Atleast that is my understanding. Whoa you gotta be real careful. Yeshua/Jesus speaks of oral law in many many places. The traditions of the elders is something in of its own right. I.e. see Mat. 27. 57-60 he was not found to have even broken the oral law.

The problem is Judaism is against acknowledging the Godhead which is ALL over the Jewish Bible and it’s perceived as forbidden knowledge by rabbis. Just because you refuse to acknowledge these parts doesn’t mean it’s not there. Jews thought messiah meant political freedom and that’s what their worldly flesh body wanted more than anything, so spiritual liberation when the messiah came was absolutely overlooked and missed. Being elected isn’t the same as being saved. There are no Baal worshipers in heaven, and plenty of Jews who were elect worshiped Baal and lesser false gods.

The Tanakh saying that no-one has ever seen God would make since if there are multiple persons and verse was referring to the Father and/or Holy Spirit. So, when Hebrews said, "Adonai eloheinu, Adonai ekhad," what they were saying was "The Lord is our God who is many, the Lord is one." That sounds a lot like a triunity to me. Here you have Jesus who claims to be this Messiah, who fulfills 300+ prophecies from the Tanakh, and who has reliable, historical evidence that He rose from the dead. It's actually not. The "old testament" is several additional languages and human societies deep translated from original scrolls and texts. And over time, those translations have become altered more and more. The torah, and tanakh, are not.
I'm so confused. I'm not Christian or Jew or Muslim, but I'm reading the Bible and will read the Quran when I'm done with the Bible. My understanding is that the Christian "old testament" is what the Jews taught and believed. So the Tanahk was part of their stuff but the new testament, aka, the stuff about Jesus took precedent. Though i only this week learned that the tanahk and Old testament are ordered somewhat differently which i don't understand why that would be. It's the same stuff isn't? Or is there stuff in the "old testament" that isn't in the tanahk, or vise versa? Please don't tell me I'm going to have to read the tanahk if i want a full view....I've been annoyed as is getting through the old testament, i don't want to read slightly different but mostly the same stuff...
If you’re reading a Catholic Bible, it’s not the same, but a Protestant Bible and the TANAHK are the same stories. What she means is that the interpretation and the translation/transliterations are different. The religion is different, but what a Christian might refer to as the “Old Testament”, a Jewish person might call the “TANAHK”. It is the same in sentiment (although translation/transliteration can slightly alter different readings), but very different in practice.
There are words in the Tanakh that can not be translated into English. And there are words that were translated to support Jesus, even though they do not translate to mean him. Jews are not waiting for G_D to come to Earth because he is not an old man with a long white beard. Jews are waiting for a decedent of David to come to be born. If you decide to read the Book of Mormon, I suggest you get the three in one from an LDS bookstore because the Old Testament had to be changed to support the Book of Mormon.

No there are differences. Christians took Jewish books and translated them differently in some important areas, but often they'll do it one word or phrase at a time so it isn't obvious. Christians don't know Hebrew or Aramaic though and don't study with traditional Jews because their pastors teach them they'll go to hell if they learn from the religion who authored the book 😂 so they don't know this.

The Christian translation of the Torah and the Tanakh is not the same as the Jewish one. They have changed the meaning and wording in subtle ways, which is a sneaky way to muslead their readers and is easily missed if you don't have a legit Jewish copy of the Tanakh at home to compare it to.

Yes of course there are words in Hebrew you may find difficult to interpret in English but the overall idea is the same. The Tanakh and The Old Testament are the same. I agree! I’m Christian and I’m so tired of people saying that it’s the same as Judaism and Islam. They’re very different. Though yes some Christian Bibles’ Old Testament and the Tanakh are the same (due to some Christians preferring to read the Old Testament in Hebrew). It is not true for every Christian because of how some prefer to translate it. The religions are vastly different and it comes from ignorance of how the other groups practice. There are sources like the Talmud and Mishnah which Christians do not use. Jews also developed in their own unique ways just like Christianity with different denominations. And Islam has an entirely different book with different stories and also their own denominations. These religions are far from alike. Clearly with the New Testament Christian’s will interpret the Hebrew Bible differently.
You can have different religions all following the same god in different ways. That's my understanding of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. They're not "the same" but still follow the same deity.

So you're saying your translation makes Jesus out to be God... This is the problem. There are words, phrases, etc. all kver the Old Testament that have been changed to alter the interpretation of the Hebrew and Aramaic. They get away with it because Christians aren't taught to read these languages like Jews are, and because you're told your whole life to avoid the Jewish teachers who could actually teach you the text the right way. The mistakes in Christian translations of the Tanakh are too many to count.

