Are you a good person? Not by your own standards, but by God’s, your Creator and Judge. No one is. Repent, confess your sins to God and believe in Christ. Only then will you be justified, at peace with God, free from hell, and you'll live for His glory: czcams.com/video/pYZw0dfLmLk/video.html

That's wonderfully encouraging-and a rare comment, whether positive or not. I delight in making these, but so few people have any grasp of what I might be trying to do. The opportunities for "sharing" (through publications, exhibits, or whatever) are all but non-existent now. Nonetheless, I do sometimes feel tempted to embark on a new series. Thanks again.

23:08 it would be nice if these artworks were credited. Is this Hugh B Cott? Did he make this? There's a credit card in the end, but I can't easily tell which is which.

Sorry for the delayed response. It was unclear to me which images you were asking about. At 23:08, the series of digital montages that appear at the end are works that I myself produced in 2021. They are described in a published essay at <www.academia.edu/105309636/>, but they can also be found online at <northerniowa.academia.edu/RoyBehrens/Montages>. No, they have nothing to do with Hugh B. Cott, as much as I admire his work.

I really appreciate you sharing this lecture and your content, here, and on your amazing blog. This talk clarified and help me see some aspects of creativity in a new way. I have a number of students struggling right now trying to create a epic thesis idea out of thin air and I think discussing the strategy of combing two existing (things) will be freeing.

Thank you, Rebecca. Especially because, as you can imagine, so very few people respond to anything anyone does, so one ends up floating about like that lost luggage that circulates in outer space. Fortunately, we have inner motivations that propel us to keep creating things, to felling our trees regardless if someone is actually there, in the forest, to hear us. Of course, I don't know who you are, but (online snooping) we may both be RISD graduates, and apparently you are a teacher, and we all know what that might entail. I thank you again for your kindness. RB

What wonderful student work! Clearly those students were lucky to have you as a professor. I was lucky too -- waaaay back in the 1980s at UWM. On the first day of class you burst through the door carrying a glass jar with a cocoon inside, stopping to show each of us the wonder of nature as you made your way to the front of the class to start the lecture. That was my first clue it was going to be an amazing semester! Thank you for the positive impact you have had on my design career!

Thank you, Kris. How wonderful to hear from you. I'm sure that in that jar was a cecropia moth, which, believe it or not, we were raising in our East Side apartment on Bellevue. Pretty strange days those were, but with many good memories of teaching. From there I went to Cincinnati, and then back to my own alma mater here in Iowa. I retired at the end of 2028, but I still teach History of Design online for Drake University's retirement-age education program. Thanks again for reaching out. Best Roy Behrens

I enjoyed this series very much. I remember some of the distortions from when I was a young child in school and through college. Always find them fascinating, partially because they would seem to require immense planning and execution. Every time I see the Interstate highway number markings on the pavement, though, I think someone should enlighten the DOT as they obviously aren't aware of anamorphisis.

I'm pleased that people are enjoying these. I'm learning as I go. John, I've been writing about camouflage since c1970 or earlier. The correct spelling is camouflage, but everyone calls it camo, so if they look for "camoupedia," they search instead for "camopedia." Much of my traffic probably gets diverted because there is a far more recent site (about military uniforms only) that cleverly uses the alternate name of camopedia.

12:51 You were doing so well, but your etymology of the term "doughboy" is horsecrap. American infantry were being referred to as "doughboys" in the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). The US Army uniforms at that time, of course, were blue. The truth is that no one has a definitive, authoritative answer to the origin of the term. I also don't know what bakery you've been to but I'm not aware of any olive drab colored dough. As well as variations in color that varied from mustard green to brown.
