Gorgeous!
It looks like they prepared for this well ahead of time with all of that flow management construction... Gord
Somewhere you make a jump cut in the video 3:11 on just at a point where now the San Pedro Creek, Alazan, and Apache trails somewhat converge. Its weird as the Apache and Alazan hydrologically are superior to the San Pedro that they insist on calling that section from the river walk to Alazan/Apache trails, the San Pedro Creek. What I want is the Zarzamora trail to connect up into Leon Valley or at least a street bike lane to get to the Ingram trail... its such a let down to ride that trail for it to die at NW 36th between Culebra and Commerce.
So... how did you weather the storm, Andrew? Gord
It wasn’t bad, some decent rain but nothing crazy or flooding
@@cyclingtexas1670 I'm glad to hear that... Gord
Really lovely, Andrew! Beautiful waters along NPI. I gather it's gotten cloudy and s bit cooler with that low pressure coming from the south Gulf of Mexico. Gord
The day I went didn’t seem to have any effects yet from the storm
Apache with the Zarzamora creek trail makes for a nice ride however the trail is lacking a true start point. As the San Pedro (still under construction) Apache, and Azltan creek trails nearly connect together.
They are all interconnected. A good start point would be Concepcion Park or Confluence Park. The portion of San Pedro Creek under construction is a new spur to Downtown from the existing San Pedro Creek Greenway.

Hey, I am moving to SA and want to get into cycling. Will a road bike do the trick for all the trails or would I be better off with a gravel bike?
I would recommend a road bike. If you’re into gravel riding there’s plenty of gravel roads in the countryside. But I would recommend a road bike
New subscriber here , the video began when last one ended and wasn't long before I hit the subscribe and turning on the notifications, yhe stuff Iike , hope you have an awesome time
I love this river! Born and raised in San Marcus
Great place to be!
Andrew, That looks like more flow than usual, along the San Marcos. Would that be correct... or is my impression wrong? Gord
This river is a lot more stable than others in my experience. The Frio, Medina and upper Guadalupe can be bone dry. San Marcos and New Braunfels will still have water flowing.
@@cyclingtexas1670 Thanks Andrew... The reason I asked is because many of these crystal clear rivers are spring fed, as you know. But with the number of storms and rain this spring, I wasn't sure if that was effecting river flows. Gord
@gorrdd we’ve been seeing some rain but no where near the same level as you guys or Houston area. We’ve been fortunate enough to avoid severe weather but canyon lake, lake Medina, lake Travis are still much lower than they should be.
@@cyclingtexas1670 Thanks... that answers most of my interest. Thanks for the details. Are the other rivers dry this spring, or just lower than usual? How's the spring vegetation doing this year in the hill country? Gord
@@gorrddI haven’t been deep into the hill country this year yet. I’ve been hanging out between Austin and San Antonio for the most part. I can say for sure that it is much greener and healthier looking than the past couple of years. I just think the water levels are so low from the past few years lack of rainfall that we probably are gonna need some kind of flood to bounce back to normal levels.
Going to visit my daughter and her family in San Antonio next month. Any other places to ride there?
For Trails, the Riverwalk, Leon/Salado Creek Greenways are probably your best bet for first time. If you want to road ride probably somewhere on the north side like Babcock and Scenic Loop. If you can make it out to New Braunfels, River Road is a great place to Road Ride
@@cyclingtexas1670 Thanks, my daughter lives near New Braunfels and her husband is an officer for that city. I will check it out.
Very cool newish greenway trail expansion. Really awesome park improvements by the lake too. Just 10 yrs ago I’d never dreamt of going anywhere on a road bikethru the near west side alone! . Curious how many miles you logged on that ride? Much THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO. Ride On. 😅
where is this trail entrance 8:38?
It's that a 360 your using? Gord
A 360 camera? Those look cool, but this is just my phone. iPhone 14 wide angle shot.
Thanks Andrew... These places are pretty neat. Doesn't look like much has changed over the past 50 years. It's already full on summer with all the haze and more humidity than usual. Gord
Seguin doesn't change. It just gets more crowded.
