- When German/French due Fabrice Morvan & Robert Pilatus embarked on a music career they were not expecting their first single "Girl you know it's true" to go straight to the top of the charts, let alone land them Grammy awards, American music awards and all that comes with overnight success. The problem is Rob & Fab held a closely guarded secret with their music producer Frank Farian. A secret so mind-blowing they were forced to return their grammy awards. The biggest twist was finding out that this story embroiled a kid who would grow up top become president of Def Jam records.

That's because Boney M. really sang. Only Bobby Ferrell, the male dancer of the group, was lip syncing to Frank Farian's voice. So no, it was not the same.
That's why Boney M were able to go on tour to different countries like Russia for example. Cause the women of the group could really sing, unlike Milli Vanilli. In fact, Frank Farian told Milli Vanilli to *not* do a tour, because he knew the risk of them exposing themselves. But Rob and Fab didn't listen to him.

Us Baltimoreans knew it was all a fraud. The Numark was a Baltimore rap group established in mid 80’s. One of the producers (DJ Spen) became a member of the popular House group- The Basement Boys who produced Crystal Waters “Gypsy Women” & “100% Pure Love.”
Fab said in an interview that Frank was planning to do Lip Sinching from the start before he even met them, and that he played them an instrumental version of "Girl You Know It's True" for them, and that if he knew how the equipment worked at the time, he would have noticed that the vocal tracks were muted.
The fact that Frank did ANOTHER lip sinching band BEFORE Milli Vanilli further suggests that lip sinching was Frank's plan from the start.
Frank claims that he only decided to do the lip sinching after he heard Rob and Fab sing, but Fab says that Frank never even heard them sing and never even gave them a chance to record.