My English Bible says, "The Lord says to my Lord:..."(Ps 110:1). So if anything, there is an issue with the English language here, not so much the "Christian" bible. They are different. Christianity of course does believe in יהוה as the Creator and Eternal Father but also Yeshua as the Messiah (being one huge difference). They do read the tanakh but have no real understanding of it because they do not adhere to the laws given in it, Making them a lawless people, thinking Yeshua said not to obey it anymore. It's sad, but I pray that if they truly love יהוה that they will come to know the Torah fully and learn to follow in His ways. No, were not the same, but Christ is the fullfilment of yours. Mostly the Old Testament are the same. Especially the first five books of Moses. Both Jews and Christians had access to the dead sea scrolls. It has way more in common and says the same thongs than not. And the old testament, or Torah don't have that specific name in their books, but they talk about him all over the place. You obviously don't believe this, but we believe, or more so, we know that Jesus is still to this day the king if the Jews. He is the king, the savior Jews still believe hasn't come here yet. It appears it is because Jews are expecting a political king. But if you studied every prophecy that talks about the the Jewish Messiah, you would clearly see it was and is Jesus. Many Jews in the past few decades have been doing just that to the extent there are groups that call themselves Jews for Jesus. And he came to save the world. Jews are still looked at as the original chosen of God, but as Jesus says, he has come to save the world. That gentiles (all non Jews) have been adoped as children of God and have all the rights, privileges, promises and inheritance as the Jews. Back as it says in your own Torah, they didn't recognize him. Their hearts have been made cold towards their own messiah. But in the end, first, every tribe returns to Israel . I don't know if that means every individual, or just every descendant of one. And Jews of all striipes have been returning in the last ten to twenty years. I am a Jew that converted to Catholic Christianity. I must correct you. The Old Testament is exactly the same in Judaism as it is in Catholic Christianity. Protestant Christians have removed some books, but what they have left is exactly the same old testament as our Jewish holy Scriptures. So you are very wrong in that assumption. It is not because Christians were “taught that“ it is because it is a fact. Christianity grew out of Judaism, and in that sense they are very closely united. All of the Old Testament is included in Christianity. Judaism of today, however, is not even close to the Judaism that was during the biblical times. So while they are indeed, separate religions, now, their origins were the exact same.

As a Christian I must agree; Judaism and Christianity are not the same. However, I must ask a question of Linda Strauss: How does the Tanakh and Christian Old Testament differ, other than different organization? I have a copy of the Tanakh on the shelf here. The title page Identifies 1999 Edition, published by The Jewish Publication Society of Philadelphia. The entire book is translated into English but the translators are not listed.
Looking over the table of contents, I see no overwhelming surprises. The first five books are the same.
The Prophets are in a differnent order, but I see nothing not in the Christian Bible.
The Writings, in a different order, but the same titles.
A major difference is the interpretation of some passages. Orthodox - classical(?) - Jews do not recognize Jesus but do accept some prophesies speak of the coming Messiah - Mashiach.
Christians read these same passages and see Jesus as that coming Mashiach.
That is clearly a difference in interpretation here and both 'sides' (I really don't like that usage) agree that is the point of contention.

Which "the Christian bible" are you referring to? There is no such thing as "the bible". There have been multiple Christian bibles/canons throughout history and none of them match each other nor has one ever been demonstrated to be authoritative. This is demonstrable as nearly every version is extant.

The (Roman) Catholic Bible includes some writings (books) collectively known as "Apocrypha". The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Has a version adding a number of writings (books) to those found in the version or selection of writings acknowledged by the canon (standard) agreed on by the Council of Nicea in A. D. 325. There are others and I see no reason to list them here.
However, these do not disagree in the writings common to all. So to claim 'differences' is rather misleading, if not entirely false.

Christians may interpret the Bible differently. Reorder some books. And they did add a "new testament" but the actual text is identical. They both are based of the exact same Hebrew. This video is so monumentally incorrect. Please point to a single difference in actual text, not interpretation
Via the 'Septuagint'. The NT is in Greek, and its authors used a Greek translation of the OT. Therefore, its an interpretive translation to make the OT read more Christological. See Tovia Singer.

