      @@serenitycoastUK Oh yes! I bought my first boat this year Hunter 23 to see how I got on. I paid for a survey and it was absolutely useless! Everyone I contacted said it would be 6 weeks until they could look at it. That was my first insight into the marine industry! Luckily we met someone down the marina who recommended a guy who has been amazing. Spent about £4,000 on all the bits that got missed by the survey. However, 24 ft is just a bit too small so I want to upgrade to a 32ft + next season. Prices are still pretty high tho compared to what you paid.

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před 9 dny

      Firstly, thank you for liking the video and taking the time to comment and welcome if you're a new subscriber. I would clean up the area and try and trace the leak. It may be a simple case that you knocked one of the pipes from the coolant tank. Maybe you could have had a minor leak previously, and you've noticed it as you've been looking around. I understand a common problem for the insignias is the header tank sometimes starts to leak on the joint where it's moulded. I ended up replacing mine (there is a video) I had done a coolant flush and sometimes it's the gunk that clogs the leaks. Perhaps you could try rad weld it's about £7 a bottle. amzn.to/4fLrNzr You pretty much poor it in leave the car running with the AC on hot and full then leave it to cool down then top up any missing coolant. There is a short on my page on how to use it.

I've done timing and drive belts, water pump , lowered suspension and so on, so I'm OK with the spanners lol just wondering if my brakes would be the same process, cheers

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před 9 dny

      Firstly, thank you for liking the video and taking the time to comment and welcome if your a new subscriber. Seems like your a handy person so if your going to attempt the break change then good luck. I found it pretty straightforward I was documenting my first time. If you have break sensors on then it looks like you just pull the wire off the pads and replace. Typically when I remove sensors I disconnect the negative battery, before unplugging sensors. I then clean the ports using contact cleaner like the wd40 electrical sprey. amzn.to/3yLEw4m For reference my car tyres are 17" and I needed the 16" disc/pads. They are sold in pairs everything with the exception of front disc. I'd recommend going to a store like Gsf or eurocar parts. I've brought stuff on ebay previously and it's been totally wrong like start motors or badges.

    • @serenitycoastUK

      I've used K&N filters on most of my cars, They are reusable and pretty much last forever as long as you clean them and reoil them, one of my latest videos is me cleaning it. They are marketed as "K&N filters offer exceptional airflow to your engine - and more airflow often translates to more efficient fuel burn" / "Performance is built into the DNA at K&N. Every product is built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. Both High-Flow™ and DryFlow® Air Filters allow for improved airflow to allow your engine to breathe easier to help make more power." I'd love to see a full video that went from a cup-of-tea to sailing, demonstrating how you single-handedly deploy the sails, then sail to a destination, then pack the sails back up and moor! That would be fascinating!

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před 11 dny

      I'm back on the boat at the moment so will be doing a few more boaty things. Another type of Vlog style as mentioned but also highlighting the joys of just boat ownership, lots of people when they're looking into boats focus on the sailing and sea worthiness of the boats. But for most of the time people enjoy their boats in the marinas, the communities, the parties the areas and the tinkering/projects. Which is a big part of it. I'm based in the UK in the Bristol channel with 2nd largest tidal range in the world so really need to be spot on with favorable weather conditions. The video will show a few bits and bobs that I need to do. The rigging wasn't done correctly when I paid for the local professional. So that will be on.

    @harrisonofthenorth Před 18 dny

    Bravo! I came from having watched your number one video, and I'd like to encourage you to keep us up to date as to how much you make on these videos. The reason for this is that there must be a notional cross-over point where income from videos makes full-time boating possible, so in one way this is a channel that is all about how to make content creation fund boating (and etcetera!). Naturally, numbers will go up and down but I'd think that the threshold must be somewhere between 30 and 50 thousand subscribers. I'd be interested in all the subsystems-for example, the day I see that you have wired Starlink Satelite Internet into your setup, I'll be overjoyed! Best wishes!

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před 11 dny

      Eventually i want to seasonal cruise using the boat to sail around in for several months of the year. Then also pick up a camper van to cover the less weather favorable months and use it as a home base for work in the UK. I do like working in events but recently jobs have been cancelled, I was also in an accident before the boat with the prognosis as im a young guy a few months ill be fine. But that wasn't the case the during lock down which was the following year I fell between the support gaps. Only one company helped which was based on the year before, however I only worked 1 day for the agency so it was £10 a month. So ill be telling my story of my original plan on how I wanted to pay the boat off within 2 years, using it as a pop up afternoon tea and air bnb a few times each month to cover marina fees. Then work at festivals and events, then cast off and keep flying back to the UK to work and back to the boat........ However it's been a bit of a rollercoaster so all shell be reveled. Thanks for leaving a comment I do try and get back to everyone. I do a lot of documenting my car fixing projects mainly to save money but to help others.

