Thank you for posting this! I have it somewhere on VHS but no longer have a player so it is so wonderful to be able to watch this program again.

I wonder who are the violinists in the large piece. I think it's Itzhak Perlman but I don't know who the lady is...just a beautiful performance. It evokes a longing inside of me, like a heavenly beckoning...

The violinist is my teacher, Rainer Kussmaul, the most natural musician i have ever experienced.

Excellent introduction but I keep expecting Mr Ustinov to make an hilarious joke or mimicry 😀

Oчень древняя запись, технически неосвершенная во многих отношениях, но всё-таки представляющая интерес. Спасибо за её размещение.

I remember this. Ustinov did one on Mozart and Beethoven also, I believe.

I HAD ALL THREE. Good ol' VHS recorders! Ustinov did a wonderful job of narrating as well. Another series featured the Tchaikovsky Competitions which was also great portrayals of the musicians who have the near-impossible task of making it into the finals.

I watched this show when it originally aired. Thank yor for uploading it. I think the show commemorated Bach's 300th year.
