Allbirds is listed as the world’s most comfortable shoes and said to be more luxe than Yeezy’s - valued at over $4 billion, a rarity in the footwear industry.
Its shoes can be spotted on the feet of the biggest leaders in Silicon Valley, from Google’s co-founder to Twitter’s former CEO, and a wide range of celebrities, from Oprah Winfrey to former President Barack Obama.
And it all started with a professional soccer player whose World Cup dreams were cut off, before coming up with the idea behind Allbirds. Not knowing anything about shoes, it would take 200 prototypes and dodging a questionable deal for the company to take flight.

The average American buys 8 pairs of shoes a year? What? I thought I was being hoity-toity buying a pair every year.
I haven't bought a pair of shoes in well over a year if you count slippers, well over 2 if you count outdoor shoes when I buy shoes though I usually drop a few hundred on a good pair of boots like danners, I used to wear nikes but they would wear out in 7-8 months. I have had a pair of danners for over 8 years and still wear them I can get the sole replaced when it wears out for about 150$ vs sneakers where I would pay 60$ every 8 months or so for a new pair.
That can't possibly be accurate...
I buy quality shoes, not fads that go out of style. I probably buy one pair a year. Some of my shoes are twenty years old.
It's actually pretty accurate because you have people that buy hundreds of pairs every year. I'm a sneakerhead and I would say 8 is a pretty fair number for me.
@@kevinclear4007 Then you are wasting money. Even with summer flip flops and winter boots, I am sure I dont buy more than two pair a year, maybe three if you count a pair of slippers for Christmas. Granted women buy more but 8 seems excessive.
How is this the first time I ever hear about these..?
same i gotta get some
My sister recommended these shoes. I bought 3 pair of the wool runners. As a tourist I wore them & walked all over Tuscany & Paris not to mention the treks through several airports. I recently bought a pair of the wool loungers. These Allbirds shoes are definitely comfortable on my fussy feet. They support my arches which makes me walk straighter & in turn eases stress on my back. I highly recommend them and will continue to purchase these shoes in the future.
here your sister is the motivator .
Yes making things the old fashion way is easier and cheaper but making it in a whole new way is much more better and creative!
New and creative isn't always better, Architecture shows that in many ways, but of course there are almost always better ways of doing things, especially with things like these.
@@leonardonetagamer yes agree!;)

TEACHER: Your ideas are trash
STUDENT: Well, one's trash is another one's treasure
Say the guy who is a teacher 😄😉
Lol literally read this while Macklemore's Thrift Shop played in the background exactly the same time when Macklemore's said one mans trash is another mans come up
And that's why one is a college professor and the other had a $4 billion idea.
Not really, the professor was a former CEO of Walmart, the largest retailers in the world so he surely knew something about products and their selling potential.
It's just that the lesson here is no one's always right. And if your idea is rooted in truth, then it will take off. Don't just belive yourself blindly.

I'm buying a pair now. The fact that they were willing to make their textiles open-source to their competitors really shows their authenticity in reducing the world's carbon footprint.

No wonder I never heard of Allbirds until just right now. Because they didn't have the shoe in Canada until recently.

I just received my fourth pair of Allbirds in the mail yesterday. Allbirds are timeless and for all ages. I will be eighty years old in August and learned about them from my grandson.
Its like it shouldve been made years ago.
Not all teachers are good.
Teachers should encourage their students not discourage.
You can do this.
Funny, never heard of allbirds before. I would actually look at those. Good advertising.
7:49 - "Two years later" and shows 2021 on screen. A 11 year jump, lol.
I've heard of them. I just wish the shoes weren't $100.
I need a nice soft pair for my back issues. Scoliosis and 2 surgeries
Get what you pay for… quality. 100$ is not that much in today’s market also.. stuck in the past sir im sorry
$100 is not expensive.
@@mirzaahmed6589 That's if you don't factor in import and shipping fees. Watch the $100 turn to $300.
Well on average it's kinda lower than known brands prices.
@@TsunaXZ yeah i mean it's better to buy one pair every year and a half that's actually sanitary than to buy a pair a year that doesnt remain sanitary
Wonder if the teacher knows he's a billionaire now. If the teacher does, he's probably kicking himself as he could have been an investor.
Yes right, he got the first chance lol.
He definitely knows schools always brag that they had someone famous that went to their school
I'm going to try a pair, thank you Tim and associates 😊
Got a pair of Wool Runners
in 2017 and those are still some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.
Awesome I am so happy for you. Well done. I am touched by your story. I always gave up when I got bullied but you didn’t. You kept on going and made it happen. I am so proud of you. I am definitely buying some of your shoes after watching this video. I am glad that you are passionate about our environment. I am too. The fact that they made their materials open source - 👍
Think about everything that never was because the inventor was told:
"You can't do that."

