It's a good, old fashioned WIP parade! I pull each of my current Works-In-Progress to share the patterns, beautiful colors, and my progress.
This was a particularly chatty day for me, so I made cuts to keep it focused on the stitching - haha! Thank you so much for sharing your time with me. Happy stitching!

Flosstube #7 - Lady and the Unicorn project

Hello, my Flosstube friends! At long last, here is a video featuring my Lady and the Unicorn tapestry from Scarlet Quince designs. I absolutely love this project (even 2.5 years after I started it!) because I fell head over heels the first time I saw the real Lady and the Unicorn Tapestry series. In the video, I walk through how I started the project, how I set up my fabric, organize my floss, ...

Flosstube #4 - Finishing cross stitched bookmarks
zhlédnutí 7KPřed rokem
In this short video, I show off my finished bookmarks, and then walk through how I finished them. I used two methods, first with covering the back with extra aida, and second by stitching microsuede over the back. One is much better than the other! I give a brief demonstration of the aida-backing method (my preferred method.) Thanks for watching! Follow me on Instagram @longlivthestitcher

Hello, stitchy friends! This week, I update you on the stitched gifts for my coworkers, including a to-die-for finish! I visited my favorite craft thrift store, @thistlecreativereuse1765 and snagged some incredible finds - all second-hand. All that haul meant I needed to reorganize my fabric, so I share how I label, organize, and store my stitching fabric. I also walk through three - count 'em,...

May I ask where you found these pretty patterns?
Hey Olivia! I’m trying to understand when you folded it around the back and then you sewed it up to the side. Did you take a pair of scissors and cut all the way up to side after it was sewn and then freeze the edges? I want to try sewing them as you did instead of gluing the back and I’m beginning to cute and my palms are sweating 🤣🤣🤣
High Olivia! Just discovered you. so I made my first bookmark couple months ago and I took a thin sturdy cut it to size placed it on the back and then I had sewn another piece of Aida on the back over the plastic and it turned out great. I also frayed the edges and the bookmark is nice and stiff. Sturdy doesn’t bend because of the thin plastic. Just thought I’d write in and let you know my experience love the video. Oh, I’m gonna be 60 soon. I’ve been stitching since I was in seventh grade. 🙂
Hello! Thank you so much for watching and connecting with me; I love hearing that stitching has always been a part of your life. I hope to have the same story, too. That’s a great idea for the bookmark! I just started a new bookmark pattern, so I’ll have to give that a try. Thanks for sharing!
@@LongLivTheStitcher oh your welcome and very cool with the new pattern. I will keep up with you. And always remember. Enjoy what you are doing. It’s not fun, and your creativeness gets stuck if you can’t enjoy it. Oh and I was asked to do a stitching class with a small group at a small Spanish church I got to in San diago. I’m the only one that doesn’t speak Spanish hahaha. Never done this before so, I hope they enjoy it. 🙂
Tip - I left a cross stitch in the front pocket of an airplane - NEVER AGAIN!
The “Fold Over Finish” is the PERFECT solution to my question of how to finish the back of the bookmarks I’m making for my brother and sister in law. Thank you so much!
Happy belated birthday 🎉 Always love to see all your projects, they are all beautiful 😍
Happy belated birthday! I'm planning the same thing with a pattern where I don't like the alfabet. Found myself a quote I love and will just add that in instead!
Congrats on the lady and the unicorn progress! I saw stitching Fae ordered cedar river linen in the exact color modeling of the sienna or red background color which now makes this project super interesting to me!
Thank you! It’s my baby and fav project for sure. I’d like to stitch parts of the other tapestries by doing what you’ve got in mind - using a burgundy or red background and just stitching the characters. I can’t wait to see what you stitch!
Yay- a WIP parade!!! That was fun and hard to pick a favorite : ) I had not seen the Doreen Jones Take me to the Sea before- oh my, that one is going on my list! Thank you for taking the time to prep, film and share. I enjoyed it very much!
Thank you so much for watching! Being able to share my crazy cross stitch passion with this community is wonderful - thanks for being a part of that! And yes, I’m just gaga over everything Durene Jones designs!
The red and green Aida would make great little ornaments as gifts, stitched in white ❄
Great WIP parade-love the variety of your projects and how you are experiencing new fabrics etc. I saw where the owner of Scarlet Quince is retiring. So if you need more of the "Lady and the Unicorn" patterns, make sure you get them before she closes up. With the musty fabric, you may try soaking them for a few minutes with just a drop or 2 of Dawn, rinse carefully and lay them in the sun. Since they aren't dyed fabric you don't need to worry about fading. You may need to repeat.
That’s excellent advice - I’ll let you know how that goes! Yes, I’ve been scrolling the Scarlet Quince patterns since the announcement. It’s sad to say goodbye to a foundational pattern maker. The real question will be which pattern is lovely enough to devote 6 years of my life?! 😄 Thanks for watching!
Hi Liv! Your enthusiasm is contagious! 😊
You’re too kind - thank you so much for watching and connecting!
Hi Liv❤ always happy to see you❣
Same to you; thank you for watching! ❤️
@@LongLivTheStitcherYour craft beer sounds delicious! I'm a G & T lover and I add blood orange mixer which takes it to an entirely different level ❤ I also love kitting!!
Place the cloth in a plastic (zip lock) with dryer sheets.
Oooh great idea - thank you! I appreciate the advice 😊
I really enjoyed the different patterns. Love the colors of the pastels. I have been to my reuse center too and donated some items that I just wasn’t going to finish. It was a great experience.
Thank you, it’s wonderful that you enjoyed the pattern variety, too! Aren’t reuse crafts stores just the best? I purchased my first cross stitch kit at one. Thanks for watching! ❤️