    Excellent & concise. I searched everywhere for this, lost where utterly useless. Well done with this one. I found the wiring can easily be removed before you jack the car up. Also a trick I used to access the clamp nut for power steering pipes: I braced on the wings/inner engine, a solid, narrow internal door, not resting on the engine itself and I could reach down into the rear easily. Obviously not feasible for everybody, but worked a treat for me without crawling around underneath. Remove egr first for easier access too. Just make sure it's braced and steady and clear of the engine

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před měsícem

      Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and for liking the video. From memory it was £2200-£2400. The sail was made by Hyde sails, I went with them for a few reasons. Firstly - it's the company who had made the previous sail. Secondly - I see on other boats their logo. Thirdly - The guy I was incontact with basically told me that with the inmast furling on a Z Spar mast. That he recommends going with the thinner material along with no batons. This should make it easier to go in and out of the mast as their is less volume trying to get in and out. I had spoken to 5 different sail makers and I had 5 very different answers along with a variety of prices up to £7k. Some where telling me batons hold the sail shape better and the thicker material will last longer etc. Others said do not go for batons and go middle of the road. So it was a bit of a difficult decision because they all gave very different answers.

    Good video. Did you use gasket sealant? And does it have to be high temp sealant

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před měsícem

      There was no gasket when I had removed any of the parts, The exception was a rubber o-ring at the top, this was undamaged so I just cleaned it. I also did not use any sealant and there was no evidence of sealants used. I hope this helps, thank you for leaving a comment and liking the video. Apologies it took a while to get back to you.

    That's a very cost effective DIY set up, and very useful to watch - thanks. Personally, I'd always wear disposable gloves when handling diesel, plus any spillages are often hard to clean up (the diesel smell lingers). So I'd probably contain it all in a plastic container of sorts.

      From my chef days I learnt that if you wash your hands with hot water then you end up baking the scent on to your hands, So I wash with cold soapy water which does the trick. Some jobs I wear gloves however I tend to poke holes in them pretty quickly so they tend to come off pretty quickly. Yeah can be a little messy and I am indeed a messy worker. :-)

Often it can be months until I see the boat as my main gig is working in events. So road shows, hotels and now the boat is paid for I'll fly off winter time when the weather is poor, the work is low and the cost of living is high.

      Absolutely it's amazing being out on the water, if you can jump on someone else's boat as crew amazing. Here I'm the UK we have had 2 bas summers back to back. I have some way to go yet before I cast off the lines and cruise for months at a time. But I'll sure be going some adventures soon enough. I'll most likely film them. I tend to do a mix of what I'm doing like car Fixing videos, or answering questions. I had a few people ask how I Make Money and how much I make on YT as a small content creator. I have some questions - can you sail it single handed ok? - what sailing experience did you have before you bought it? - where have you taken it so far? - how much boat maintenance experience/ expertise do you have?

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před měsícem

      Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. -I brought this boat due to being able to single hand it all lines lead to the cockpit, it's in mast furling system works well. -Sailing experience I do have a video on my experience in total I have sailed around 2500 miles. In the UK you don't need to have qualifications in Europe you need the competent crew. - My own boat I haven't taken it that far due to a mixture of health and wealth. I was in an accident just before I brought the boat. The prognosis was I'm a young guy and 3 months later I would be fine, anyway just under 3 years later I had a knee operation and had a brace put in. Also during lock down I don't want to boast here but my income was double figures.......£10 a month. So my boat ownership has been Year 1 - Accident and not being able to get around and income slashed. Year 2 - Lockdowns and pretty much no income. Year 3 - Knee Op and again no income support. Year 4 managed to get the boat paid off and trying to get it efficient as possible. I'm in year 5 and work has picked up and I'm looking to do my day skipper and do some boat projects with that, If you would like to follow the channel then you will see those project. I basically have the antifouling and everything at the ready, I just need the time now :-) Boating has been a bit on the back foot as I have been saving for a van. I get hit by the "Clean Air Zones" and since my work is not consistent I don't really finance things. Which as you can see above has worked for me very well! As for the maintenance side. There are course you can do like diesel maintenance and basic electrics. CZcams is also helpful, lots of my content recently has been fixing my car doing servicing on it and filmed in a way that someone with no knowledge can follow along. For example how to jack up a car, where exactly filters are and how to open them. I also made a fuel polishing video which has done pretty well too. I tend to make content on things I am doing, my car is held together with duck tape and hope. As mentioned I am trying to save for a van so to cut cost is helping and it's nice receiving peoples comments and answering their questions. If you are going the boat route I would head somewhere in autumn/ early winter. This will give you a real experience of what boat life is like. You will also be with someone who is experienced so if the weather isn't that great then they can guide you. I remember when shopping for a boat one description stated that they where selling because of their wives being very sea sick. So if you do have a plus 1 then remember it's not just your dream and you can't make your dream someone else's. Here at the marina it very much is a boys club, the girls come out for events and when the hard work is done and the sun and gin is out. As for if you are buying a boat things like cockpit enclosures, upholstery those type of things are expensive jobs. Take your time and make sure you have a marina available they make boats way quicker than they make marinas. For single handed 32-36ft is a good size, make sure you have standing head room. Feel free to ask anymore questions or if you want me to make a video about a certain topic.