0:22 River Drive 2:23 Guadalupe at US 90 4:22 Guadalupe at TX 46 6:57 Power Plant Seguin 7:23 Guadalupe at Austin St
Alrighty then...all I can say is that was very cool. 👍👍
Thanks Andrew... This made for a neat video. Seeing the River Walk from the water perspective gives it a kind of Venetian vibe with the high rise buildings. Gord
Thanks for watching!
Your having the same kind of weather as we are... up here in DFW. Allot of rain this year compared with other years a decade ago. Gord
That's a great workout. My wife and I kayaked this same area three years ago. At 1:33 you're passing Iron Cactus. If you've not taken your lady to that place yet, I recommend it. The brisket quesadilla and Mexican donuts are awesome!
Good to know! Definitely was a good workout. Had my arms burning almost immediately. Definitely was rethinking my choice to kayak immediately after getting in the water lol
Wow... It's really flowing this year! Gord
Beautiful water... crystal clear. Thanks. Gord
Andrew, You definitely caught the mood of the atmosphere with the rain and clouds. The lighting was perfect... Gord
This is it, I wish we have this kind of road here without interruption, wish to ride this road soonest,,,
Pretty cool, does it ride pretty well?
Indeed it does. Very smooth and silent on gear changes. The frame is incredible stiff... no flex in the bottom bracket. Same with the stem and forks. When you do a static drop, everything on the bike has that slight higher pitched buzz rather than a lower pitched hum, typical of a cheaper made bike. And this is their entry level folder. It comes with Schwalbe Big Apple 2" tires that have less roll resistance, at the same tire pressure, than a 1.5" tire. Apparently, bigger tires with enough pressure maintain less road surface contact, than narrower tires that must compress more on contract. This bike certainly rolls along as effortlessly as the best I've ever ridden in the past. This folder is only 25 lbs. The seat is also very well designed. But my butt isn't... yet! It's getting better after a 100+ miles on the first week. I need a second bike and am thinking of a somewhat similar Tern Link S8I. It has an internal 8 speed hub that is geared for all inclines, both up and down. The drive train is a notched carbon belt. It needs no lubrication whatsoever and together with the sealed 8 speed hub, that also requires no lubrication, is eerily quiet and smooth. The system is totally maintenance free except for replacing the belt, after so many thousands of miles. And the weight of the drive and hub is only about a quarter of the weight of a chain and derailleur system. A really great development... but it's pricey at around $2200. I paid $850 for my Tern Link C8. Gord
@@gorrdd very cool, I always wondered about the folding bikes. Definitely much more convenient
@@cyclingtexas1670 It folds up small enough to fit easily into a trunk or half of the backseat. Very convenient indeed. No need for a bike rack and exposure to tampering and theft.
@gorrdd that’s my least favorite thing about cycling. Transporting my bike. It’s a pain in the butt to take in and out of my car. A folding bike would be pretty cool.
@@cyclingtexas1670 Yeah... if you have that issue then it would be a great benefit to you. It only takes about 10-15 seconds to fold and unfold.. I bought a front bag for the handlebars to put necessary stuff like spare tubes, tools, and pump and a few accessories for cleaning etc. Getting that bag on and off takes longer than folding or unfolding. The folder has a compact magnetic clip system that holds the two wheels together when folded so that it doesn't open up unintended. Because it uses a 20" wheel, rather than a 27" wheel, it folds up small. Consequently, the seat post is long with an adjustable quick release that collapses the seat and post all the way down. The bottom of the seatpost serves as the third leg of a stool. The other two supporting legs are the wheels folded together, but a few inches apart. The bike stands alone folded, without further support. The handlebar stem is also long and folds down as well. In it's folded position there is a small rubber belt strap on the frame that holds the stem security in place. Lastly, the pedals have a quick release that allows them to fold up or down. That's four folds and one extension to deal with. They designed it in such a way that the flex in the shifter and brake cables doesn't effect their performance. Once unfolded everything works perfectly without any further adjustment. Both the brakes and the derailleur work perfectly.... excellent performance from both. Gord
Lovely image, Andrew! I liked seeing your bike in the background. I just got a new Tern folding bike for myself last week. What a fantastic little precision machine. I go willingly but I'm forced to drag my butt along for the ride... until he gets broken in again. 😂 Haven't ridden in over 20 years. You know the deal...😊 Gord
Heck yeah! I saw them too on my way to Victoria
The wildflowers are great this year! Gord
Very nice indeed!
