CAN POSITION BE INSPECTED INPLACE OF SYMMETRY
ASME Y 14.5 2018 version removed the Concentricity and Symmetry. This video will help understanding whether Position is inspected in place of Symmetry. This is the question of all who are refering old drawings or not updated with new release.
It will smooth the Supplier-Customer Relation as well as Internal organisational conflicts without any challenge.
All technical evidences are given caluse by clause from international GD&T standards ISO 1101 and ASME Y 14.5.

      Yes, any CMM software can do it if direct cone measurement command is given. The logic is first without probe compensation feature is created. After that the problem radius is reduced from the entire surface. Regards

  • @mcdoogle274
    @mcdoogle274 Před 7 měsíci

    There are some fundemental mistakes here: 1. You have to understand the difference between concentricity and coaxiality. Both use the same symbol, but in ISO, the symbol usually means coaxiality and it requires the evaluation of the whole length of an axis. But in ASME standards before Y14.5-2018, there was ONLY concentricity, which was mathematically measured DIFFERENTLY from the coaxiality in ISO (see point 2). 2. In ASME, concentricity used to be measured only within a plane section of a cylinder. The section did not need to be a circle, it could be any shape, but there had to be opposing points within the shape. For every set of opposing points, there had to be calculated a mid-point. The set of all mid-points had to be within the tolerance zone of the datum. This had to be true for every section of the evaluated feature. This method sometimes yielded different results than the ISO method. It is very complicated to realize this measurement on a CMM, because it involves a lot of calculation, and I know of NO software that was able to do this out of the box. 3. BUT: In ASME Y14.5-2018, the concentricity was REMOVED from the standard. It doesn't exist anymore, and the use of the symbol is NOT ALLOWED ANYMORE. Instead, you have to use the position tolerance in a similar way as the coaxiality in the ISO standard, which does still exist and uses the same symbol, which could be a little confusing. 4. There are rumours, that even in ISO, within the next few years, the coaxiality symbol could be removed as well, since there had been the mentioned differences in the use between ISO and ASME, and concentricity/coaxiality had been a constant reason for misunderstandings within and among the different standards.

    Magnificent, with good illustrations and live video with indicators! By knowing the sequence of operations performed on this part, preceding this measurement, helps in the understanding. This video is so powerful bc it underlies many of the mistakes made by programmers who are good programmers, but do not always understand the ‘leverage’ effects, measuring a small surface (in relation to rest of the part) and using that plane or cylinder as Spacial/primary datum.

      @@accurateasmeiso4262 thread hole as a datum usually makes the value inconsistent, do we have a method to make the repeatability consistent, is it ok to plug in a bolt so that we can utilize the cylindrical of the bolt as an easy access for the datum?

    • @accurateasmeiso4262
      @accurateasmeiso4262 Před 9 měsíci

      Yes it can be one of them if accuracy permits.

  • @user-nh7gk1bw7d
    @user-nh7gk1bw7d Před 9 měsíci

    Hello, when inspecting the flatness without a datum, why do we have to make three equal height of points as a surface? Couldn't the three points not at the same height?

    • @accurateasmeiso4262
      @accurateasmeiso4262 Před 9 měsíci

      A great question. 1. Firstly we know Flatness doesn't need datum. 2. Tolerance zone is two parallel perfect planes within all points or elements should remain. 3. Since there is no datum in first principle method need to create a first perfect plane. 4. A perfect plane passes through only three points. 5. Now how to create this plane. The option one is place the surface upright down on the surface plate used as datum simulator. This method automatically create a three highest points touch tangential plane. 6. Now to find the deepest inside point as a flatness value dial must read from the bottom side. This requires a special setup of a surface plate having a hole through from bottom a dial plunger can be pushed. This is very hard and uneasy method. 7. To replicate the same method a three adjustable jack points used to find three points at equal height separated as possible within surface. 8. You are absolutely correct that these points are not top 3 heights points or allows a tangential plane. But when measurement with dial indicator is carried out it must note maximum and minimum readings with plus or minus sign. This difference is called the Flatness. 9. This is the only option remains when conventional method to adopt. 10. If you want mathematically defined perfect Flatness value it is very easy to us CMM, three coordinate measuring machine. Hope you are happy with the answer. Regards

      @@accurateasmeiso4262 Thanks for the detailed explanation. So 1.The three points at the same height meant for the surface to be checked, for your example, on the top surface, is that correct? 2.Is there a difference between using CMM and height gauge? • @accurateasmeiso4262
      @accurateasmeiso4262 Před 9 měsíci

      U r welcome 1. Yes, true. 2. CMM doesn't require three points on same height. In fact part can be placed in any orientation. Software does mathematical calculations for flatness.
