Step into a piece of history with our walkthrough of a custom-built Peak Mountain Camp! Inspired by the rugged and efficient sheep camps found across the western prairies, deserts, and high elevations, this camp combines the best materials and practices for a durable, well-thought-out living space. Imagine living in a compact 10’-14’ space for years-these old sheep camps were built between the 1950s and 1980s and are still in use today, showcasing their incredible durability.
At Peak Outdoors, we've learned from these timeless designs to create a camp that will last a lifetime. With a simple design and minimal moving parts, this camp ensures longevity. The wood-burning stove and gas light keep it cozy in cold months, while the high R-value insulation retains warmth and cool throughout the year.
This camp is equipped with a 3-burner cooktop, oven, small fridge/freezer, single sink with hand pump, and a 42-gallon fresh water tank. Powered by 200 watts of solar and 4 220 amp 6-volt batteries, the LED lights inside and out ensure efficient energy use. We have never run into much trouble. We generally will work with whoever you bank with. That usually works best for our customers.

Does the top of the wood stove get hot enough to cook on?
It does. Our customers cook soups and tinfoil dinners regularly on them.

I agree with your statement “Never towed anything that pulled better,” I have driven Class A’s, AB’s and C’s. I have towed several different travel trailers. I never owned or towed 5th wheels. My first tow with our camp was 1.5 K miles in a blizzard and snow storms back to Indiana. Everything from our one ton GMC and Camp worked and towed beautifully. A great test for a first trip out.
Another amazing build! ✌️ I'm very curious where the extra 2100 pounds comes from! On your specs info, you're showing the S22 at 5300 pounds and there's not many additions! The S20 is 4800 pounds!
Our apologies that information might be a little dated. We gather weights for each camp for vin number assignments. If I had to guess, those figures on the website are probably from some early models that we built that had different frames and running gear. Since we have standardized our frames to be the same in materials as our bigger camps.

I like this. Would need 1 with a outdoor shower hook up with on demand Hot H20. And a spot for a compost toilet. And a grey water holding tank. Most place id go. Cant just dump grey on the ground. Plus id just need 1 single size mattress. If you could build 1 with those options. Id be buying 1 soon.

with winters being rather severe in the mountain west, how do you keep the water tank from freezing and bursting?
We have our tanks molded for us so they are pretty thick. Match that with good insulation values and you are pretty safe. Not saying it couldn’t happen but as long as some common sense is used you’ll be fine.
We have had our camp (X30 Solitude) down to -17°F with no water tank or holding tank issues.

Nice trailer. Love all the thought put in it. I live in south Texas and have tons of ideas. We don’t need a furnace. I want to design my camp to have AC but needs to be window unit style so it’s easily replaceable because they only last a few years down here. The rooftop units are to expensive and leak water over time.

I’ll have to see what floor plans you have. I’m planning on spending $70,000 + next spring on a Lance 2185 but if you all could do a triple bunk with a queen and a dinette that can turn into a bed then I’d rather go with a trailer custom built by you guys

Thanks to your efforts we sure have. No matter where we are or what the weather our camp is our lovely little home. Everyone wants to see the inside. They always comment how beautiful the interior is, the quality of materials and craftsmanship . The wood stove and gas light they are all astounded by. Everyone leaves with that homey warm comfort feeling . It has been worth every penny of our investment. Thank you,
It's good to see a 'basic' camp: we can think about what is left out that we would have to add in. Being shorter, I would delete any overhead cupboards but would want to add your pull-out cupboard unit(s). I would not need 3-person sofas.

In the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s we warmed up our camper with a small propane wall light for 3+ seasons👍but I would definitely miss a bigger 6 cu ft fridge and a bathroom.
They work pretty darn good.

Is there a 2nd exit in case of fire? How effective are the solar panels when they are mounted vertically and is there an option to have them mounted on top of the camp to get more juice?
Yes each camp is required to have 2 exits. Man door as well as an egress window. The solar is very efficient being in a fixed position but we can add adjustable mounts allowing them to be tilted. We try to avoid as many holes as possible on the roof of the camps as to avoid any potential water intrusion.

Have a few questions... 1. What about a galvanized frame for lighter weight? 2. Better suspension to take it deep in the woods? 3. What is the insulation value in the walls and ceiling? A wood-burning stove keeps condensation very low if it's well insulated. 4. How about more solar panels on the roof and more lithium batteries? 5. A propane generator for backup to charge the batteries? The work you do is fantastic, and for me to be able to make my own floor plan with your help is great. I hope to hear from you.
1. I don’t imagine that the losses in weight on the frame would be enough to make any noticeable difference. I could look into further to see what kind of weight you would save and if it would be worth the added cost to use a galvanized. 2. There are other suspension systems on the market that are geared more towards off-road but the downside to those style systems is if an issue ever does arrive you will be very limited on availability of parts. The leaf sprung setup is the most widely used suspension making parts readily available just about anywhere. 3. Roof has R19 insulation as well as the floor. The walls are a R7-9. 4. More solar and batteries can be added to any of our camps. We do try to avoid as many holes in the roof as possible to prevent any potential water intrusion in the future. 5. You would be money ahead by just doing more of the lunchbox style generators (Honda 2000) onboard generators are extremely overpriced and wouldn’t be as versatile as a portable generator for a person In the end it is your camp and we will build it how you want it, we just want to make sure you are educated in your decision.