Ive been fishing with my Rod strapped to my bike. Fun x2
Any fishing off that trail?
I’ve seen fish, never seen anyone fish. I know for sure people fish all the time at Starke Park about 1/2 mile away at the Guadalupe River. I don’t know much about fishing myself though
Austin Texas was the first big city I ever rode a bike in. I rented some bromptons and rode from my hotel off i35 to Guero’s on south congress. It was cool to see the same area I rode in. 10 years later I’m getting ready to fly to NYC with my trek to ride the 5 boro tour in two weeks. This is going to be the 2nd big city I ride a bike in lol, and a huge city at that. Im super excited to ride my own bike this time and make memories with it.
That’s cool, take some pictures or some videos and share them!
@@cyclingtexas1670 I got the whole ride on my go pro, but somehow the camera reset without me knowing and it shot at 480p!! 🤦🏽♂️ so the footage looks like some 1980’s footage lol. I was so disappointed with that. But the experience was amazing
@BUCKSHOTSTV lol, I know how that feels. That’s why I make less videos now. The damn camera annoys the hell out of me sometimes. Have to troubleshoot in the middle of the ride, instead of enjoying the ride. Glad you enjoyed the experience!
great tales!
Nice...👍 Gord
Beautiful area, Andrew! Thanks for sharing. 😊 Gord
Beautiful lighting, Andrew! Thanks. Gord
This is an excellent route. Do you post them on Ride With GPS?
Yes, there’s a strava link in the description
Thank you for this video tour. Looks like more improvements since last time I biked there - before I had a camera.
Nice short, Andrew... Gord
Beautiful, Andrew... Thanks. Gord
Your little wave greet is a cool thing to do. Not only is it just a nice way to acknowledge others but it’s a bit of ‘good press’; not everyone *loves* the cyclist ☺️😉✌️
Haha yeah Some cyclists definitely can take cycling too seriously, we’re all just out to enjoy the beautiful day and the trails
@@cyclingtexas1670 Not only do you give us great rides & ideas, you rep what Texas means to a lot of people. Happy to sub ya & w/ thanks 🫶
I have a questionm please someone answer. Hiw deep is the water u were in
According to google average 10-16 feet deep, no swimming permitted
It's really nice to see someone who knows how to ride properly on a shared use path. Well done.
i recently have gotten into bike riding, do you have any reccomendations? also do you have a discord or something where you do meetups to ride with other people?
You live in SA? I have a friend I ride with sometimes, most of the time I’m a solo rider.
yeah im in San Antonio by walker ranch park but if you ever do, that would be cool me and my girlfriend would like to join we also plan to do some bikepacking later@@cyclingtexas1670
Thanks Andrew. Beautiful day. Biking downtown makes more sense, given the parking situation. It looks like it rained recently... the river is up and puddles remain. Gord
Yeah it rained pretty good that night
Nice video - nifty to see that S.A. does a fair job of marking bike lanes on at least some of their streets, I'd guess *mostly around downtown. Evidently LOTS of bike / walking paths, too, something Ft. Worth could use more of.
The city’s definitely trying. All the newer street projects are including bike lanes like this. Don’t be misled though. Most of the city is horrible for bicycle safety. But we do have a good greenway system. Over 100 miles of paths across the city
Thanks for the insight on S.A. - I'd seen from google Maps that there are some fairly extensive bike paths around the city, surprised me that there was that much. There's a guy here in Plano who does a series of daily rides every April out of Fredericksburg, 35-60 milers (free, no fee)..haven't been able to go the last couple of years - wan to go this year but battling a hip bursitis issue, gotta knock this out first.@@cyclingtexas1670
I have walked a lot of that...cant wait to get back on the bike.
Glad to see you making videos again. I always enjoy your narration explaining where you are and what we are looking at. I went for a ride today myself and found the wind to be a bit much with these cooler temperatures. I am riding around the Marion rural area and into Cibolo and Schertz.
The wind was definitely brutal yesterday. I only went 13 miles. My ears were cold and I was done.
