FAREWELL? - Airbus A380 In 2024
zhlédnutí 7KPřed 4 hodinami
The Airbus A380 seemed dead and buried in 2020. However, the aircraft is now flying worldwide with airlines relying heavily on the aircraft type for their network. But, is the Airbus A380 back for the long term or is it still a short term solution for airlines ongoing difficulties in acquiring next-genertation aircraft types. FAILURE? - The Airbus A340 Poor Sales

The Airbus A340 is a quad-engined widebody, but, since its conception, struggled to attract firm interest and has seen perceived at times as a failure commercially. Today, I analyse why the A340 experienced poor sales and how its place in the industry might have not all been thanks to Airbus' faults within the market. The Boeing debacle is quite revealing of the corporate rot (i.e. dividends over safety/profits over people) which has destroyed the Boeing brand. Any airline that cares for the safety of its passengers should buy Airbus airframes until this problem is solved by either a nationalization of Boeing of a sale to a more responsible owner.

    Emirates is the airline who pushed Boeing to develop 777X in the first place. Maybe they should have ordered more A380s instead. They are doing pretty good with A380s. Or maybe they should have pushed Airbus for A350-2000 with GE engines.

    Boeing has faltered on manufacturing and certifying new jets amid oversight and close scrutiny from regulators. Therefore, it is understandable that such delivery delay would be met with sharp rebuke from a major client such as Emirates with over 100 777X in the order book.

      No questions there...however, you have to ask yourself - would Emirates buy any a350 if Boeing was able to deliver the 777x on time? I sincerely think the answer is no....and the longer this delay continues, more likely other companies will follow....

    • @jantjarks7946

      It sure makes no sense to rush a plane design. However, at one point we will have to ask if the manufacturer actually has the necessary competences in order to introduce new plane designs in the first place. With Boeing it increasingly looks like they don't. And it raises more questions.

    • @hakanevin8545
      @hakanevin8545 Před hodinou

      The issue is not rushing 777X at all. The prototype of 777X is there, already flying. The problem is Boeing is not able to assign enough engineering workforce to finalise the certification. Boeing assigned their engineers to MAX7 and MAX10 instead. Emirates' money is no less valuable than MAX customers. If I were Emirates CEO I would complain as well. And something to note, there are no American airlines waiting for 777X, but there are several for MAX7 and 10.

    I think another reason why Delta has no plans on retiring the jet compared to United is maybe based on the engine type. The RB211 which was the most popular option for the 757 is a heavy fuel burner compared to the PW2000. The RB211 is also much older since it was used since 1969, compared to the PW being introduced in 1981. According to Pratts website their engine is 6% more efficient which barely seems like anything but it’s a bigger topic today. The PW has the fuel burn ratio around the same as the CFM56 so it’s technically still not an intense fuel burner.

    the 777x, when it finally comes into service, will have almost enough capacity as the a380. the a350-1000 is the next step down in terms of passenger capacity, but is far more efficient.

      @jantjarks7946 Před dnem

      777X doesn't even have the capacity of a 747. No, there's no replacement for the 380 capacity. Even though the likelihood of a new design being introduced in many years is increasing. Those replacements would still have the risks associated with large planes, if we will ever see them.

      While the twin jets have the advantage over the A380 regarding the cost per passenger, they may not perform quite so well as a full A380 on the profit per flight. No doubt, in an ideal world they would rather run an increased schedule with the smaller and more efficient aircraft, but that needs the aircraft, the people to operate them, and the airport slots. Until all three are available there is still a future for the A380. As to whether there will ever be enough of a need to justify a replacement, that is another question altogether. I do however, wonder if we could possibly see existing A380s re-engined as they were already a generation behind when it was launched, and could be positively geriatric before any airframe reaches the end of its economic life. It would not be setting a precedent, take the DC8 for example, many were re-engined during their operational lives. Having four engines, I presume that the development would be viable for far fewer airframes than for a twin.

    All right guys here's my thoughts on this video I love the 380 it's a good plane but I think Airbus has no intention of making the Airbus A380 Neo which Tim Clark from Emirates wants but I have an alternative that's going to make all airlines by the plane and of course Airbus will make it since they're already making this plane as we speak the plane I mentioned is the Airbus a350 series and what if Airbus were to make the Airbus a350 2000 which would allow for more than 600 passengers foldable wing tips add the same comfort that the Airbus A380 had for example is Etihad airways wants to put the residents class they have on their plane it would be a very very optional and good attractive point because the Airbus a350 - 2000 can obviously allow them to put the residents and they can have the same configuration as they have on their Airbus A380 if Emirates airlines wants to put showers on their a380s it can be done right well it can also be done on Airbus a350 -2000 which I think is a very good plane and it won't take up much space like the Airbus A380 and it won't need humongous renovations plus it uses the same runway as the Airbus a350 - 1,000 so that's my take on the replacement for the Airbus A380 the Airbus a350 - 2000 will be the perfect plane for all the airlines and it will solve the capacity problem that they need without breaking the bank and without worrying about can I fill these seats so let me hear your thoughts should Airbus come out with an a350 - 2000 or is it not needed let me know your thoughts keep up the good work

    I think that Global Airlines believes that passengers traveling on a low cost airline will prefer the comfort of an A380 over most of the other types operating the route. This is especially true because customers who fly on low cost airlines have probably never experienced an A380, and this can lead to great word of mouth and repeat customers. With the media hype around the airline, mostly by the airline itself, I think it's a tactic to buy more time to ensure that the launch is flawless. I believe that the airline may enjoy initial success, but on paper it's hard to see how it will be sustainable long-term.

    @ralphsmith242 Před 4 dny

    You're missing out the most important two points. The problem with the A340 wasn't the number of engines. It was the number of tonnes. Compare the empty weight of an A340-500 to that of a 777-200LR. They carry roughly the same number of passengers over roughly the same range, and the a340 is roughly 20% heavier. That's fatal to the economics of the aircraft. This isn't because it's quad-engined, in fact a quad should be slightly lighter than a twin with the same payload and range (other things being equal) because the weight of the engines is distributed more evenly along the wing span. Secondly, the fuel consumption of the engines. In order to get subsidised loans from the UK government to develop the aircraft, Airbus had to offer Rolls Royce an exclusive deal to make the engines. So, Rolls was allowed to make engines that were far less efficient than those offered on the 777 because, on the 777, they had to compete on equal terms with GE and P&W for the business. Their A340 engine enjoyed a monopoly so they didn't have to squeeze every last ounce of fuel efficiency out of it. As Sir Tim Clarke said, once fuel topped $125 per barrel the A340 "hadn't a hope."

    At the end of the day, the A330 & A340 are just different versions of the same aircraft. A330 MRTT even uses the mounting points of the outside engines for fuel hose mountings. A330/340 program overall has been very successful

    4 engines mounted on the wing really undermine the aerodynamic as well as the thrust of the a340. This jet is the most underpowered and least efficient amongst Airbus wide-bodies and as it turned out, it was outsold by the B777- a state-of-the-art rival in the early 2000s.

    I flew this aircraft a few times with Lufthansa and SWISS, and I can sit comfortably due to its 2-4-2 configuration in Economy Class, the same as the Airbus A330.

    What really killed the A340 was the massive success of the 777. The 777-200ER had the same range as the A340-300, and the 777-300ER had the same range as the A340-600. And the 777 used significantly less fuel per passenger. Small wonder why Emirates has such a gigantic 777-300ER fleet. So much so that Airbus admitted defeat and developed the A350XWB to better compete against the 777.
