It was on that day, mr potato head realized how meaningless life truly was. Here he was, saying the same canned dialogue for the 2000th time, bolted in place, and destined to continue to do so until he is inevitably dismantled and scrapped for parts. No free will, no rights, no ability to choose what to do and what not to. A slave to a series of ones and zeros on a computer.

I never thought I'd get emotional at the thought of Mr. Potato Head becoming self aware. This would make a good sentient AI story, tbh. The ear kept him non-sentient. Once he removed it, he learned the truth.

Im surprised they don't just have a separate emergency audio file and eye monitor movements for when this happens. I get that with a loose part, he doesn't move for safety's sake, but I'm just surprised they don't make like a secret scene where his mouth or other parts don't move, you just see his eyes dart around and he says through his teeth something along the lines of "oh no, I drop my ear, no body move a muscle, you might step on it and break it" or something like that.

I think I know why he stops when he drops his ear. I think there is like some safety scanner thingy where the stand he stands on so when it detects movement it stops so the person near him does not get slapped injured or maybe even death so where he drops his ear the scanner detects the ear thinking it is a human so he stops so the person does not die but hay that's just a theory a Disney theory thanks for reading (shout out to the person who gets the ending)

I saw a launch from Disney purely by accident. It was one of the missions that had been delayed numerous times and we had forgotten about it. Just happen to be looking in the right direction at the right time when it took off. Amazing sight.

They should have animated him saying “Can someone help me put my ear back on?” And have a worker there waiting for the ear thing to happen.

well its because the software that allowed that stopped working properly and they had to get rid of that and now mr potato head can no longer take off his ear

This is absolutely hilarious but in seriousness I suspect there’s a pressure or weight sensor in the base around him in case a guest climbs over the railings and tries to climb on the animatronic. The animatronic is probably programmed to freeze immediately if the sensor goes off so it doesn’t smack a kid in the head or something. The dropped ear probably set the weight sensor off. So even though it looks broken, this might actually be safety features working exactly as they should (Minus the ear drop, which was definitely not supposed to happen)
