The impacts of economic sanctions on food prices security: Evidence from targeted countries
Our paper examines the causal impact of economic sanctions on both food prices and food security. Food prices serve as a pivotal gauge of food security, and the enforcement of economic sanctions may compound food security issues in the countries targeted by such measures. The examination of the impact of sanctions on food prices is of paramount importance, especially considering anecdotal evidence suggesting heightened food security concerns in nations subjected to sanctions. To ascertain the existence of a causal link between food prices and sanctions, we employ a two-way fixed-effects approach and leverage the entropy balancing technique, which replicates randomization in observational studies. Our analysis relies on two primary datasets: the recently developed Global Sanctions Database (GSDB) for measuring sanctions and FAOSTAT for evaluating food prices. Our results show that sanctions result in a real term increase in food prices as during the sanctions period, food prices are higher by 0.01-0.014 compared to non-sanctions period. Sanctions contribute to a higher prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) by 1.419-2.083.

Confiscation of Russian sovereign assets: What are the options?
zhlédnutí 1,7KPřed 4 měsíci
There is a growing consensus in the West that Russia should pay for damages and losses it has caused to Ukraine during its unprovoked war of aggression, which have already exceeded USD 400 billion. So far, the burden of funding Ukraine’s self-defence and recovery efforts has fallen on the shoulders of Ukraine and its Western partners. To fund the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war, some ha...

Integration or Fracture? What Global History Reveals and Conceals about the Future
"Nemo plus juris transfereat quam ipse habet" in Latin, which translates to "No one can transfer more rights than he himself has" in English. This principle is rooted in both Latin and American law, emphasizing that a person cannot transfer or delegate more authority or power than they themselves possess. Thus it's illegal and embezzlement and misappropriation of funds which is a felony.

Rather than what are the options, focus on what would be the consequences. For you and the entire western nazist squad :-)
"Ukranian law expert" says this confiscation is completley legitimate.🤣Trust him!😂 EU and the US will face much more serious economic problems.
Please God make it happen. The consequences for the USA would be absolutely huge. Confiscation is also known as theft. These folk are plotting to carry out theft from not just a sovereign nation but a nuclear superpower. I mean talk about numpties. Please do this, the global south is ready. Can't wait to see the Russian response.
Have any of you heard of the UN?
There are few major points here- first: Russia will not suffer without these assets- it's being living fine 2 years without access to those, Second: those will not help to Ukraine: damage to Ukrainian economy, society, industry, is many orders higher than the value of these assets. Third- the whole world economy is based on respect of contract. Braking that principal will end- up US and European banking system (it's already happening anyway). All these emotionally damaged pro-Ukrainian "experts" will immediately reconsider their point of view when US and west will get back to Russia after war is over and there is no legal entity to receive these compensation.
England and USA are like a pirate .! They stole Venuzelas gold to,34 ton in the bank of england !
"This will destroy the halo of security that surrounds the dollar and will be the first step towards de-dollarization, which many are increasingly confidently leaning toward, from China to developing countries, not to mention Russia itself," Schiller continued. The US, EU, and allies have frozen some $300 billion of Russian foreign exchange reserve assets since last year after slapping the Kremlin with sanctions over the Ukraine war. Over the past year, various ideas have been tossed around regarding using the funds to aid Ukraine. Earlier this month, the Financial Times described doing so as "a radical step that would open a new chapter in the west’s financial warfare against Moscow." "I can’t convince myself that this [confiscation of Russian assets] is the right way," said Schiller, who received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2013, and is known for his expertise in behavioral economics and macroeconomics. He was named one of Bloomberg's '50 most influential people' in global finance. "In addition to the fact that this will be confirmation for the Russian leader that what is happening in Ukraine is a proxy war, it could paradoxically turn against America and the entire West," he continued, adding that giving confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine would become "a cataclysm for the current dollar-dominated economic system." Russia has called the confiscation unlawful, and warned that any country considering participating in sanctions should expect a mirror response from Moscow.
If the United States shifts frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, it would be cataclysmic for the US Dollar's status as the global reserve currency, says Nobel Prize winning Yale professor, Robert Shiller. "If America does this to Russia today… then tomorrow it can do this to anyone," he told Italian news outlet La Repubblica in an interview published Sunday.
Ukrainian law expert 😂
Stealing assets is a bad idea and going to backfire. Fewer countries are going to want to do business with the West.
I don't have any problems with respecting international law. Just that it should be applied equally to everyone, americans included. Only then will the west be seen as being genuin in its actions.
Getting experts' views is far more refreshing than watching news.
Assume UKR loses its gov't so the restoration is of mainly military targets thus need no reconstruction. To demand reconstruction of civilian areas implies Israel set aside billions to reconstruction jthose destroyed by warcrimes. Fine by me if the issue of military use, noting UKR preferred takeovers of civilian bldgs don't get restored by RUS, they also are UKR liabilities. Knowing this won't happen is depressing, seeing finally Europe is in WW3 at this time, why not blow the Transatlantic cables ? Hire a party boat & 6-crew to do the deed of greed & disruption ? Incredible lose of sanity. Thx, good views 🥂
Reminds me of the Bank of England taking Czechoslovakia's 227 tons of gold and giving it ALL to Adolf!!!! Classy. The West loves MAZIS.

