The George Mitchell Minstrels - Jazz Is King [1961]
It's 28 January 1961 and the Mitchell Minstrels and Television Toppers do a great Jazz tune. This was part of a bigger 'Jazz, Jazz, Jazz' medley but I've cut out the extraneous songs so we have a complete version of this swinging tune.

The only surviving footage of Kiwi rocker Red Hewitt. His disc 'Robbin' The Cradle' is the earliest local disc we know for sure that was a genuine Number 1 hit here in New Zealand. He mimes to this along with his final disc 'Half Breed'. and is interviewed both times by Brian Henderson.

Rare Kiwi disc, released on Pacific SS.12 in April 1962. Written by young Australian composeress Helen Grover, who had wrote Noeleen Batley's huge hit 'Barefoot Boy' back in 1960. This was originally recorded on Festival by Digby Richards. While it's not a great song by any stretch, I think this version is better than Dig's.

99% of their TV performances were mimed to the original records. For this and another Sullivan appearance, they pre-recorded a special backing track for the show.
