By Land or By Sea: A Microadventure
By Land or By Sea accounts my first microadventure conceived as such. I left on a Monday morning from my house, cycling to the Shands Bridge, where I attempted a two mile crossing of the St. Johns River. I aborted the crossing due to heavy currents and crossed the bridge. I spent the remainder of the day hiking around the Bayard Conservation Area, where I spent the night. I returned home the following morning.

    Yellow corn is totally FARB. Only white corn exisisted during the 1860's. Also did you bring along enough stuff??? Age of "FARBY"

      Only white corn in the 1860s, seriously. Thousands of years of cultivation and several varieties and sub-varieties and all the people of the mid19th century could come up with is ONLY white corn. Farby reenactorisms vs research.

    Thank you for posting this video. I consider reenactors as living historians. They are invaluable in passing on information about both the home front and the battlefront.

    First view is straight outta Japan! That's pretty cool that you started a Japan appreciation club at your school! You should have the kids make their own obentos (お弁当)! Please be careful so as not to create any manga geeks. There are too many of those that feel rejected at home and end up moving here. Can you smell the scorn? :D

    Two questions I have: 1.) Cant you simply reapply for JET next year? I wasn't aware it's a one strike and you're out thing. 2.) In the application, did it or did you ever mention any pre-existing Japanese knowledge? I'm curious because I know there is slightly more competition than there was for JET in past years, so maybe a secret to JET's application success is demonstrating preexisting Japanese knowledge? I'm aware knowing Japanese isn't a requirement, but perhaps it's becoming recommended?

  • @ItchyKneeSon

    I started my YT channel to document (poorly) the JET application process as well. And, like you, I failed to make the cut. HOWEVER, I've been living in Japan for about 10 months now and have come to certain realizations about things that can be realized. In college, I got pretty sick of hearing so many people say "I gotta get out of [insert city or state]! Then, my life will be exciting!" Fortunately, I realized that our lives are what we make them, not the place we're in. Appreciate life. ;)

    Maybe this is good for you. There are other ways to Japan, I did not come through JET. If the experience in Arizona was kinda bad for you Japan may be terrible for you. People often come thinking it's all ninjas and zen to find that they are less enlightened than people you may know back home and just like everyone else they are just normal people working everyday. I have lived here for 4 years and have a Japanese family and I am still just another gaijin. Being Japanese is impossible.

    Bummer about JET. But there are other (better) ways to get out here. JET ain't all that! A young japanarchist was also denied by JET back in the day. So? Why not travel for a bit and try to find something? No expectations.

  • @IchigoIchigo3
    @IchigoIchigo3 Před 13 lety

    So is this about you wanting to get to Japan? Have you heard of GoGoNihon? If not maybe you should try them - thats if your just trying to get to Japan and live there regardless if you part of JET or any type of program. I'll PM you with a url if your interested. But I mean I'm not sure how easy it would be to get to Japan through GGN.

    looks like you have a good attitude about not making it this year into JET. Best of luck with your future plans.
