Husband, father, friend, pickleball coach, pickleball player, and mental game coach.
I grew up in an environment of education and sports. Coaching and teaching are in my blood! My parents also exposed my siblings and me to various sports, and I tried almost all of them and practiced often with my older brother.
My education is in sports and exercise science. I taught tennis as my career for nearly 20 years before I made the complete switch to pickleball.
I got involved in pickleball several years ago when some gentlemen from our athletic club introduced it to me. I immersed myself with studying and playing the game I had a newfound passion for. I played my first tournament, and I was completely hooked! From that time on, I've sought to combine my passion for teaching and coaching by learning all I can about the game and by sharing my insights with others.

Winning pickleball shot! Games with the guys in Cincinnati.
Fun winning shot by Domingo in this video.
He took a low ball and somehow managed to sneak it thru the middle. It's not easy to do!

Linda is a tremendous tennis player who recently started playing pickleball for fun. I gave her a lesson for the first time to work on some dinks and strategies therein. Linda was also joined by her brother Jimmy, who is a stellar tennis player in his own right. He is a newer pickleball player as well, with about 6 months of experience. I had fun teaching the "Game of TENS" to Linda and Jimmy, ...

Ha! Not my best, I admit. Better content coming, I promise! 👌🏼
Wow, amazing accurate shot!!
I had a good ball feeder. It helps!
Tell us more about your custom orthotic insoles. . .
I got them from a local pedorthist (not quite the same thing as a podiatrist.)
Pretty biased review from a Selkirk ambassador. Selkirk is overrated and overpriced. Plenty of other options out there that are objectively better.
Sure, there are other good paddles out there. Better for me? No. Keep in mind, I never said I tried all paddles on the market. I am unapologetically a Selkirk player. So of course I use one of their paddles. I've found them to be a superior company in many ways. That's my take. It's ok if someone else has a different take.
So... Selkirk?
I mean, was it too obvious? 😂
Thanks for sharing !
So I am newer to watching pickleball. Are there amateur brackets that run along side the pro tournament. Or are these the qualifier rounds to get to the pro tournament?
The qualifier rounds are what one plays to make it into the main draw. There are also many amateur level events that run at the same time.🙂
Hi Daniel, This is Bernadette Montgomery. I just wanted to tell you that I am still doing these arm stretches that you taught us at a clinic my husband and I took with you in Sanford, FL. Feb, 2021.
I have been trying this for a few weeks and it works. I hit way more out, in the net or get attacked than ever. Fantastic!
Great tips! How do you like that Vanguard?
It's good. A tad soft coming from the Power Air, but definitely a solid paddle.
Check out Crown pickleballs. Similar to the Vulcans . Use code PB15
What are the best pickleballs?
Honestly, I gave these a shot, and I didn't like them. They are fast, but they feel like marshmallow. But the worst part is they warp so quickly. My first ball warpped within 2 rounds ( not 2 games). The quality control also seems very lacking; there's air bubbles in every ball and the holes aren't cleanly cut. There's a lot of loose plastic on some holes. The characteristic is similar to selkirk pro s1, which actually last longers.
This new ball seems defective Bad bounces and out of round Must have paid the pickleball people alot of money
Yuk. One should not be able to so easily push in a recess on a ball. NOT good!
I press firmly. 🙂
Yes better than a Franklin (both suck) but not as good as a dura….bring back the dura!
Inclined to agree
@@danieljhoward002 ball feels heavy
It's an OK ball that isn't anything special whatsoever. It's very similar to a number of other balls such as CORE, Gearbox GB1, Vega 40, Crown, etc. Durability is just OK, so far I'm getting between 1.5 and 3 hrs out of each ball before small cracks start to appear near holes. And this is under optimal conditions as I've only used it indoors (true hard court surface).
Good thoughts
I commented on this ball to Vulcan about the "inked" logo n wears off in 2 games.. Then you have NO idea what brand it is!!?? It plays OK nothing special but they said they are correcting the Logo issue... At $4.50/$5.00 per ball I'd like to know what ball I'm pulling out of my bag.. Franklin is still #1 from my perspective... Haven't hit the new Selkirk yet...
It seems most balls have a logo that wears off quickly. Other than Franklin X, which has the X embedded into the ball itself. Will be interesting to see how they change the Vulcan logo.
@@danieljhoward002 I take a q-tip n spray paint on it. Then swab the inside of the ball.. Lasts until the ball cracks..
Thanks for the review, albiet short tested. It was obvious that ball lost a lot of plastic during your short test cycle. Did any of them warp? I just returned a dz Pro S1's, as 2 of 3 warped within an hour of training this morning. I don't plan on playing on the PPA tour, so at 63, a new X40 works fine indoors on outdoor surface.
They did develop some flat spots, which would explain some of the odd bounces off the court surface and paddle face. But not as bad as I thought. We are testing them for longer periods of time. They do crack.
At that price, I rather just play the pro S1. The pro S1 spin a bit nicer imo
Definitely a different flight.
At $5.00 a ball, no thanks
It's a hefty price tag, no doubt.
TY
From a farm boy. When you put lead or tungsten tape on the paddles -- use a rubber band AROUND the paddle face to KNOW where to place the lead/tungsten tape so the tape is evenly applied. You can usually adjust to the logo on the face -- THEN start the tape at the rubber band and work down -------- THEN you have both sides the same. When you seat the tape or esp. the edgeguard use an old sock or clean rag to seat the tape firmly to the paddle. My lead tape from golfing is about 4 times heavier than the tungsten tape and much cheaper. Take care working with lead tape. JJ
How much weight did you put on the Omega Max?
0.4 ounces
Can't be unbiased wearing a Selkirk t-shirt
Looks good!
where to put the tape? how much to use? what areas to put on the paddle for speed, strength, finesse??
Watch the video
those don't look like blazepods.
Good stuff.

