Unboxing: Horotec MSA10.311 Spring Bar Curve Tool
I demonstrate the use of the Horotec "CurveTool" MSA103.11
This tool allows you to bend spring bars, when a curved spring bar is required for your watch and/or watch strap.
I couldn't help but take one of these for myself - I recently received this in stock and is available for sale at watchoffthecuff.com:

    This has happened to me for a second time with vintage seiko quartz watches . The watch has a new battery . It will work for about 2 minutes and then stop with the second hand twitching. With the first watch the same thing happened but after I put too much lubricant in ,the watchmaker told me that the movement was dead and it would cost me 80 euro for a new one. I'm very disappointed as this is a recent purchase from eBay and its cost me 12.50 for a new battery. The seller said it was running and keeping good time. I won't be buying seiko vintage quartz again. The first watch by the way was my own and was 30 years old.

      Arghh - sorry to hear that! One thing to keep in mind... the hour wheel is kept in place with a wavy washer pressed between the hour wheel and dial. When you change the battery if you press down too hard you can press the dial too close to the movement putting pressure on the hour wheel, which will make the watch stop (sometime right away, sometimes after several minutes or hours). If you decase the movement you can gently separate the dial from the movement a fraction of a millimeter and it will relieve the tension, allowing the watch to work again! Just a suggestion! Cheers, Colin

    • @watchoffthecuff
      @watchoffthecuff Před 11 dny

      I have never been hands on with the 5700. I do like the style of holder that the 5700 uses, but you can buy this style for the Horotec version (I haven't gotten around to doing it yet though). There are so many options for the Horotec though - so if I could do it all over again I would still go with Horotec. (The 5700 is basically industry standard though, I have visited many shops that use it instead of the Horotec version.)

      I saw the red suction die set in person at Horotec headquarters in Switzerland not that long ago, but have never actually used them. I do have the blue suction die set in my own shop and have used them with mixed results. I only use them if I don't have the proper die. So my advice is not to rely on them as any everyday die option. On my website I have the version that includes the Rolex, B&M, and blue suction dies, plus of course the standard adjustable fixture. I have been very happy with this setup!

    Surely the turbo does the job of the pulse or am I confused

    • @watchoffthecuff
      @watchoffthecuff Před 15 dny

      The Turbo forces the hands around by exciting the driver coil. The Pulse listens for the driver coil to fire during regular operation of the timing circuit so if the hands are not moving you can determine if the watch is running or not, as the watch could not be running or the watch is running but the hands are mechanically stuck! Hope I've explained that better and not worse than the video!!!! Eeeeeek! So, they each perform a very different function, as the Turbo acts upon the watch, while the Pulse only monitors what the watch is doing (or not doing!) Cheers Colin

      Is there still an impulse to the coil? Do you have a way to test it? Does it get "stuck" in the same spot? (Wondering if it's just jammed). Also, sometimes when the battery is changed you press it in too hard and and puts pressure on the hour wheel when the movement and dial are pushed together too tightly This can also happen when you use a replacement battery that is too thick. correct battery is 315 and not 362

    • @watchoffthecuff
      @watchoffthecuff Před měsícem

      You may be right, both batteries are 7.9mm and I did not pull the spec on this movement and didn't record it so I can't go back and check. It did have a 362 in it at the time. Did you pull the spec on this movement (if you know what it is?). The trouble with a 315 is the depth when the battery is held with a side spring. The 315 is only 1.6mm thick so it would work, but could possibly pull away from the bottom contact making it reliability an issue as the battery could shift during wear and make intermittent contact with the lower contact prong. The 362 is 2.1mm thick and sat flush with the top of the movement itself, if it was incorrect it would have stuck out, raising alarm bells. Also, if it was not the correct thickness, with the error being too thick as you propose then it would have put pressure on the movement and would likely jam the hour wheel against the underside of dial, causing the watch to lose time or not work at all. In the absence of the movement spec sheet I stand behind the 362 for this model... But am willing to be corrected if other data is present! We are all human and make mistakes! Cheers, Colin

      Fair point! It is likely that I did lubricate it, just didn't capture it on camera... But to be honest for this video I don't remember.

    Hello, could you please let me know what grit sharpening stone should I get for screwdrivers?? 400?. 800? 1000? 3000?

      @watchoffthecuff Před měsícem

      I personally use a 150/400 combination stone and use 800 to do a little touch up at the end. The reason is that 150/400 combination stones are readily available.

    Hello ; i build watches for fun and i just found out about this movement ; i would like to put it in a watch but i can’t find parts that fit with it ; if someone can help me ill be very grateful !

      It can be tough sometimes to find off the shelf parts that are compatible with a lot of movements. The exception being movements that are popular with modders, like Seiko!

    Beautiful watch - I want this exact spec. What size are your wrists? I have 6.4-6.5” wrists, so between the 41 and 36mm. But 36mm isn’t offered with this dial color, which is sad

      My wrist is 7.25, so the 41mm fits nicely in my opinion. But it does wear small as the lugs don't project out that much and are nicely curved.
