MONTANA - a fly fishing film
Finally made the trip out west.
This video takes place over 2 separate trips I took to Montana - one in September and again in early October. The days were substantially shorter in October which lead to less time on the water, however the fishing was outstanding. Coming from the east, you just don't have days like these.
Everything they told you about the west is true.

For those who are asking where they are fishing, could be Esquel or close to 7 Laques. Both huge places in Argentina are majestic to fishing in January or February ( summer time )

OMG! That last fish...what a BEAST! Nicely done. Beautiful scenery and gorgeous fish. I agree with a lot of people about the music. But I also understand your reasoning, if you don't like your own commentary when landing your prize. My 2 cents...I would keep it to stuff that is mellow and smooth, to compliment the scenery and the activity. "World Ender" was annoying and just kind of ruined that section of video for me. But the rest was much better.

Well by using google maps and looking for waterfalls in your general area it’s wicked easy for googins to find your spot……I could come fish your numbers tomorrow…..but please enlighten me on how this isn’t spot burning?

So, I have maybe a part of a day of fishing on a road trip through Montana/wyoming around Tetons/yellowstone. Any suggestions on location?
**Hi all you NJ hardcore fly fishing RESIDENTS I no this is a year old but , i am trying to find out how many fly fisherman would like to do a 1 fly competition, or a big fish of the day or most trout caught in a day Competition. *NJ waters* . I see trout `unlimited come in and do a 1 fly competition on private waters were no one else can compete. Same with private waters, not all of us have 2 grand to join a private club yearly. Mainly for South branch section of *Kenlockwood Gorge* and the muskanetcong river and the Pequest, or just maybe the *( GORGE from 8am to 4pm 1 day competition) **If you would like to, in the comments just put , your first name or initials, ya i think it be great. I met many fly fishers from NJ, they all said the same, i never see anything for the public, lets see what the fly Community thinks in NJ.

What river were you fishing?
That stream is beauty and danger all wrapped into one. First time I went there I could believe where it was and what a chore to navigate lol. Awesome video.

The hole at 5 minutes 😂. That whole area, is my playground, meaning I'm just playing around when I go there, because I live here. I actually enjoy interacting with visitors, though most are too stubborn to take advice, even from a local. I've had 50 fish days in that canyon. Cool shots man.
Headed there this September for a month. First time and my wife and I are wide open for any advice from locals
@@Philsherrybowen 😆 you wouldn't believe the day I had there yesterday. I might delete this comment. Snow cone #16 #18 UV payczech #16 #14 I'll say this about the day I had. If you talked to everyone else, you'd think it was slow. Spin fisherman couldn't buy a fish. They are very particular about a perfect drift, they see a lot of casts. I felt greedy after catching about 15 fish, including a bright red 21 inch male, right in front of a guy, so I gave him my spot. Considering he did not produce the same results, and knowing what I know, I concluded that this area in particular is going to reward your skill level in a practically measurable way. Keep that rod bent. 🏔️🏞️
@@Philsherrybowen that's awesome you're coming here for a month in September. One of my favorite things in September is terrestrial dries on stillwater. They seem to come up shallow and cruise, can make for some great sight fishing if you can get the wind to cooperate. Great videos btw, enjoy the vibe. Like how you treat the fish too, great work man.

So good man. Obviously, beautiful fish and great job making it happen in a challenging season. Some of the still shots that open each segment are just truly incredible, had to pause to freeze it for a few seconds around the 13 min mark. I love the (lack of) dorky voiceovers that dominate lots of fly fishing films. Music selections were great and the edits ( in time with the meter of the track) were really tasteful. If I had any sort of constructive feedback, it might be from a longing for some natural audio to make its way in. I have to imagine with high winds that camera mics might get blown out but either way... tremendous work Dante!

Unfortunately with CZcams compression and filming in general - it’s super hard to capture the grandeur of a place as beautiful as Patagonia. On your feedback - I truly would love nothing more than natural sounds. The truth is, I can’t shut up when I have a fish on. I can’t stand my own voice and comments so I just keep it out. Thank you again for the comment! It means a lot.

@@25falcons I didn’t have room to bring 2 rods so I just brought the 9’5. Sometimes dry dropping, sometimes under an indi - just depending on water type.

Went to Montana for the first time this past July. Immediately got Covid. lol. Besides feeling like shit the whole time I did enjoy fishing the little creeks back up in the mountains around Paradise and St. Regis, though the biggest fish I landed was a 14” cutt. Did spend a day on the Clark but only landed one fish all day lmao. Did hook an 18ish cutt that broke off at the boat. I’m ready to start tying again to get ready for next season now that bird hunting is pretty much wrapped up here in Wisconsin, can’t wait to get out again, I’ll probably be dodging ice once it opens up again here in January!
Same thing happened to me when I visited the Shenandoah valley for some brookies. Sick as dog. Made it as far as I could but was very limited. Before that magical cuttie day a 14” cut would’ve been a dream of mine. I didn’t ever expect to net a 22” Yellowstone cuttie. There was also a section of this video where I hiked deep to an alpine lake in search of golden trout - I found them. But they wouldn’t bite. Had all of this beautiful footage I had to scrap.