Meh
I really feel bad for you bro.
What if the game extends further? Plus, when I ref, I tell them if they signal in/out that they either hold it up longer or make it visible to everyone especially me.
I'll do a video on numbers 12 to 20. How about that?
@@danieljhoward002 , in most cases, 15 could be enough...but knowledge is power 😉
Daniel, Nice to see a video on this. I grew up around many hearing impaired people, so I used to use ASL. However, I've found that since most people don't know ASL, they get confused by ASL 6-10...especially 6, since it's easily interpreted as 3. At least around here, in noisy environments, I've found just subtracting five from the score (E. g. holding up two fingers for seven, four fingers for nine) while also saying the score loudly (exaggerating lip movements) and making sure I'm looking at my receiver (and not the ball /ground) tends to be more quickly understood. I could also see teaching ASL counting ahead of the game could work, too. <3
Nice idea but using two hands is best since not everyone knows official sign language.
They can be taught. And where would you put your paddle and the ball?
Thank you!
You're welcome!

I like them a lot! I also like kettle bells for strength and balance! Good on you for dropping some weight and getting in better shape!
This was great!
Thank you!
Dude...you are a genius. Thanks
You have to watch the video to see what the issue is here. The points about the loose net are interesting, but not really relevant to the question here. The rule for a ball spinning and coming back over the net is that you can break the plane of the net to hit it, which the player on the right (see video and picture above) did. The ball bounced on the player on the right's side with enough spin to go back on its own to the left side of the net. "For fun and to win the point" the player on the right correctly hit the ball towards the net from the player on the left's side. I've never seen this done. Most people would just push the ball into the player on the left's feet. Still, all within the rules to hit the ball back at the net. If this had just hit the net and dropped on the player on the left's side, then the player on the right would win the point. However, the player on the right hit the ball back towards the net (again, perfectly within the rules) but it caught the net and dropped over on his own side! It seems to me that the rule is now clear: the player on the right did not properly convert the ball into a winning shot, and so LOSES the point. He hit the ball onto his own side of the net! We've all probably hit a ball with the edge of the paddle and it's spun onto our side of the net, and we lose the point.
we had the same issue when the wind and a combo of back spin caused the ball to travel back over the net without being touched ...point to the receiving team or serving team
I'm afraid that isn't the point that is being made here. The ball going over and back is commonplace and we knew that going in, which is why I hit the ball as I did. The question is, since my ball pushed the net out of the way and touched MY side of the court surface, is my shot still considered in or is it out?
How is that legal. You can't cross the plane of the net.
You can in the case in which your opponent's shot goes back over.
See rule II.I.1.
You win the point. It is a good play, but be cautious doing such with a temporary net that the ball does not hit the lower horizontal cross support bar, else it would be a let and ruin a great shot (happened to me).
This was going to be my reply. If it pushed the net far enough away that the ball didn't touch the crossbar...lucky you!
Why did you hit it back into the net.....you hit the ball as in normal play and you could have had the point
🙂 First, just for fun! Second, I knew he couldn't return it. Third, I would be guaranteed to win the point. Fourth, I had no idea the net could move so far that the ball could drop to my side. I was shocked! Mostly, it was just for fun!
