How Good Can You Tolerate Uncertainty?
#buddhism #stoicism #philosophy
The Joy of Not Knowing. The only constant is change. It's the most basic fact of our human existence. Nothing lasts, nothing stays the same, nothing is as solid as it appears, everything is unstable, temporary. We take it as a given that uncertainty is always bad and, conversely, that certitude is always good. Yet ancient philosophy, as well as a growing body of scientific evidence, suggests otherwise.

TAOISM: How To Find Inner Peace
zhlédnutí 3KPřed 2 lety
#taoism #buddhism #innerpeace A huge focus of schools of thought such as Buddhism and Taoism is to work with practices that cultivate inner peace. There’s a reason inner peace is ingrained in religious or philosophical wisdom. Its nature is difficult to comprehend with the intellect alone. Attaining inner peace isn’t only an intellectual exercise, but an embodied practice. In this video you wil...
3 Billion Heartbeats: The Generally Under Appreciated State Known As Existence

#life #meaning #philosophy The ingredients for life are simple: energy, organic molecules, and liquid water. An average human life span consists of about 3 billion heartbeats. If all you get are those 3 billion heartbeats, then what happens here-to your life, to the people you know, and to the world you can affect-matters. #taoism #philosophy #meaning Why is there something rather than nothing? What is our place in the world? What is our future? What is our purpose? In the Eastern philosophical tradition, there’s yet an...

#languishing #solitude #2021 Our perception of reality is shaped by language. Psychologists find that one of the best strategies for managing emotions is to name them. Depression is the valley of ill-being in which you fee...

great video thank you! A perhaps helpful tip from the perspective of the listener..I think you could slow down the pace a bit of narration. Some longer pauses after sentences allows for what you read to sink in. These are big truths and concepts, so they deserve a moment to absorb, I think. Love the image and content...hope the tip is helpful. Peace

7:17 fun fact: you switched up the meanings of Yin and Yang. Xiran Jay Zhao pointed it out in their video on Mulan 2. In our western minds we associate white with softness and femininity while black is seen as hard and masculine. But in the eastern cultures it's the other way around, making Mulan and Shang destroy gender norms by accident

With respect, please read a biography of Jiddu Krishnamurti, the Brahman boy anointed as the "Messiah" of the Theosophists. He renounced his calling and was educated as an English gentleman by his adoptive patron, Annie Besant. Highly recommended is "Madame Blavatsky's Baboon: A History of the Mystics, Mediums, and Misfits Who Brought Spiritualism to America" by Peter Washington. Krishnamurti was a hypocrite who had a long-lasting affair with his sister-in-law. There's no need for the quotation from him in the video. The rest of the video is fine as it is. Although, it's possible to ask: How does one empty the mind? Even in dreams we have images. We are not conscious only when under anesthesia. No one can stop a thought - just try to deliberately not think of something. A better counsel might be to let thoughts, images, and feelings come and go, without judgment. Being receptive to current experience means not being in the grip of particular mental/emotional patterns. There is no emptiness in an absolute sense - even the cosmic vacuum, according to physicists, is full of virtual particles, which come into and go out of existence. That's a good metaphor for the empty plenum of Taoism - fullness which is also emptiness, which has the potential to generate a stream of beings and events.