I see where you are coming from, but you failed to explain why the two religions are not the same. Don’t label the Torah as the Jewish Bible. Many people don’t know that the Torah (first five books of the Old Testament) is only part of the Hebrew Bible known as the Tanakh, which is an abbreviation of the the three parts that make it up: the Torah, Nevi’im, and Ketuvim. And i’m not Christian, but the Old Testament is the translation of the Hebrew Bible, at least the Protestant Old Testament, Catholics add another 7 books.

I have never heard a Christian say that the Tanakh mentions Jesus (at least directly, though they do believe some of the prophesies are about him), and every Christian I have ever heard from knows that the ‘New Testament’ is not part of the Jewish canon. If any make those mistakes it is important to correct them, but those are not Christian teachings.
I have heard many say (and most I know believe) that ‘Christianity’ is the same as Judaism but with the added belief that Jesus is the Jewish messiah (Greek ‘christos’) and the implications that follow from that. Christians believe in the God of the Tanakh, with their understanding of that God being informed by the teachings of the one they believe to have been the Jewish messiah and his disciples. They hold that Christianity is Jewish in its roots and at its core (all the original disciples and leaders were Jewish and the ‘New Testament’ is written by Jews), and the gentiles were just granted the opportunity to join in the service and worship of the God of Israel (thus blessing all the nations of the earth through Abraham) because the Jews rejected the messiah, though he will reign over the world as the king of Israel from Jerusalem when he returns.
As far as needing to be saved, I don’t understand your point; Christians do not hold that anyone should have whatever religion they want, and so only Christians need to be saved (surrender to and be
forgiven by God for their sins), but that everyone needs to be saved, and that the messiah/Christ is the only way. So if you are rejecting the way to reconciliation with God by taking a different ‘religion’ instead, that is ALL THE MORE REASON to repent (if they are right).
Torah is just Genesis-Deuteronomy. Tanakh is what matches the Christian OT.

Only difference is Judaism adds the oral law and relies on the oral law the Talmud as part of the word of God but it’s not. So yes it’s different at the same time. And the messiah is written throughout the Old Testament as prophecy and the prophets have all written about him. However when one relies on the Talmud man’s interpretation of the tanakh as the tanakh one can easily confuse the two. Maybe I sound confusing lol 😆 basically Judaism relies on the tanakh and Talmud, Christian’s rely on tanakh and New Testament, as to which path to follow, Talmud follows man’s traditions and teachings and writings on how to live according to God, and Christian follow New Testament ~ messiahs teachings and writings on how to follow God. The problem is Judaism is against acknowledging the Godhead which is ALL over the Jewish Bible and it’s perceived as forbidden knowledge by rabbis. Just because you refuse to acknowledge these parts doesn’t mean it’s not there. Jews thought messiah meant political freedom and that’s what their worldly flesh body wanted more than anything, so spiritual liberation when the messiah came was absolutely overlooked and missed. Being elected isn’t the same as being saved. There are no Baal worshipers in heaven, and plenty of Jews who were elect worshiped Baal and lesser false gods.

In Genesis 2, God says "Let *us* make man in *our* image." Who is God talking to? Not angels. We know that they didn't take part in fulfilling Creation. Job tells us this in chapter 38. It obviously wasn't humans.
The Tanakh says that no-one has ever seen God, but there are many passages where God is clearly visible, such as when Jacob wrestled with Him, or the various encounters with the Angel of the LORD, who is HEAVILY implied to be God. The Tanakh saying that no-one has ever seen God would make since if there are multiple persons and verse was referring to the Father and/or Holy Spirit.
Even the Sh'ma, the most important prayer in Judaism, uses the word "eloheinu" which is a combination of "shalanu" and "Elohim" which, remember, is plural. So, when Hebrews said, "Adonai eloheinu, Adonai ekhad," what they were saying was "The Lord is our God who is many, the Lord is one." That sounds a lot like a triunity to me. All it's missing is the number three.

My understanding is that the Christian "old testament" is what the Jews taught and believed. So the Tanahk was part of their stuff but the new testament, aka, the stuff about Jesus took precedent.
Though i only this week learned that the tanahk and Old testament are ordered somewhat differently which i don't understand why that would be.

If you’re reading a Catholic Bible, it’s not the same, but a Protestant Bible and the TANAHK are the same stories. What she means is that the interpretation and the translation/transliterations are different. The religion is different, but what a Christian might refer to as the “Old Testament”, a Jewish person might call the “TANAHK”. It is the same in sentiment (although translation/transliteration can slightly alter different readings), but very different in practice.
There are words in the Tanakh that can not be translated into English. And there are words that were translated to support Jesus, even though they do not translate to mean him. Jews are not waiting for G_D to come to Earth because he is not an old man with a long white beard. Jews are waiting for a decedent of David to come to be born.