The May Morris pattern is gorgeous! I looked up the seller & I want to buy just about every single pattern! It’s going to be hard to settle for just a few.
Thank you - it’s one of my favorite pieces! Yes, all of her patterns are lovely, just full of color. Why settle for just a few? 😂
Great ideas!
Thank you, I’m so glad you liked them!
Great tips. Thanks
Thank you so much for watching!
I use a thread cutter pendant as a work around for my scissors. Also my travel stitching case (made from a travel jewelry case) is a must. It contains everything I need. Even a collapsible ort jar 😊. I also like using floss drops.
These are great suggestions! I’m going to see about a travel stitching case. I’d love to have one that’s magnetic, too. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
TSA will not throw away your scissors if you carry the correct ones. The blade cannot be longer than 1". The three inch is for the full length of the scissors. I have traveled for years all over and have never had my scissors taken away. I use a neck light. I carry a floss bed that folds into a box tray while in use. I prep my floss at the beginning of every project. I use scroll bars at home but on a plane I use a 5" hoop. Small but still holds the fabric, I also hoop before getting on the plane nothing worse than trying to hoop in a confined area. I rarely have a small project so I use magnets to control the fabric and I make a copy of the area that I will be stitching on.
I’ve found that stitching on 7 ct. (Klostern) or 10 ct. Tula to work well for me. Easy to see! These fabrics make the large, primitive Santas by Shepherds Bush
I’ll have to check those out - it sounds like a breeze to stitch on. Thanks for sharing with me! ❤️
This was great Olivia! I'm the driver now that I'm a widow, but I was the driver when my husband was alive because he drove for work. I do love monochromatic and did three last year!
Looks like you’re all set to do a monochromatic pattern! Thank you for sharing your stitching story - it’s always good to see you! ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your tips. Will definitely prepare my floss as you recommend - great idea! 🪡
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and I love that you’ll be extra prepped for your next travel stitching! Thank you so much for watching and connecting here! ❤️
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it - thank you!
Great tips! I picked up a couple of new ideas. Thank you!
I’m so glad this will help you take cross stitch on the road. Thanks for watching! ❤️
You really shared some special pieces! That’s a very special keepsake from your MIL, so glad you have it. I really enjoyed your video and all you shared- especially your philosophy. ❤ And really genius floss storage with the numbered card rather than the bag!
Thank you so much for such a kind message! I’m glad to know about fellow stitcher - thank you for watching and connecting! ❤️
Great tips! Good idea with the project bag since those are rather see through also for our friends at the TSA😉
Haha yes, anything to get through security drama-free 😂 Thanks for watching! ❤️
Great ideas. I do all of these. I use a neck light rather than a clip on. Works for me. I also made needle minders with flat beads. Put the needle in the whole. Double protection. Works great.
Flat beads for needle minders, brilliant!
What creative ideas! I’ve been curious about the neck light; what kind do you like to use? And a needleminder from a bead is inspired! You should make a how-to video on making them! Thank you so much for watching and connecting! ❤️
I just bought round flat beads and glued a magnet on the back.
great ideas!
Thank you so much for watching! ❤️
Great recommendations. I like the floss prep idea 💡 ❤
Thank you so much for watching! Yes, that was a game-changer for me. I had some down time waiting for a flight, and started just pulling it out. I can’t wait to hear about your next travel stitching adventure!
New subscriber! I travel frequently… your tips are spot on!! Great video!
Thank you so much for watching and connecting! I can’t wait to hear about how you take your stitching in your travels!
Olivia Just saw your channel and so enjoyed it, thank you for showing your stitchy spot and favorite traveling tools. Such great information. I am at retirement age and just got back into cross stitching. So many things are available now. What ott light did you purchase and do you need magnification? If so what do you use? Looking forward to watching all your other videos and more to come hopefully! Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching and connecting! I use a few different Ott lights that are table lamp size. I’ve found that just having good, adjustable light makes all the difference for me. I don’t use magnification, or at least not yet haha! Welcome back to cross stitch! ❤️
Some great suggestions. Only thing I’d add (for those with sore eyes 😂) would be some sort of portable magnification. I travel a ton but usually only stitch in my hotel room. I need those little clip on magnification glasses 😑 and definitely better lighting. ❤
Thanks for watching! I’d love to see your tips, too, you’ve got the system down! Yes, magnification is in my future, if my increasing glasses prescription is any indicator! 😂
Great ideas. What size bag do you recommend
I use these, which are 16x11 inches. Here’s the link: a.co/d/e5DijM1 Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you. Great suggestions.
Thank you so much for watching - I hope you show off where you take your travel stitching!
Hi Olivia! Im so sorry for your loss. I just found you and have gone back and watched all your videos. You are great at this. I’m in Dallas too! Creative Stitches is 10 minutes away from me. The ladies in there are so nice. Next time I’m in Denton I’ll be going to Thistle. Another craft resale place is called Pegasus Creative Reuse in Tyler Station. They have all kinds of craft supplies.
Hi Andrea! Thank you so much for reaching out and connecting- we're cross stitch neighbors! I'll have to check out Pegasus, that sounds right up my alley. Thank you!
Wow. The Lady and the Unicorn is stunning! Thank you for showing the whole thing.
Thank you so much - she’s the love of my life 😍
Thanks for the update and I agree - I cross stitch because it helps me to recharge and I buy supplies for the same reason. I stitch what I want when I want (and do the cross stitch games that help me see progress, without feeling like I have no choice). I've also stated the Durene Jones SAL - it's so pretty! Thoughts for your whole family as you work through the grieving process. What a treasure to find her early stitching!
I really enjoy your message and it resonated with me. Great idea for creating a space at work for you to get recharged. So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Trying to prepare myself for the inevitable with my mom, with not much time left. Thanks for sharing your story and your journey! I need to go grab a beer now!
So sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Wonderful to have a project of hers. Thank you for the flash storage method. I kind of do some thing like that but not quite. But yours looks like it works pretty well. Been watching since your first video. can’t wait to see the next six months.

