Nice one Dom - I know from decades of experience working in a power station that a handle fitted to a handwheel is far easier to grip and turn either way.

Did you change out the bearings between working the first and the second panel on the half-scale Ranalah or did it quiet down on it's on after being worked a while?

Hi,Dom. All coming together nicely now👌. On the subject of handwheels being too small to be practical it is an error I see often on small milling machines and lathes...just because the machine itself is half or quarter of the size of a commercial machine does not justify the control handwheels being made miniature to the point where they are impracticable to the user.

Another great video guys. May I make a suggestion; perhaps you could add a handle to the bottom handwheel as it would make it a heck of a lot easier to operate.

I know nothing about Ranalah but couldn’t you have a smaller top wheel and then the space above and below would be closer 🤔 In my mind that makes sense but don’t ask questions about my mind 🤪

I just got home to Vancouver after visiting the magnificent Schlumpf Collection at the Nationale Musée D’automobile in Mulhouse, France….. the biggest car museum in Europe with over 500 cars including an amazing collection of Bugatti’s and Etore Bugatti’s personal Royale. Anyway, towards the end of the exhibit hall is an immaculate collection of kids cars. Nestling at the back is a fine example of a J40, unusually in black. I wanted to post a pic of it here, but lack the technical know how. Anyhoo, For many reasons, I would highly recommend a visit to this wonderful place.

I think a good wheeler design improvement would be to use either shielded or sealed bearings. Is there a particular reason for using 'open' type bearings since they will colllect all sorts of debris in relatively no time at all which is far from ideal?

you can really see how the smaller sized Ranalah comes into its own when you're working on smaller panels

Hey Dom, how come you didn't use the bead roller to tip those edges further???? It looks like those edges/ folds are rounded more than shape and square. Not being picky but constructive. But WOW!! love the mini ran!!!! Oh that Ranalah tool post is very close to what I knocked up. Nice!!!!

For next time, Dom, please show us how you make a 'sweep'. Drawing and cutting a flat template I can imagine, but not magicking up some bent ally to a complex curve.

Those rollers should have roller bearings if they don't already have them , or plain bearings. They are under a high load

Hi Dom, Great episode. One thing I have seen and read about is the first pass for tipping use a skateboard wheel as the bottom wheel. This soft bottom wheel starts the bend and then a hard wheel for the rest gets the tipping done.. Great project. Thanks for sharing.