How much should the US pay for taking over 1/3 of Syria and stealing Syrian oil?
No such consensus exists. Confiscating private or state Russian assets would be unlawful. Any option which involves confiscation simply is financial warfare without legal support in the international community - and when note, 'the west' isn't even a combatant in a war:is it?
For all those who support the confiscation - does this apply to American assets too? Are countries free to seize American assets for the illegal invasion and destruction of Iraq? Let me guess - "THAT'S DIFFERENT!!!"
can you convince someone to do it and face the consequences? If so go right ahead. You are pretending that russia didnt confiscate hundreds of planes and assets from us. Spare me the lecture.
@@MrRoyalbeers The USA declared Economic War on Russia in the late 1990's. The apparent majority of resources available on the Planet, indicates the USA is not a Nation that is committed to Free Trade? The US seems to only offer their considered price, for the resources of their former Colonies, the one that seems to be so close to zero, that it is difficult to define the difference. The US appears to have already lost the Economic War?
I fail completely to see how that has remotely anything to do with what I just said.@@danielhutchinson6604
@@MrRoyalbeers so your argument is that no one will dare, because the US is a tеrrorist state and will proceed to attack any country that would? Thanks for confirming. Morоn, Russia confiscated the planes? Really? There was a binding lease agreement. Russia didn't confiscate the planes, Russia was ready and willing to pay. Your government blocked the payment in dollars. Russia offered to compensate in roubles, with company could have exchanged for dollars in minutes. Your government banned the companies from "bypassing sanctions". And if you are going to make claims get your head out of your аss and keep up with the news - Russia did figure out to pay off the companies in dollars and all the planes have been bought out. So I'll ask again - is there one international law that should be applied to all the counties, or is the tеrrorist US has the right to invade and genocide millions of innocent civilians without repercussions?
@@MrRoyalbeers Does Ukraine attacked with tanks an russian ally the same way Iraq did ? Aren't you tired of using fake reasons in order to keep the russian lie alive ?
sick brain idea to legalization of state robbery
The first country Hilter went to, to confiscate state assets was Austria. You are advocating violating international law the same as Hitler did. Shame on you - that is not the legal order our ancestors fought to defeat in Europe. I studied law in Vienna and there is no law for the theft of state assets like you propose in Austria or anywhere else.
Hitler was attempting to gain access to Caspian Oil Fields. The USA now seems to want all Russian Oil Production infrastructure. But I could be wrong. Hitler was taught a Harsh Lesson in 1945. The USA seems to be a Slow Learner?

Mr. Lendvai seems to be much more interested in Israeli and American politics than in European realities. I don't think that his presence brings added value, on the contrary, it accentuates the feeling that the interests of other countries are more important than ours, which reveals an undemocratic attitude and the feeling that we are being lied to. What is the value of United Europe and European citizenship if there is no guarantee of a democratic, correct practice. This debate is a big waste of time!