There’s a typo at minute 07:51, the year should be 2012 and it shows as 2021.

Goes to show everyone that letting others shoot your ideas or dreams down is not in your best interests . "Have a go" is a great Aussie saying . Living with regret is worse than failing.
These guys are lucky that the wool idea wasnt stolen by the guy wanting to deal in the early stages.... they must have patented it.
Great using eucalyptus end sugar cane too. Both in large amounts in Australia.
For decades everyone knew that Ugg boots made from sheep hides are so comfy was an Aussie product. Some nasty USA thieves patented the name Ugg ( stole it ) it and have caused so many small businesses here to go bankrupt.
Originally eskimos and other snowbound countries , plus American Indians would have made these foot coverings.
So really the patent for this is taking an ancient idea and making money on others ideas.
Greed always corrupts.
This guy had an original idea so he deserves all the kudos and rewards for his hard work.
School will never decide your future only you will decide your future
True! 😀
Agreed
I’m not really into shoe fashion/trend etc except running shoes that I really invest in since it’s necessary to avoid injuries. So this is the one being copied by China etc and being sold everywhere here in our country. Would definitely check this out especially I can feel the pain on my feet since I mostly use flat sneakers when I go out.
I almost thought the beginning was a sponsor...
Great story about the wool shoes.

It has never bothered me. I have spent a lifetime buying unbranded clothing and shoes. They are more widely available than branded stuff.
Imagine football kit shoes made of wool !!!! Coming from a football captain.
making shoes out of sugar.... now you can really eat your shoe when your hungry enough (bad joke i kn0w)
😂 actually, it’s cute!
Isn't a "wool fabric" for shoes called felt? Pretty sure wool was felted and made into shoes historically speaking (but without the modern tech)...?
is it waterproof?
This is a great video! I shared it to Sara Chrisp another New Zealand entrepreneur.
If I may add, I'm building a small scale chemical free leather tannery
Time to buy myself an allbirds shoe.
never heard of these. interesting
Depending on the context, the professor’s advice is probably the best. All of you are focusing on the fail part, but if you focus on the fact that the professor said to put the idea into ACTION, then he gave Tim an infinitely better chance to succeed.
wool shoe sound amazing and very cool
Bro no one is talking about the fact that this is the smoothest sponsor transition ever!

Haha. I see.
s it says on the screen, it is TIME magazine, NOT TIMES magazine as the narrator says at least twice. I think there is a Times Magazine but its is part of the New York or London Times or both, not Time/Life publishing.
Your best video yet
I have not heard if this brand before!😱
Dude stomped his teacher.
The world will be ok with more entrepreneurs who are thinking of more sustainable ways to make products without polluting the earth and this gives me hope.
good job.
I remember being in the 3rd or 4th grade. Our teacher asked us to come up with an invention. I was either lazy or couldn't come up with one. I am 68 today, but I remember her suggesting that I invent some sort of tweezer that People could use to pick up peas on their plates. I don't know what I said, but giving her a look that could melt butter.
I love it when people call your idea 💡 ridiculous , & it , & you won’t amount to anything , & you don’t listen to those losers & you go out into the big bad world 🌎 & pitch your idea’s to big CEO’s of companies trying to get some sort of a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel which gives you the opportunity to keep at it till one of those big companies see’s something in your idea & business sense , so good that they want to throw 💰 at you to get you up & 🏃♀️ with it all the way to the bank. Before too long you’re idea becomes a household name & your product brings in the big bucks for you , so much so before too long your a multimillionaire , & then multiBillionaire. It’s not long after that you can rub your success in those doubter’s faces , & loving every minute of it whilst doing it too. lol’s… well done 👍 your shoes must be sooo comfortable for you to become a multi-Billionaire , all kudos to ya legend. Congratulations 🥳👏🤑. You deserve them ( kudos )… cheer’s & Namaste…

8 pairs !! 8 PAIRS! A YEAR?? I am freaking poor. Barely can I break myself to buy 1 pair a year. 2 if I need new work boots. Sugar mama wanted. I cook , sew , mechanic , carpenter by trade, but am told daily I'm an engineer . always thinking.
It's because of the sneakers app that you can buy and sell sneakers. Some people make a decent chunk of change buying shoes and selling them when they are not being sold anymore in mint condition.
So says the man who claims to have a 12 inch weeper. It ain't really so. Just a pile of hyperbole.
"Collaboration" will get you a lot farther than Combat, Conflict, or Competition. Think ... CO-Labor ... going the same direction. Mutuality.