No there are differences. Christians took Jewish books and translated them differently in some important areas, but often they'll do it one word or phrase at a time so it isn't obvious. The only difference between the Torah and the Christian Old Testament is that the Protestant version excludes a handful of books but the Catholic Bible does not exclude them and also the orthodox Bible has a few more again and then the Ethiopic Bible has even more books again.

It is not true for every Christian because of how some prefer to translate it.
The religions are vastly different and it comes from ignorance of how the other groups practice. There are sources like the Talmud and Mishnah which Christians do not use. So you're saying your translation makes Jesus out to be God... This is the problem. There are words, phrases, etc. all kver the Old Testament that have been changed to alter the interpretation of the Hebrew and Aramaic. They get away with it because Christians aren't taught to read these languages like Jews are, and because you're told your whole life to avoid the Jewish teachers who could actually teach you the text the right way. The mistakes in Christian translations of the Tanakh are too many to count.

My English Bible says, "The Lord says to my Lord:..."(Ps 110:1). So if anything, there is an issue with the English language here, not so much the "Christian" bible. Jesus is the word of God. He came forth from God the Father. If you look in the Old Testament (Tanak) and the New Testament (Gospel) which were 600+ years BEFORE the Quran you would see that God always needs a blood sacrifice to wash our sins away brother/sister. In the Old Testament they used to have to sacrifice animals to wash their sins away, and in the NEW TESTAMENT Jesus was the ultimate blood sacrifice. Jesus was MEANT to die, so why would He save himself if that is what would save us? The Quran has no blood sacrifices to wash sins away. You cannot say that the 2 books who were before the Quran (The Tanak and Bible) are corrupt because the Quran literally TELLS you to read the Torah and the Injīl (gospel) in Surah 3:48, 5:46, and more. So brother/sister read your book and get out of your family tradition. Every thing that we are taught is not always correct. God would not permit a man 53 year old man (Muhammad) to marry and sleep with a 6-9 year old girl (Aisha)😢 God also would never promote Jihad and the killing and torturing of nonbelievers. What is written different between the Torah and Tanahk that separates from the Old Testament in the Bible?
No, were not the same, but Christ is the fullfilment of yours.
Mostly the Old Testament are the same.
Especially the first five books of Moses.
Both Jews and Christians had access to the dead sea scrolls.
It has way more in common and says the same thongs than not.
And the old testament, or Torah don't have that specific name in their books, but they talk about him all over the place.
You obviously don't believe this, but we believe, or more so, we know that Jesus is still to this day the king if the Jews. He is the king, the savior Jews still believe hasn't come here yet. It appears it is because Jews are expecting a political king.
But if you studied every prophecy that talks about the the Jewish Messiah, you would clearly see it was and is Jesus.
Many Jews in the past few decades have been doing just that to the extent there are groups that call themselves Jews for Jesus.
And he came to save the world.
Jews are still looked at as the original chosen of God, but as Jesus says, he has come to save the world.
That gentiles (all non Jews) have been adoped as children of God and have all the rights, privileges, promises and inheritance as the Jews.
Back as it says in your own Torah, they didn't recognize him. Their hearts have been made cold towards their own messiah.
But in the end, first, every tribe returns to Israel .
I don't know if that means every individual, or just every descendant of one.
And Jews of all striipes have been returning in the last ten to twenty years.

Israel Jews will turn in overwhelming numbers and recognize their own messiah.
And one last thing. We don't think you should believe in Jesus for your savation to eternal life in Gods kingdom.
We think and hope not just you, or "we" don't believe just you needs to believe in Jesus for your salvation, we believe everyone needs to believe in the suffering, death and resurrection in order to pay for our sin and represent the good we didn't do.
He is the Lamb of God, the final blood sacrifice that can pay for all our sins and take all our punishment. And every human must pay by spending eternity in not a good place.
But because of who he is, what he did and his blood was exceptable an powerful enough to forgive cover over anything.
You see, he knew non of us could ever hold up all of his commandments.
So through his grace, he gave a way out. You just need to believe in him. As hard as it is to believe, its free
Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by Grace (unearned merit) your are saved and this is not of your selves, it is a gift from God so no one can boast.
