As a pietenpol builder, there's no way you could build one from zero in 18 months without working on it full time. You're looking at close to 2000 hours (including covering, welding gear and engine rebuild) I have to believe he started with a partially built plane (many give up or die before finishing). Many people take 4-10 years to build the entire thing from scratch.

I’ve seen this power plant at Sun N Fun. It is impressive. If I owned a Part 23 or an experimental aircraft, this would be my engine of choice. Far more superior to what we have had for the last 90 years.

Sounds like they are trying a new revenue stream selling flights for science. In the end space needs to be profitable and viable business. At this point space is for nation states and very rich people, likely for a long time to come. Those two got to the airport in their SUVs with the aircondition on full blast . And if the were to have used an EV it charged from a Coal fire . And likely a Soros paid them and supplied an oil based paint. New paint jobs and replacement of those expensive windows and the clean up prior to pain as well as a weight and balance and any other FAA mandated work will cost them over $50,000 per plane . They will not be able to afford to buy oil for a long time. And thats not to include any lost revenues , pilot wages and damage to the other aircraft in the area . They need some time too! Who ever financed this thing needs to be deported , For example the Soros's

I think 25 years of hard slave labor to pay for damages to these aircraft. I don’t care what others might make about my comment. You people probably have not had to pay for maintainace of an aircraft. If any of the critical sensors were covered with paint rendering the aircraft unsafe for flight. Those sensors will have to be replaced at costs exceeding $20,000 just for the sensors plus labor which could be double the cost of the equipment that needs to be replaced. Loss of service of that aircraft also is something that can be added to the cost of repairs and cleaning of aircraft.

I'm an Aerospace Engineer and Pitts pilot so I very much love aviation. That said, those "Eco-Morons" have good intentions we DO need to take urgent action on climate change.
