To many false positives. Same with the Ambient Weather model which is almost identical.
I put the detector on the roof. Unfortunately, sometimes it actually catches false positive discharges. I have noticed that when it was indoors, it worked better in this respect.
I just put mine outside today under my weather station. About 2 hours later I got 2 false positives. Did you solve your issue?

A year ago in the spring the battery went flat. I put another one in and same thing. There's been a short-circuit. I had an earlier copy that Ecowitt sent me and I replaced the chip from it and so far it works, but unfortunately in my case the rain gauge after two years in a temperate climate (humid and chilly, foggy winters, sometimes frost) catches failures. Now I have a collar on the funnel and in terms of rainfall readings and connection with the console it works very well.
No information about the rain detection.

Probably not for this the sensor was designed. I didn't try to put it in rockwool.

I just cannot get mine to function satisfactorily, whichever setting i use, on one setting i was getting several ‘rogue readings’, so i reduced the sensitivity then got no reading whatsoever even though there actually WAS lightning-exasperated.
I have a detector inside in a first floor room all the time and it detects lightning strikes (look at data from May 22 - www.ecowitt.net/home/share?authorize=FMD3SJ). However, this is a detached house. My friend also has a problem with the detector, which does not see lightnings despite the fact that it hangs on a pole placed on the roof, but he lives in a single-family block of flats in the city. Perhaps the surroundings are important and some barriers interfere with the reception. Perhaps it is worth asking for a replacement copy under the warranty.

Jeśli stacja ma podobną konsolę jak na filmie i działa w częstotliwości 868 MHz to powinien kontaktować się ze stacją. Konsola musi mieć odpowiednią wersją oprogramowania, update firmware'u, bo kiedy dotarła do mnie nie było jeszcze detektora na rynku.

Thanks for the very informative review of this sensor array. I've backed on Kickstarter Ecowitt's new WittBoy (WS90 + GW2000) sensor/gateway which also has the ultrasonic wind sensor and also has a new haptic rain sensor rather than traditional tip bucket. It will be interesting to see how it compares to my existing setup WH24.
H9ws the kong term reliability? I really want something that will last 10years
I have the sensor for over 2 years and it still works. It is planted in the ground in the garden even in winter when it is sometimes freezing cold.

Found out from a competing company (Ambient Weather)'s soil moisture sensor manual. AD stands for "Analogue to Digital." "The calibration equation is defined as: % Soil Moisture (calibrated) = (Now AD - 0%AD) *100 / (100%AD - 0%AD) Where AD stands for “analog to digital” and is the unscaled digital value measured by the sensor, Now AD is the currently measured AD and the other parameters are described below. "

Dzień dobry. Mam pytanie, bowiem ostatnio dokupiłem sobie czujnik wilgotności WH51, czujnik WH57 oraz czujnik temperatury i wilgotności WH32 do stacji HP2553 z anemometrem ultradźwiękowym, czujnikiem temperatury oraz deszczomierzem (to był taki zestaw) i nie wiem jak podłączyć czujnik WH32. Czujnik wilgotności gleby i detektor wyładowań atmosferycznych podłączyły się w zasadzie same, a czujnik temperatury nie (on oczywiście działa, ale żeby go podłączyć muszę najpierw odłączyć termometr w anemometrze). I o to mi chodzi czy da się zrobić, żeby ten nowy termometr nie zamieniał się z tym w wiatromierzu (chcę, aby ten w anemometrze był tym głównym), a był pokazywany obok po prawej stronie w kółku razem z tym termometrem, który już mam w funkcji zmieniającej się raz ten, raz ten. Próbowałem to już zrobić, ale po trzech godzinach grzebania w tym i w instrukcji, odpuściłem sobie. Bardzo bym był wdzięczny za odpowiedź:)
Oh just a question to ask: How accurate is ultrasonic anemometer vs the 3 cups traditional anemometer because I have seen your graph and I see there is a problem with it? The graph doesn't look smooth for mean wind speed from Ultrasonic vs the 3 cups anemometer, any idea why?
I would say a little bit more accurate and better response time of 4.5 seconds from the ultrasonic compared to about 16 second to other.
I just got the AW 5000 (same as this in the video) and have it directly below my 2902 with wind cups. So far, they track almost perfectly, but the 4.75sec updates of the 5000 (vs 16 secs for the 2902) seem to make a huge difference in picking up gusts. Heck, maybe it’s not just the update period but the sensor itself too! So far so good though, I am thoroughly impressed and wish I bought one sooner! I also own a Davis VP2 6153 but it’s across the yard so can’t do a direct comparison but the 5000 seems closer to the VP2 because of the fast updates (VP2 updates every 2-2.5 seconds)

Just forgot one more thing. Bureau of Meteorology in Australia only update 1 per minute into their old fashion LED console = sample every 5 to 15 seconds from old fashion heavy duty fully metal anemometer (Unfortunately not as good as Davis due to take bit longer to spin up from heavy weight cups). For upload to internet they usually do 10 minutes mean wind speed and maximum gust in the last 10 minutes.
What kind of pc program do you use?
Actually, I don't need a PC app to download data because they are all stored online. However, you can connect the console to a computer via the USB port and download the data using the EasyWeather2 app.

Excellent review! I’m trying to narrow my choices. I don’t administrate an airport or farm for a living so spending a thousand dollars to gain 1% of accuracy would be silly. Just a suggestion, an inexpensive uninterrupted power supply could easily provide backup electricity to the display in the event of a outage.
I think he mention about battery backup in case of power failure to insert the batteries then in the same sentence he said however there is no possibility of battery operation at 13.30 minutes.

I have not had any console flaws for a year and a half of use. Every few months there is a hardware update released.

I don't live in a climate where the air is so dry. My copy measured humidity down to 22%.

Thank you. Yes, I am satisfied with Ecowitt's devices. The WS68 anemometer works fine without any problems do far, but last December I had to replace the battery after a year, because in the absence of sun it runs out faster. This season, however, I noticed the advantage of the ultrasonic sensor during freezing rain. The WS68 vanes have frozen in cold and humid weather and have stopped turning. At the sam time the WS80 ultrasonic anemometer with a heater sent data continuously.

I could not see any calibration as you left it 0%AD at 70 and 100%AD at 500 and magically the moisture went from 76% to 100%. Restart again.It should have read 100% in the wet sand and not 76%
Keep in mind the CEC of the media. Something like sand would never measure 100% and neither would a peat based media. I bet you wouldn’t get over 40% in a soil with perlite.

The data sent to the server lacks information about the nearest discharge. The distance is given for the last recorded event. But it works better than I expected.

Just to be fair, the accuracy of the resolution is 1%. Which makes sense, because its supports integers from 0->100. The accuracy of the instrument might be off. But probably sufficient from what most people would want to do with it.