How awesome to have a piece of stitching from your MIL! I love it! You + cross stitch = strength! The bees are adorable! Thanks for sharing your cool floss storage system!
Thank you so much! Yes, we draw strength from stitching - not just joy! Thanks for connecting here!
I love your stitching philosophy. Happy stitching. Great to see you again.
Thank you! 😊 one of the things I love about this online space is how many people come to stitching for peace and love of creating something. Glad to hear it speaks to you, too!
So sorry for your loss. What a sweet memento to have from her. ❤
Thank you - I’ll treasure it always. ❤️
Olivia, my sympathies to you and your family on the loss of your mother-in-law. You are a joy to watch! I say spend a little money if it makes you happy. 😊 I also love stitching on even weave. Happy stitching. 😊
Thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement. This community is all our stitchy friends, full of support and enthusiasm for each other’s crafts! Happy stitching to you, too!
So sorry about your mother-in-law. So happy you have a piece of her work to bring you joy. I call my stitching my therapy. The Caron threads are beautiful. You might look at Quaker designs, Primrose cottage has some really cute ones and I thought of Ink Circles. She has some great patterns.
Oooooh that’s a great suggestions, I’ll check it out. I keep thinking about that floss, so I’ll probably have a new start to show off with it soon! Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️
I was thinking of you where is Olivia, so glad to see you. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much! It feels great to be back. 😊Happy New Year!
It’s cracking me up how we are so on the same page- abandoning no buy and stopping the gilmoreisms sal. I’m sorry to hear about your mother in law. I’m so glad you have such a special stitch to remember her. It is gold! Also, glad you are longlivthestitcher again! It’s too good of a name not to use 😂
Omg wow - we really are! I’m sorry to hear you abandoned the SAL, but cheers to us just stitching what we enjoy - no restraints! Thanks for being in this great community with me, friend!