I'm particularly interested in that side of things, as I'm considering the liveaboard life and I just want to make sure my finances are strong first... But from different sources, I don't think it would cost any more than a house to run, less infact. Anyhow, nice boat!

      @serenitycoastUK Před měsícem

      Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and liking the video. I actually did a popular video where I had broken down 4 years of owning the boat. My advice would be to make sure you have a place for the boat, along with if there are any restrictions on the boat usage. Lots of marina's do not allow people to live on their boats full time. From time to time my marina throw out emails and messages about the length of boat usage, Ironically the same people are the ones who use their boats more than me lol. My work is pretty seasonal and as a result for the last 3 months I have not been on the boat boat at all. Work has picked up which means lots of driving and hotels. I managed to pay the boat off last year and my aim is to do what I used to before the boat. That was go back packing at the start of the year for 4 months. Ditch the poor weather etc. I'm also looking to swap my car for a van for when the weather is less boat friendly. I do live in a few different places over all the UK and for months have been looking after my folks as my dad isn't well. If you are looking for a boat I would go somewhere in autumn/early winter to do a day skipper course iit's 5 days in total. Gets you use to reality of boat life trust me it's easy to fall in love with boat life when the sun and rum is out. But the reality is it's hard work maintenance is a biggie. If you are 100% looking for a boat, then I would choose one with things like a cockpit enclosure, something around 32-36ft. Check things like the upholstery engine etc as these are all expensive jobs. My boat doesn't have an enclosure and I have been quoted £5k for example. (they are the tents on the back of the boat) Feel free to ask any questions, I do like peoples comments questions and feedback. Thank you for liking and subscribing if you did.

    Just wanted to ask in twrns of the coolant, i was convinced that the vauxhall approved for these engines is the RED and only red coolant so is that Prestone one ok?

    • @serenitycoastUK
      @serenitycoastUK Před 2 měsíci

      I used the Preston one for about 5 months now. The label states "Prestone provides corrosion protection for 300,000 miles. Works in all extremes from -37°C to 129°C and is suitable for all cars and light commercial vehicles. Appropriate for adding to any other coolant/antifreeze." I wanted to use it as it's available all over plus supermarkets. So incase of a leak I can just run into Tesco. If your doing a full flush you may want 2 bottles as it goes via the heater matrix. (put the heater on full) I used one bottle and it's why it's still a bit red. I did a video changing the coolant tank as a couple months later the tank started leaking. The float sensor before the service also sometimes came up with "code 3" which is check coolant level.

    Haven't seen any videos of people testing/using these large-scale powerbanks/powerstation things or what you might want to call them until I stumbled over this one - maybe they exist out there, but I missed them, so cheers for that! :D Are these LiFePO4 cells maybe? I would strongly prefer that chemistry, because of the wear on traditional NMC cells when stored at a high state of charge, and also their relatively high self-discharge rate and limited number of charging cycles vs. LiPO cells. Higher fire hazard for NMC cells, probably not worth getting all worked up over as long as your powerstation isn't built using cheap noname surplus cells from China. :P Personally I would probably buy Anker myself, but this guy looks really robust, and powerful. Sound level tho - oof! lol OTOH, running a water kettle off of batteries, that's quite the accomplishment! :D

      My famous barista express which always gets a few eyebrow raises when I head to the marina and it's in the trolly, or at work when I'm rocking up with it at events/gigs has taken a bit of a beating. So I picked up the barista pro which works pretty good, it heats up a lot quicker than the express.....i do prefer the express though. But I'm looking at the bambino one which doesn't have the grinder on it but smaller and lighter to take around with me. I stay in hotels a lot so again I get a few looks lol. I picked up my pro on ebay, there was a refurbished one I think it was around £500 vs the instore £700-£750.
