We start early in the season, In hopes of getting done early. We gambled & came out a winner! We haven't had a decent rain in months! Starting early allowed our sorghum to grow good size before the drought!

Looks good my friends! I have a small patch of sugar cane in my mini-orchard in Florida but it doesn't produce enough to be worth processing. But if I ever get serious about it I do love your setup.
I would like to try growing sugar cane again, but I know it would be a bigger song & dance compaired to sorghum...We hope to add a screened in porch to our house next year. That way I can cook this stuff outside... That will make it better. Thanks

not really, 1 hundredth of an inch... grass is brown & crunchy.The gardens are hanging on for right now...

Its been a good harvest despite the drought. Planting early saved the sorghum I guess. The stalks are small but giving some sweet juice!Thanks God Bless

Nice temp but look at that humidity!
That's most every morning... Usually in the mid 70's, The heat index is triple digits in no time. The other half I didn't mention, was the wind. Usually the wind is calm unless it going to rain in the hottest months. The wind has been blowing for days! If it would just rain... Hmm!

My manual grinder came off of ebay. Its a cheap made one. I found a ebayer with good feedback...
When you sift it whats left i grits
Pretty much coarse/grit size & husk...,You can get coarse or fine strainers. Some will crush to a fine meal, some will be larger... I sift the fine stuff off, & regrind the coarse or grit size again. Throw off the husk & junk that don't grind...
Have you ground it to make grits it's so good I ordered some but I just got my seeds to plant for next year but I'm going to order me a big bag till I plant it
I bought up some grits & haven't ate them all yet...I just made cornmeal or cracked corn for the chickens...Thanks
I also planted some fall tators, so far not looking good. But the heat has really settled in down here. So not expecting much.
Well were in the middle of the heat here. August is usually hot, humid, & dry...This crazy break in humidity had to be celebrated! lol. If the taters don't rot from the heat (i used some sulfur powder) They should produce something...Good luck to you on making taters!

I just replanted mist of my garden as I've havested most already,,The westher hot here in Augusta (Harlem area) but we have been getting lots of rain making it favorable to start again for nov harvest,but the heat index is hard on a 65 year old guy ,I guess all you need is a weak mind !!! To get through it so to eat well at Thanksgiving

Im going to try to plant potatoes for fall as i just havested around 150 lbs of yukon golds here down in ga,,they worked out good,, i wanta put in around 200 ft ,,goin to try Aldi's potatoes as ive had luck with them after washing them and they letting them eye out
Sounds good!I hope your Blessed with a great crop! I stopped in at a Walmart coming back from a Dr. app... I knew they would be cheaper than in our little town. It's a gamble hot as the ground temp is, but it will be worth it if they make!

I could sure use some of that humidity! Here in Idaho the locals, and local wannabes, complain that 20% humidity is too high. Personally I have no problem operating that manual backhoe in triple digit temps with that low humidity, but I need to keep reminding myself to drink a LOT of water. But then I'm still acclimated to Florida climate (TS this weekend, apparently - my Fla garden can use the rain).
Sounds like you will have more than enough rain! Yep you know that feeling! Low humidity cool nights is amazing in August! I could stand another day or two like that...Enjoy the weather up there, don't let the Ole manual backhoe get you down!

Good tips Brett. I try to let the plants tell me what they want, and some times I even listen.
I had this laid out for my church garden group. They ask several questions about taking care of a garden, & making it produce.. its easier to just speak it on camera, than to make a handout & just have to talk it thru anyway...
